Wow, I am surprised that so clever man like Cody waisting energy to do snow cave modern way(make a heap of snow and then dig a hole inside :) Hey clever man and watch my idea : Break some branches from spruce. make tripod, branches over tripod to make dome shaped emty space.. and now cover this with thick layer of snow..downside up like in case of debris shelter. villow or hassel works great for this. @mailmanx141 your wrong, Ancient humans started in africa, where fruit and vegs were abundant, they knew how to extract seeds and plant them, the circle of life, when the enviorment changed thousands of years later, they set off for new land, and some lands are not as fruitful as other's. the first humans didnt NEED to eat meat, but if youre land turns desolate then what else are you gonna do. if you believe in god, you believe adam and eve were given seeds and the no how to plant them.
@colbicolbiWTF A.) You're wrong. Some ancient humans started in what is NOW Africa, but back then was very much different. Others started in other areas.
B.) Learn the difference between your and you're. Ancient humans could figure it out, why can't you?
@mailmanx141 keep in mind, this is america, not africa, it took thousands and thousands ( aprov 150 thousand years ) for humans to travel and evolve skin/feature wise. ( look at aboriginal austrailians, their black. cause africa and austrailia were once connected, white men came to that land on big boats. ) Know your roots brother.
@colbicolbiWTF so... that means even with my pallid white skin and evil blonde hair, my roots are actually BLACK? COOL! just messin wit ya! i see your point. actually i'm something of a mutt. no purebread. years ago a nutri-hag began hammering me for eating meat. if she hadn't been screaming at me, i might have considered her opinion valid. thanks to my wife, i am eating more vegatables. thanks for the reply though. more welcome.
@mailmanx141 Skin colour evolves depending on the UV of the environment which enables you to get the right amount of vitamin D and disinfection of blood through the skin. One place this becomes apparent is the Inuit who live in low-UV but have dark skin because supplements from their high fat diet.
@colbicolbiWTF Aboriginal Australia's migrated through the Indonesian arpeggio fairly late in the piece. The continents weren't joined. They are different to the west-east migrations to America because it's harder to cross climates north to south. There were several failed migrations including Homo floresiensis who almost made it as far as Australia. There were also a group of people who made it here 20k years before the Aboriginals, who claim no knowledge or link with their cave paintings.
@CanadianLPer No You'd probably want to Put some Rocks in there that you had in the Fire. If you can Find any Rocks. But I think that Shelter would Keep you warm Enough. Especially with 2 people in them.
@CanadianLPer For those who have never slept in a snow shelter, it seems impossible, but yes, as str8out said, it's been done in very harsh climates for millenia, and I agree with MrTrevor117 that a fire is not necessary. Close off the entry hole from the WIND, punch a couple breathing holes, put in a pile of reindeer skins and invite a "close friend" to spend the night with you, and it's surprisingly cozy
I refuse to believe he is wearing pants. I'm in the process of convincing myself that they photoshopped the pants on. Yes, that must be it. I'm not crazy XD
@MrHorrorFan No way--- as you are shoveling the snow into a pile, stomp on it a little, pack it, then let it sit a half hour or so before excavating. Snow, as it falls, is pretty ephemeral, but if you disturb it by shoveling, snowplowing, or wind-drift, the crystals compact and interlock. I have a photo of one of the Boy Scout outings with about ten boys sitting on top of their shelter
Oh hey look we just happened to build our shelter next to an unfrozen river, perfect I was thirsty. Hmm kinda hungry now, hey look at that a freshly dead mule deer that died so recently that it isn't even frozen.......t.v. magic for sure.
most americans couldnt survive there now.. theyve been too busy sucking on the tit of government, and worrying about their jobs and who won the ballgame
LOL! This ridiculous battle between shoes or no shoes, barefoot or not barefoot, it's laughable man, HA!
Shoes are tools guys! Like an umbrella; you pull it out and open it when natural conditions will no longer keep you dry; no reason to use it all the time. With shoes, (or foot protection in general) well you put those on when natural conditions will no longer allow you to do your thing barefooted, simple concept really... NOBODY should go either all-barefoot or all-shoes, ever, PERIOD.
@theanvilcracks Agreed, with Cody attempting to explore his own cellular structure he understands that shoes are tools that are tailored for some environments and not others. It doesnt need to be a huge subject and Cody is a pretty special case
@theanvilcracks EXACTLY!!! People are so judgemental and just DOn't get what some one else is doing if it differs from the norm. Thank you for stating it so well!!!
@iwalkedinawall when will you all accept fact that he's wearing shoes only where is really cold even his feet could not stand that. Ok, you didnt say that, it was more like a joke, got it.
@smokkapi well, dude, he's not that stupid like you are, keep in mind where he is at in this video. you'd be totally fucked if went out in Alaska with no shoes on LOL
@smokkapi dude, do you even follow your own speech? now take your time and read carefully all your comments. first, you say he's busted, cause wearing shoes, then - that he should wear shoes in this environment. So why do you say he's busted if you then admit that he should wear shoes in cold? Where's the logic?
@smokkapi draw it. what's wrong with that what he said? Can you count properly? He's walking barefoot since around 1988-89 cause now or recently he says it's more than 20 years barefoot, in 2006 it definitely is about 15-16 years since 1988. WHAT THE FUCK DUDE? how's your math? why you say busted? ok, explain it to me, I really don't understand your way of perception of time line.
@smokkapi goddamn it you are really stupid, now go to Alaska BAREFOOT and after that try calling Cody a liar. what the fuck is wrong with you? can you go out in that cold barefoot? Huh? Can you? you're just a fucking armchair elitist who sits in the warm room and only shit about people ''oooh, look, he lied, to us, he told he doesn't wear shoes". you fucking moron. i do understand everything ... you have been skullfucked.
You are the stupid one, getting all hyped up about my comment.
I don't give a fuck about Alaska, I live in Norway so it's cold enough for me.
but thank you very much for the information, I didn't know that it's cold there and that it is wise to wear shoes. You must be really smart to know all this! skullfucked? sounds like something my little brother would say, that's a really inspiring vocabulary you have. go play with your vagina you little trolling one you
Here's good one, we do joke a lot about Estonians that they are slow in thinking and understanding, cause live more to the north than we, seems like you live too far to the north LOL. I know, you will laugh about this joke only in ... june or july ....next year.
@smokkapi yes, the point is I want to see you walking barefoot in cold, cause you probably think you can do that. Norway, ok, it's cold there also. Go on, go out when it's about -20C, seems like that cold could be in this particular video. do you know such word as "generally", in this case Cody is "generally" or *most of the time* walking barefoot, except for some other reasons like cold or places he's not allowed to go barefoot. so he is NOT to be called liar.
@smokkapi i will quote Cody on this "If the person is stupid enough to walk barefoot in this cold environment.. that's called gene pool at work... and... better that they don't breed". Thank you.
Just some FYI people: Cody does NOT have a "no shoes EVER" rule.
He does wear flipflops in places that he must have shoes on for like some stores, markets, costco. . . Also he will put on those flipflops when he is in Phoenix and the ground temps are hot enough to cook on. Next in the snow, he usually uses 3 pairs of wool socks unless the film crew asks him to uses mukluks.
He does go with out shoes most of the time, he knows his personal limits
@jscanyon He CLEARLY said on his show that he has not worn shoes in over 20 years, and he wears sandles maybe once a year if need be. Sandals are not shoes.
@shadows124 There are no "Cody Rules", Jeeze! He Chooses to wear shorts as much as he can. If the weather is to harsh he will do what he needs to do to protect his body. What is the deal with people freaking out over Cody having pants on, or flip-flops.... He is a human, he will do what he needs to do to protect his body, end of story. People need to look past Cody's external image and HEAR the invaluable information he is trying to relay. He has much to teach everyone/anyone.
@shadows124 Dude, that means He doesn't have a NO Shoe Rule.... Wow. Sometimes we both wish he hadn't taken this job with DS. People only see his feet and don't hear what he is teaching..... he and I get stuck responding to 1000's of questions about shoes, shorts, on DS he ate this or that- why, instead of the important things he is teaching. If you really want to know more about Cody's reasons for shoes or shorts go to his web page's Q&A, or read 98.6.
@shadows124 From Codylundindotcom "Acclimatization: Simply meaning, when it grows colder outside, try wearing less clothing. The seasons don't turn from summer to winter at once. Nature offers you a choice to acclimate in her gradual change of seasons. DON"T be a Dumbass and go with too little clothing into the wilderness" -Cody Lundin
@RcUniverseGuy Huh, What last video? I've known him for 13 yrs. He is an awesome guy! A total crack up to work out with or hang out with. Go to his Fan Page on Facebook If you want to know more or to his website, codylundin (dot) com. You'll figure out who JS is.
@jscanyon heat can be tough, few steps on metal with a 40degC day can be done, much more will actually cook your feet and you'll feel the cooked tissue under-foot for 3+ days.
@neuroleptika Not fake...just planned. They put the dear there in advance. This vid made surviving look too easy. The chances of anyone finding a dead animal on their first week...let alone their first night are slim to none. In that environment, if you don't know how to set traps, you are basically dead....unless you have a bow and arrows of course.
@kryptiea i think we all thought the same thing. I still think Cody is great, but ill reference this video next time the dual survivor narrator says "Cody has not worn shoes in 20 years"
In my opinion Cody lundin in the greatest survival expert ever he has so much knowledge and he lives what he does his house in presscott arizona is so beautiful not only now is he a huge celebrity now he is a teacher at yavapai college in presscott arizona and you can take his courses ill be taking one soon and I got to meet him 2 weeks ago one of the nicest people you will ever meet he doesnt wear shoes because when our soldiers were taken as prisoners of war they took their shoes
@JeffTheDude777 - really, are you a survival expert or an anthropologist? How many ancient men have you met? Cody, besides being entertaining and extremely talented, is a primitive survival expert. I found nothing 'annoying' or illogical about this video. You could have hit the stop button at any time. :-)

Awesome idea for a show, but the ancient cultures are one of the best kept secrets due to places like the Smithsonian which wanted everyone to think that before "god" there was only cavemen.
There is something called the missing link for a reason. Either we rapidly evolved, or had been here a lot longer than their books say.
And yes I own both of his books and have read them many times from front to back and every wheres in between. He gives many good tips and teachs many needed survival skills, and discusses things that you wouldn't even think about. But I have to wonder what his plan is for himself when he gets old. Cody is good, but he isn't in this world alone.
I would like to know when this video was made? Was it before or after he returned from making the "Dual Survivors" discovery Channel series with Dave Canterbury. The reason I would like to know is that in the show he says that he has not worn shoes and long pants for TWENTY years, in order to train the mitochondria in his cells to be able to produce more heat when it is needed. I know a lot of what he says and teachs is correct, but please the Bush Hippie crap is a whole lot to swallow!
Bush hippie crap eh. Nope just a very humble guy who has ultimate respect for nature and the environment he lives in. When you live, work or spend any time out in the wilds on your own you soon realise that you need to slow down and observe/think. With that comes a greater appreciation of life and nature. Theres no room for clowns who jump around and act macho in the wilds. Thats how you get injured and burn off truck loads of wasted energy.
@branni79 I recommend to anyone who doesn't really like Cody's approach to at least check out his book 98.6 Degrees. It's a survival manual that gives a better idea of what his methods are like.
@Forsure3333 The purpose of each book is very different. 98 degrees is about keeping a person alive for about 72 hours if they become lost in the wilds. WAHBL is about "bugging in" and dealing with disasters. Water treatment, food storage, sanitation, psychology etc. It is a much bigger book. I really recommend reading them in the order they were published 1st 98 degrees then WAHBL. However, they are stand alone books so you'll be fine. The library is the best way to check them out. Enjoy.
They were just walking along and found a dead deer? C'mon!

I know, you will laugh about this joke only in ... june or july ....next year.
tekknorat 1 year ago
@tekknorat By the way, if I walk barefoot in Alaska then Cody isn't lying? Using your thinking device much? He would still be a liar ;) haha!
smokkapi 1 year ago
@smokkapi yes, the point is I want to see you walking barefoot in cold, cause you probably think you can do that. Norway, ok, it's cold there also. Go on, go out when it's about -20C, seems like that cold could be in this particular video. do you know such word as "generally", in this case Cody is "generally" or *most of the time* walking barefoot, except for some other reasons like cold or places he's not allowed to go barefoot. so he is NOT to be called liar.
tekknorat 1 year ago
@smokkapi i will quote Cody on this "If the person is stupid enough to walk barefoot in this cold environment.. that's called gene pool at work... and... better that they don't breed". Thank you.
tekknorat 1 year ago
@tekknorat
How ironic, I guess he himself is the gene pool at work then.
Here's some youtube links with cody for you:
/watch?v=QcrEEn3km5s
/watch?v=sWjriy4NIaA&feature=related
Btw try walking in the desert with no shoes, or LIVE there like cody.
Is it better to die from a snake bit or scorpion sting on your foot?
Please refrain from typing if you dont even stop to think about what your saying
Thank you :)

He does go with out shoes most of the time, he knows his personal limits
jscanyon 1 year ago 47
@jscanyon He CLEARLY said on his show that he has not worn shoes in over 20 years, and he wears sandles maybe once a year if need be. Sandals are not shoes.

@jscanyon
What about the pants? I thought he had a shorts only rule.
shadows124 8 months ago
@shadows124 There are no "Cody Rules", Jeeze! He Chooses to wear shorts as much as he can. If the weather is to harsh he will do what he needs to do to protect his body. What is the deal with people freaking out over Cody having pants on, or flip-flops.... He is a human, he will do what he needs to do to protect his body, end of story. People need to look past Cody's external image and HEAR the invaluable information he is trying to relay. He has much to teach everyone/anyone.
jscanyon 8 months ago
@jscanyon If there no "Cody Rules" Than don't say "Cody does NOT have a "no shoes EVER" rule."
shadows124 8 months ago
@shadows124 Dude, that means He doesn't have a NO Shoe Rule.... Wow. Sometimes we both wish he hadn't taken this job with DS. People only see his feet and don't hear what he is teaching..... he and I get stuck responding to 1000's of questions about shoes, shorts, on DS he ate this or that- why, instead of the important things he is teaching. If you really want to know more about Cody's reasons for shoes or shorts go to his web page's Q&A, or read 98.6.
jscanyon 8 months ago
@shadows124 From Codylundindotcom "Acclimatization: Simply meaning, when it grows colder outside, try wearing less clothing. The seasons don't turn from summer to winter at once. Nature offers you a choice to acclimate in her gradual change of seasons. DON"T be a Dumbass and go with too little clothing into the wilderness" -Cody Lundin

@jscanyon heat can be tough, few steps on metal with a 40degC day can be done, much more will actually cook your feet and you'll feel the cooked tissue under-foot for 3+ days.

neuroleptika 1 year ago
@neuroleptika Not fake...just planned. They put the dear there in advance. This vid made surviving look too easy. The chances of anyone finding a dead animal on their first week...let alone their first night are slim to none. In that environment, if you don't know how to set traps, you are basically dead....unless you have a bow and arrows of course.

3246mms 1 year ago
I would like to know when this video was made? Was it before or after he returned from making the "Dual Survivors" discovery Channel series with Dave Canterbury. The reason I would like to know is that in the show he says that he has not worn shoes and long pants for TWENTY years, in order to train the mitochondria in his cells to be able to produce more heat when it is needed. I know a lot of what he says and teachs is correct, but please the Bush Hippie crap is a whole lot to swallow!
3246mms 1 year ago
@3246mms
Thats how you get injured and burn off truck loads of wasted energy.
branni79 1 year ago
@branni79 I recommend to anyone who doesn't really like Cody's approach to at least check out his book 98.6 Degrees. It's a survival manual that gives a better idea of what his methods are like.
colddrake80 1 year ago
@colddrake80 Personally, I don't like all of cody's methods but he really does know what he's talking about most of the time.
MrEhud77 1 year ago
@colddrake80 He also has When All Hell Breaks Loose. Which one is better? Should I buy both? In any case, I ordered WAHBL through my Public Library.
Forsure3333 1 year ago
@Forsure3333 The purpose of each book is very different. 98 degrees is about keeping a person alive for about 72 hours if they become lost in the wilds. WAHBL is about "bugging in" and dealing with disasters. Water treatment, food storage, sanitation, psychology etc. It is a much bigger book. I really recommend reading them in the order they were published 1st 98 degrees then WAHBL. However, they are stand alone books so you'll be fine. The library is the best way to check them out. Enjoy.
colddrake80 1 year ago
@3246mms
If you are out in the wilds alone with no means of contacting help you dont want no injuries jumpin around.
