Somehow the way he speak remind me of Bruce Lee, very nice low tone, and i didn't realized that he could speak english fluently. Way to go man, always support Artist like this in HK
great interview, very natural and organic.. we all are so proud of khalil fong, great to have such as a highly talented chinese singer. he is the best role model for all other non-prof hk singers who only focus on image instead of singing technique.
i dont think his forte is singing technique, a lot of the singers who focus on image can also sing, but his innovative talent is so crazy, it's not something you can focus on
i love that smile in the beginnig... it's so nerd, but still Khalil looks like you could just kiss him ;P "I will go as long as it takes for love" <- will he come to Poland?! ;)
he's a breath of fresh air in the music scene in hong kong. we need more of artists like khalil, none of that completely commercialized, dancing-can't-sing-don't-write-their-own-songs, gay neon sign fans who get paid to raise attention for the artist. respect to khalil fong.
so i knew he was born, as well as grew up in hawaii, and i saw on wiki that he speaks like all these diff languages such as canto, shanghainese, mandarin, and even hawaiian pidgin english, but does anyone know why he chose to sing in mandarin? i mean, he could move back to the states and choose to sing in english for one, but i'm guessing he wants to do the chinese industry proud, and the music industry in hong kong is more cantopop and like..embarassing wannabe hip hop haha
Asian Men can't be famous in America. Their image is so tarnished that they can only obtain fame by filling in particular niches. Singer/Musician is not one of them.
yeah i agree, and i think one of the reasons is that tho he's born in hawaii he moved to shanghai and lived there quite a while so i guess he's comfortable singing in mandarin. also tho he might be best at english i think mandarin is better for him to communicate with his target audience ie asians.. :)
I heard from an interview, he said that if sing R&B in cantonese would be quite weird coz there will be some slank or intonation or whatever (he did explain but i don't really understand), so he chose to sing in mandarin even though he is in hong kong which is more cantopop.
only when he was really young then his parents moved to Shanghai could they didn't want him to be just another ABC who didn't know much about Chinese culture or the language. After that they move to HK and have lived there ever since.
I feel the same!! I personally think it's because Lee Hom, no offence to his fans, is that he try too hard to sound like an ABC, although he really is one. Khalil is less ke yi, thus his English sounds, to me, more natural & naturally flowing, like water. This is just my personal opinion.

you can tell he started off with US accent. but now he has stayed in hk for so long, the local accent has influenced his accent abit.
