It is true for eating at the table. My host family thought I was texting or something when I'd put my hand in my lap. It's weird how a little thing like that can end up being a big culture shock lol
To clarify that last tip about stopping by the light, I found that when the lights are at the front of the intersection only (whereas in the US they are at the back of the intersection), it makes it hard to see the lights if you stop too close to the intersection, due to the more extreme angle. (Many intersections appear to have the lights in the back added.)
I am french and I can perfectly understand her ^^ But I hate her accent, so "french", and we don't ... We try very hard to avoid this accent but it is very difficult for us, but English people say that our accent is cute !
Well it's clear you've taken offense to what I said, and for that I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend, I was simply curious. Perhaps it was a silly question.
that's actually pretty interesting. Not to brag, but I've been told my french accent is very close to how it should be, but most of the native french people i speak with have a noticeable accent. Maybe english has many sounds that's difficult for a non-native french speaker to learn?
she's very annoying...but don't pay attention to her weird hand gestures and faces, French is beautiful!
do any of you native English speakers actually understand what she's saying?
I had to pay close attention to get every word right..
as for the driving, things are quite different in the UE. and be careful! driving in large city (and using the roundabouts) can be tricky and dangerous. use public transportation!
the ice cubes thing.. she's right, they fill your glass with drink, not with ice!
@divacat80 My teacher tells me all of these things because she lived in france for a while.. I hear it is beautiful, I wish to live there as well. I could tell what she was saying without the subtitles, it was a bit difficult because of her accent, though.
@gaarachicreturns I am curious about traveling to France. People are always telling me it's so gorgeous and I truly want to find out why they say it is..!
@divacat80 I understood her perfectly. An English native speaker would not have any problems understanding her English. However, I have a difficult time understanding English speakers when they speak French, so maybe that's what your situation is here (you are francophone?)
I don't really agree with dogstyle76, what she says is mainly true. Although my parents never taught me to put both hands on the table, when going to dinner at some other families this was important. It's like in every country, depending on the cultural background and the way you're educated...
She's right about the ice cubes!
I think it's important to discover the country and culture as well when you learn a language, this is part of it!
She says anything ! French are not like that you need not to believe it ! I am French and I drink soda I puts not forcing hands on the table she's crazy in any cases do not especially listen to her !!!!!!!!
Don't put my hands on my lap? My goodness, I was nagged at, especially by my former stepmother to have at least one hand in my lap at the table, and scolded that it was rude to have both hands on the table. I remember when I went on a field trip in 4th grade to a Japanese restaurant and I didn't know how to properly drink the broth from the soup bowl after I'd eaten the contents with a chopstick because I didn't know it was acceptable to drink it out of the bowl.
haahhha i didnt get a word. i was expectin to learn sumthin. but i jus ended up confused and my eardrums hurt (cos i had to strain my ears to understand the MADAME from tht expert village).
" Bonjour", my name is Stephanie and with expert village. And today we will be learning french ...
She's talking about the opening of the post office, she says that in France it opens generally at 9 am from 12 if you are in a little town, then it re opens at 2pm to close at 5pm.
That is true for every businesses ; movies ; buses ; planes ... But I don't understand why she says that ...
" In France we are first giving the day , then the month and finally the year. So, for example
actually it's "don't try to COME over here". and there are educated people everywhere in this world. i love europe but there are some rude rednecks over there too, you gotta admit.

Just curious, why is it very few French people can speak English with a good , coherent accent?
yaoiyaoiyaoi123 2 years ago
What is a coherent accent ? Have you a coherent accent yourself ?
delamotteh 2 years ago
A coherent accent when speaking English you mean? Yes, very much so.
yaoiyaoiyaoi123 2 years ago
I suppose you have a " coherent accent" in a foreign langage, which one ?

@yaoiyaoiyaoi123 Because English sounds are too much different from French ones, and pretty hard to pronounce well without a lot of practice.

... 4 example, if today is June the 21st to 2006, it will be in France 21\06\06, don't forget to flip flop the month and the day.
Also, if you are introducing someone, you say, " This is Mrs blablabla ... " in France you never use the lastname.
I'm sorry if it is not clear but I don't understand everything :s:s
