  • You can cut balusters at shop if you are a pro remodeler. We realize that pros will be able to take shortcuts but this system is so simple and easy that homeowners who are only slightly handy can install these. Your method of taking off the rail will be more expensive and if it is over the post with fittings involved is beyond the expertise of homeowners and some remodelers. Cutting the balusters on a rented portable bandsaw ( available at most tool rental stores for about $25) is easy.

  • Nice job, but it takes a lot of time to do that, its better to cut all the balusters at the shop with a band saw, remove the handrail, the wood balusters and install the new ones, i always do this job and it takes me 2 hours for a job like this one.

  • I personally like the wood better... your mileage may vary. But, it's a neat system for sure!

  • Cut the balusters with a band saw??? Really? A portable band saw?

  • @hotapplepie2009 Why not?

  • @jeffpicks Yah I guess.... Never seen it done that way, I would use a chop saw with a metal disc - $100 What does one of those things cost? Anyways, nice job on the stairs!
