Wish most "coaches" (what a joke) would teach stuff like this instead of just telling their players to skate monkey drills and giving no proper instruction.
I’m new to skating and hockey myself, so I am definitely what you’d call an “untrained eye” and thus you should take what I say with a grain of salt. But it seems to me that most NHL players skate equally well, i.e. in terms of ability to balance, turn, stop, maneuver, etc.
Where Ovechkin is a bit different, in my opinion, is with regard to his speed. His feet move very quickly - he takes lots of quick steps and builds up speed very rapidly.

Anybody could've beaten the Senators, Elliot isn't that great and they didn't have any players score over 25 goals. Hell, in the two playoff series Crosby played, he got 13 points. @91hockeyplaya being clutche in the playoff is what makes a player good, not regular season stats. Corsby got a much better vision than crosby, hes a more complete player and every coach in the nhl would take him before ovechkin, well every coach who wants to win. who cares he gets 70 goals in a season, the way he played vs mtl is what ppl will remind of him

Ovie's skating is explosive but it's choppy and sloppy. That's the reason why he didn't do shit in the speed skating contest. People who don't understand power skating will be dazzled by his explosiveness and will discount his technique.
The reason why he owns people on the ice is because of that amazing athletic ability of his, it's second to none.

If you actually watch his games, you'll notice that he doesn't take the puck from his end and skate all the way pass the blue line to make a play (usually take a shot) like he used to.
That said, his overall game is leaps and bounds better than when he was about 25 lbs lighter.
that kinda stuff you can teach just practice everyday non stop you might be tired but you don't get to be better then ovechkin just by sitting there and doing nothing
He pushes of the other leg alot,and he has really quick feet , he,also leans alot more than other players aswell
