@ICanSellYou No kiddin'.. Triumph, Zebra, April Wine, Shooting Star, Missouri, The Outlaws, Sammy Hagar (early '77 to mid '79 stuff), Def Leppard (& these guys were 17-19 yo when On Through The Night was released my Jr. yr. -early '80, and their 1st album never made it to the U.S. -6 songs from '79), Thin Lizzy and a host of other 'guitar' bands. These are the groups who write, record & play what "they" want, so the Record Exec.'s pass 'em up thinking that they'll come runnin' back with an "OK".
I remember seeing them in the Glasgow Apollo (demolised now) in the early 80's one of the best stage show at the time. Better than rush and even Kiss with their revolving stage.
This was the tune I listened to the most from Triumph with "Ordinary Man" a close second. It just dont get any better than this one. I respect Rush and always will but Rik and Triumph should not have lived in their shadow his/their entire career. I think doing split vocal duty with Gil Moore was a bad choice. I always felt Rik's stuff and the direction he wanted Triumph to go was the best.
also had a cassette of this album.got me thur a lot of party nites.still can't believe it's been over 30 years and here i am jammin to it like it's the first time.it's called stayin power.
One of those albums like UFO Obsession, bought it for Cherry, cause of the radio. Bought this for Lay it. also cause of the radio , Both albums in just about the same period late 70's, both albums also turned out to be hittin the Jackpot, side1 & side 2 no skipping ! I miss that so much, everything musically was new & an adventure. Put the pennies together head to Musicland, race home on my bike & throw it on, ok... a little pot was involved. ok.. a lot of pot was involved !
As a young kid growing up in the west of Scotland we only had one decent source of rock music back in the day, Tom Russels rock show !! thanks Tom for introducing bands Like Triumph to us when everyone else seemed lost in bland and shitty pop music.
One of the greatest bands of all time. i never get tired of listening to this. if i had my way these guys would be in the rock and roll hall of fame, but we all know how that works! well there in my rock and roll hall of fame.
The lyric to this song tells the story of how musicians are treated by the executives in the music industry. Very telling given that this song is from 1978.
@rtypepe I truly feel there were some executives in the music industry that had a problem with Triumph due to their lyrics. This is one of the reasons that Triumph's American presence was never pushed like some of the other Canadian bands.
I just love this song... I loved it from the first time my friend put it in the old tape player... the music put me in a trance and the words seem to ring true of the games of being in the music business! Triumph should have done much better for they had the sound and the talent. One of my favorite songs ever!

Probably one of the very best tracks, by one of the greatest 'unknown' bands of all time.
Rik Emmett is just awesome. Both as a singer and guitarist.
Briliant!
