Just seeing situations like this makes me want to start up my own Cop Watch. I still need to gather my legal rights for doing this action. I need to have solid ground to stand on so a cop can't do anything to me for recording them. There should be more people like this, up to the point of having organized group coverage. In NJ, NY, and PA there is plenty of a cops misuse of power and they all get off. I would like to know who to contact if this would be possible.
As a professional news photographer I've got to tell you novice camera people that you need to give the officers room to do their job....when they say step back you need to do it...for one thing you are endangering their lives along with yours...some of you young kids just don't know the dangers of distracting a cop from doing their job and securing the area ...you can shoot from across the street just like we do.

We as a society pass to Police officers immense power on our behalf to uphold the common law, In some cases literally the power of life and death, I have always supported those who wish to scrutinize and hold to the highest accountability the Police and their actions, I don't see this as being anti-police at all, I see it as being a good citizen, a run in with a bad cop can forever tarnish a citizens relationship with the authorities, that is why they must be weeded out.

Most people do realize cops are human, but they also hold cops to a higher standard due to the powers given to them by the state.
They must learn that citizens have rights and those rights should be respected, not trampled on. We pay their paychecks so they can protect, not oppress, us. And we, the people, sould closely regulate them and make sure they aren't out of line; and to protect other citizens if our local police harass us in any physical or phyicological way.
I neither side with criminal-smpathiers nor cop lovers. But I believe in equal justice. Cops need to know that they aren't above the law and our tax dollars pays for their checks and that they can't do whatever they want. They need to be regulated, otherwise they'll behave the way Blackwater mercenaries do. If they did something wrong, they must be held accountable and prosecuted to the highest of the law, not the victim.

It took two hours for them to get to my street when my neighbor's 3 year old son was hit by a drunk driver in front of my house. There's a police station 6 blocks up the street. Just seeing situations like this makes me want to start up my own Cop Watch. I still need to gather my legal rights for doing this action. I need to have solid ground to stand on so a cop can't do anything to me for recording them. There should be more people like this, up to the point of having organized group coverage. In NJ, NY, and PA there is plenty of a cops misuse of power and they all get off. I would like to know who to contact if this would be possible.

As a professional news photographer I've got to tell you novice camera people that you need to give the officers room to do their job....when they say step back you need to do it...for one thing you are endangering their lives along with yours...some of you young kids just don't know the dangers of distracting a cop from doing their job and securing the area ...you can shoot from across the street just like we do.

This documentary smudges the lines on what really goes on here..anybody can "edit" to make somebody look like a bad guy...true there are di*k head cops but the last 2 minutes show you guys as vigilantes calling the cops names and threatening them while doing their job.... Be more courteous to them and they will return the favor cause there are good cops too.....I watched the full 50min. video on google. Now then, I never said they had the authority to arrest, however they do know the phone number to the local police department. But when a member of cop watch breaks the law, they simply ignore it. True, they are public servants. But what no one realizes is that the same public that they serve has tied their hands. I.E. "we want you to go out and catch these murderers and if they try to kill you..try not to hurt them..be nice and gentile while you arrest them" if you want these people to do society's dirty work...let them do it right and stop telling them how to do their jobs from the sidelines.

But there is a limit on the brutality, hardly any of the people I saw in this video opposed any threat to any peace servant, the fact remains true police are needed but they need to know their boundaries and know that we are watching them...

COP WATCH? gimme a break, yeah police brutality does happen, but it's not that widespread as you make it sound. 90% of these videos all you see is the Police apprehending a suspect, but nothing leading up to that point. Why are they under arrest? What did they do? none of that on tape. Most of the time they deserve whats coming.

However, your good treatment by the LAPD does not discredit other people's bad treatment by the same. It doesn't take a riot to get your ass beat by police. Sometimes it's just a closed door on an interrogation room, getting pulled over on a back road or, yes I said it...BROWN SKIN.

I take care of myself because the police in my city have proved that they're there to serve the rich. It took two hours for them to get to my street when my neighbor's 3 year old son was hit by a drunk driver in front of my house. There's a police station 6 blocks up the street. They don't give a shit. If you care about your community & you're trying to make a difference then more power to you. Unfortunately, you're representing an extreme minority.

This is when I can tell that you haven't really heard a word I'm saying. I never said ALL COPS are bad, which is what you keep arguing against. I told you I have reasons for not involving the police in my business ANYMORE. This accident is one of the reasons. His mother made the mistake of calling the cops & they never followed through. It would have been faster to chase the driver down on foot than waiting for them to show up.

I understand that many people rely on you for help, but not everybody does. You really can't keep using the "one day you'll need us" argument. I've learned from experience never to rely on the police for anything. I don't call them & I don't know anyone who does. You're not carrying my weight around so you really can't resent me either.

I know how hard it is to fight an institution that's designed to protect it's own & fuck whoever they choose as a scape-goat. Like I said before, decency and honesty is by no means an absolute in law-enforcement. It's true, I haven't seen anything particularly sexist in your comments, some have been a little racist. Be that as it may, saying you're going to shove a baton up someone's ass is a threat of bodily harm which in many states is an assault 4 charge, often a gross misdemeanor. Those can carry heavy penalties, if not jail time. It's nice to know that those enforcing the law in NY have no familiarity with it.

That threat is not valid unless the subject, at the time of the threat, is able to carry it out. There is no way that he is able to shove a baton up someones ass over the Internet, so he didn't assault anyone.

I don't know where you got that idea because it's completely untrue. You can threaten someone over the phone from across the country & if it is reported, you can be charged w/ assault or harassment. Threats & verbal battery are assault. Not a high level, which is why i specified assault 4, but assault nonetheless. Any law enforcement *professional* would know this.

The highest assault in Missouri is assault in the 3rd degree, so if you were threatened by a person in Missouri and you're in Texas, the so called crime was committed in Missouri. EXPECT assault 3rd does not apply in Missouri (RSMO 565.070) if there is no way possible to carry out the threat. There is no way for him to shove his baton up your ass from a few states away.

True enough, assault 4 does not apply in every state. But, in Washington it does. Obviously I can't go through 50 states worth of laws and tell you what you can do where, that would take way too much time & it's not worth the effort. I do know for a fact however that you do not have to touch someone to be charged with assault or harassment. I did specify harassment as well, so I'm not sure why you're focused on bodily harm.
