@Lightweaver2012 Well You got to make sure you don't touch or take your new ig out of his home for atleast 4 days or so, And as far as how jumpy he is, I can tell you already you probably bought a baby. And Because they are so small, It's there insticnt to keep there guard up from predators in the wild, They neewd to be like this to survive. But once he gets more use to you and your kids, wich i advise you be VERY cautious while letting the children hold him.

@Lightweaver2012 OH! and iggys are also known to be very shy eaters to, especially when they are young. My iguana is just a baby, probably about 9, maybe ten months now, And it's fiunny to watch him eat out of the corner of his eye, then the seocnd you turn your head he will stop because he watches us to make sure we don't look at him, especially when he goes to the bathroom. :P lol Proper heat will help him relax, and be SURE! to have a little hide away box where where he can go to be alone

man acts the same way. hes friendly and curious, when i let him out in my fake tree he stays there for like an hour. i got one that was less dominant at the pet store so he wouldnt be so aggressive and territorial and he's been nice ever since i saved him from the other iguana kicking his ass

You have to tame them. This requires a lot of patience and you will most likely end up with some scratches and have to endure some tail whips along the way. Don't give up! Start slow- iguanas are wild animals so they think you want to eat them! scary, right? So your job in the first 6months-year is to convince them you are their friend and can be trusted! There are many resources for taming an iguana including my blog as well as 'green iguana society'! Best of luck, don't give up!

They often come with mites if you buy it from a pet store. They can also get mites from being outside or bringing in tree branches from outside without disinfecting/cleaning them properly. You should always bring a new iguana to the vet for a fecal and parasite check as the majority do come with them.

you really shouldnt be keeping him outside the tank, not to be mean or so, but his terrarium do after all have the right heat and moisture, your home is too cold, and the air is too dry for an iguana, i mean they naturally come from central and south america where it is warm and moist. too dry air can cause kidneyproblems for iguanas, they are lizards after all, not cats ^^

Bonding is an important part of owning an iguana. Hanging out with an iguana in room temperature will not give it kidney problems as long as the majority of their basking time is spent in the right temps with proper uvb and humidity. no worries here!
