you're incredible. I use the Blender3D and i was searching for a lowpoly modeling tutorial for game characters. Your video is the best what i found. Very good tutorial. I want to be good like you. ;D
i love the video but i really needed to know how 2 insert the three images you are using for front view side view and top view ,although i bet you hate newbie questions like these
You need to learn to rotate your edge loops to follow the muscle flow and contours of the body. It reduces the number of polygons you need in some places, and makes the mesh deform way better when it comes to rigging. Right now the model suffers from the grid-polygon style. Sure it looks good, but one look at the edge loops and any seasoned modeller would tell you the same.
well before and after making that video i read about edge loops a thousand times, and nowadays i get slightly better results, but in general i'dont think i'll ever be very good at modeling humans or animals. For the hips i now tend to use the topology of half of a donut. I wish i could change the video and tell people to remember to go read about edge loops. When i began modeling, before youtube, i was searching right and left for any 3d modeling video. so i made one, as imperfect as it it :)
hey , freaking great tuts for beginners(like me )..but i have a problem..my move tool does not show the arows(red, green, blue ones)it only shows the black one.. which is annoying because it keeps moving my polygons the other way..any help?
the free program daz studio at daz3d..com has a few free figures you can pose, render and use as references. some of the free characters are at download..com by searching for the word daz. you could even load the OBJ of those characters in your modeling program, it's in a T-pose by default. other free figures are in the daz3d store. For anatomy images and reference photos there's fineart..sk --- note that i used two dots .. in the links i gave you since youtube blocks me from posting real URLs
I really like what you did with this. If you do another one of these, maybe you can explain the process. Other than that, you really did a great job on this and the video.
When I do low poly I usually try to make each edge loop do as much as possible by rotating them up/down/left/right. Youll just get more detail with less detail
Maya's 5 grand my friend tole me i have shade8 Milkshape3d Poser7 and animationMaster but it dosent work on my account :l and the free stuff i have is Wings3d,DazStudio, and Bryce im glad to see a female meshing tut mostly clothing tuts are for men Grr do you think you can make a clothing video?
as you see her in the last picture of the video she's 558 polygons (all quads) i was just showing how i do it, it's probably better to do it like schools and books do it
My bad, Its good at 558 polys. My teachers were stressing edgeloops, that why i thought it was inefficient. But a low-poly doesn't need edgeloops, at least not that low poly. Thanks though:D
later on i added a head and arms and hands and she was 2352 - maybe it's not low-polygon as in games, but compared to models with 60000 polygons it's lighter
thanks, its a conversion into a subd. a smooth shape from a tough polygon "cage" it can be rendered like that. there's also the possibility to convert the subd into nurbs patches or into polygons.
usually what i do is work the low-poly cage, convert it to subd to see the result, then convert back to poly.
Doesn't look very lowpoly.

in Maya you do:
Panels/Orthographic/Front
then
View/Image Plane/Import image
if you google for
v3saephotos.zip
you can get the reference images

There is also Fibermesh and ShapeShop (both free) that might give a more "organic" look to the model :)
