Very true. It would be a shame to bestow any award on ILAYARAJA ..after all these years. Nobody can hold a candle to the music maestro not even a r rehman. tell me how many of you would like to listen to a chikku bukku or a jai ho when all you need is a soothing soul touching song. agreed there have been many gana songs..but even those are green ..memorable ones..

As Padma Shri kamalhassan said in jaya tv illayaraja's concert prog he should have got even more fame and popularity throughtout india and above !

Since he never made most Hindi movies he is still not recognised by people in north and rest of India as ..... A R Rehman !!!

illayaraja deserves a CIVILIAN Award 'Padma Bhushan', 'Padma Shri' right from mid 80's but still he hasn't got the attention from Govt of India!!!

Friend, I understand your pain. But, don't you think it will be a shame if he is bestowed with a "Padma Shri" or "Padma Bhushan" now after 34 years in the industry, nearly 1000 movies and innumerable achievements? Especially considering that people like Vivek and Akshay have already got a "Padma Shri". I think even a "Bharat Ratna" would not be sufficient to honor this legend, the greatest musician of our times. If they confer the title to him, it will only be an honor for the award.
