The criminals already have the guns, now the law abiding citizens can use them to protect themselves against these criminals. Its not complicated at all, even during the ban, gun violence was out of control is some neighborhoods.
I feel really sorry for the city of Chicago and other large cities after this horrendous ruling. This man was USED! The majority of folks getting handguns will not be 76 year old men like him. What we're going to see is a serious increase in the number of DV injuries and deaths and criminal activity. This is so sad.
@ninelivesent So you're saying I have to be a 76 yr.old individual, continually under threat of having my home broken into before I can enjoy the right TO CHOOSE to own a firearm to protect myself and my home under the second amendment of the the United States Constitution? The only thing more gun control laws do is ensure that the only people who have guns are criminals. Remember, criminals don't follow laws...Law abiding citizens do!
@ninelivesent -You should be sad that alot of cities in America have people violent enough to use the guns, but this is never addressed. Gun ownership is a Constitutional right, and this right is what ensures that government will never control a people. If you don't trust citizens with guns, then why would you trust a government with them?
Yeah Mayor Daley and his father have run chicago into the ground ever since they took over. They are the closest thing to a hereditary monarchy in this country, and the results have been just as bad for Chicago as they were for pre enlightenment Europe.
Basically, if Mayor Daley is this strongly against it, you can be pretty sure it would be good for Chicago, but adversely affect his ability to dominate his serfs.
One up on the "unbiased" reporting by the way... note heavy sarcasm.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but In Illinois all residents must have a background check done by the Illinois State Police to obtain an FOID card, if they want to obtain a gun or ammunition of any kind. You cannot carry concealed out in public, period, unless you're an active or retired peace officer or otherwise licensed to carry for work (security. etc.) These two laws have it pretty well sewn up to prevent the bad guys from having guns. That should be good enough. Repeal the Chicago ban IMO.
What is your point? It should be your right to conceal carry whether you are in law enforcement or a law abiding citizen... that is what the Second Amendment is for... to guaranteed to your right to bear arms for self preservation. The city of Chicago as well as a handful of other states in America are in complete violation of this. Also... how does one who legally obtains a concealed firearm relate to bad guys having guns?
What I'm saying here Jake, is Illinois already has some of the most restrictive gun laws, even without the Chicago gun ban. Mayor Daley is trying to mislead the public that if the Chicago ban is lifted, all the bad guys will be able to get guns, but that won't be the case since the last time I looked, Chi Town was in Illinois. After we win this, we'll work on the rest of Illinois. There is a CCW bill in the House right now, but it has slim chances I.m told.
Sorry dortmundpls, my bad. I'm just disgusted by the way these city leaders try to mislead the public and then the public at large seems to be gullible enough to buy it all the time. How can anyone believe that when you let the honest citizens have a chance to protect themselves with firearms, that the bad guys automatically benefit from it. Its like contradicting common sense.
Me too about being disgusted my friend. I believe we'll see the Chicago ban lifted, which is a good thing, so there's hope Illinois will perhaps fall in line will the rest of the Country.
So because Otis doesn't bring any data to the table (who even knows since the video is edited, oh I'm sorry, that means cut up and reassembled with some parts taken out) that means that the 2nd amendment is null and void. Hey, why should grandpa be able to shoot back, wow what a unrealistic idea
Like usual, the person speaking in favor of the gun ban doesn't bring any data to the table, or even an argument. They just take a pathetic exaggeration and run with it trying to scare unthinking fools.
this not right saying you cant have a gun in your own home right to bear arm,s

What I find Ironic with what Daily said is that the 'Wild Wild West' was much safer than 'Modern Chicago.'

@Madmann135 Yep. My thoughts exactly. Lets see. 41 people shot in 50 hours? I say Chicago has surpassed the wild wild west wouldn't you?

Murdock v. Pennsylvania:
no state can convert a right into a privilege and issue a license and a fee for it.
Shuttlesworth v. Birmingham:
If any state converts a secured right or liberty into a privilege, the citizen can engage in that right with impunity.
American Jurisprudence is your friend :)
