  • MY DAD KICKED DENNIS FERRARA'S ASS A THE 68/S/S NATIONALS WITH OUR 389 PONTIAC

  • You'll notice on Google Earth they only developed the EXACT area the strip was on. It is not like they wanted to develop 1000 acres and the strip was a small part of it. I think LI sucks and I think that the missing tracks (westhampton and Bridgeport) discourage people from getting into racing. Am i supposed to build a car on LI and then test it at Atco or Englishtown? Maybe Watkins Glen or Poconos? It is all politcal, just like Islip Macarthur airport, people are complaing about the noise there

  • Put 1/4 mile track by airport or any noisy place we need one !

  • @OFFSHOREJOJO It won't make a difference. They were going to build one at Calverton airport but they wouldn't allow it due to "noise". WTF!!!!!!!!! It's a god damn airport! How can they site noise as a valid excuse. Steve Levy just doesn't want a track anywhere on Long Island. End of story.

  • I got a 57chevy rules shirt there,raced a 67 road runner.Remember woody wood pecker,the line came from here''long island international speedway''not englishtown.

  • @howcomecattleman yea I grew up there, never paid admission. once inside bought one pit pass and passed it back and forth through fence to 4 friends.....Hey dont for get to visit the goodie booth! lol

  • us long islanders hate the fact that our 2 drag strips were takin from us..... the closest is englishtown

  • wow great to see this...i miss westhamoton...first track i ever raced on...

  • WOW Old school with a capital O!!!

  • Man, this is like a who's who of 1960's drag racers. Dyno Don Nicholson, Ronnie Sox, Hubert Platt, Dandy Dick Landy....way cool.

  • its sad to see what Long island was

    and what it has become

    Who voted for Leavy?

  • You have the best drag vids on youtube. Those shots of the cars on the return lane are fantastic. Ronnie Sox up close in the Cuda and Road Runner and Dick Landy in his Dodge and all the other great shots. Wish it were that way today!

  • Great Suff. Funny seeing Terry Hedrick with snow on the ground. I saw The Ramchargers break the 7 second barrier at NY National Speedway while it was snowing. I was also there for the Wild Thing Volkswagon wheelie truck crash - that sucked ('68 Summernats). I miss that track.

  • @paunet

i was there at that v-w wheelie truck i helped lift the truck to help the guy traped

between the guardrail and the truck. i was racing the 55 nomad called Satisfaction

  • @paunet

also i believe that was the first 4 lane track and yes i also miss that track

    i was a sunday worrier there 1965to72

  • I raced my brand new 1972 nova there. Suffolk Raceway.

  • Is that snow? Maybe there's hope for drag racing in the winter in ND

  • National Speedway exit70 off the LIE every sunday

does this bring back memories! I ran there and all the other tracks on Long Island. Thank You for the great memories. Quarter Mile is the only way to go. Still have my 68 Mustang to keep me going

  • When it comes to sex, drag racers do it as fast as they can.

  • Great video! I'm looking for video of NY fuel racer Red Lang From the early '60's to late '60's. My dad used to help him. thanks

  • Fantastic Foogage Thanks for Posting !

    Danny

  • Great GREAT VIDEO!

  • yeah ! racing in the snow !!!

  • This brought back many memories for me. I raced @ NY National & Westhampton (sometimes the same day) Thanks to the NIMBY'S drag racing only exists on the public roadways of LI. Thats why I moved away!

  • What are the NIMBY's?

  • @ginsunh People who say "Not In My Back Yard" (even if they moved in long after the track was already there)

  • Hi, I live on long island and was wondering if anyone could help me find some local racing events? thanks.

  • There are no racing events on LI anymore other then the limited schedule run at Riverhead race way. I lived up the block from the westhampton track and used to race in Bridghampton as well I was president of The Long Island Sports Car Association from 1982-1991

  • i raced national and west hampton in the late 60's WOW this brought me back. thanks

  • Yea Too bad Long Island sucks the big one now, there is nothing to do here except for AUTO X

  • This is great. My dad (Hank Schlosser) raced a 55 chevy (yellow) called Yankee Raider on LI in the 50-60's. If anyone knows him I would love to hear stories.

  • it's to bad they closed down national now westhampton is gone. i'm real excited to see my 63 ply. ironsides in the film. me and a friend raced it for a short time in the late 60's. WOW!! this film brings back memories!

  • @446ci hello I bet You remember teachers pet plymouth

  • Great Stuff!@!

  • what a shame that they dont have a track on long island anymore ,that was in islip ,,,,,,,,,,Gruman out east is the perfect spot 4000 foot concreat runway,,,,,,,, and they wonder why we street race around here

  • get that trailer park trash out of there and build it all over again.Yes?

  • I remember Jungle Jim, Grumpy Toys, Garlits..they all came to Long Island to drag race..

  • I remember as a kid my father brought me up to Jungle Jim and introduced me to him as his number one fan. Those were great times.

  • Never seen a track with the snow that deep and a race going on!

  • According to the producer of this video, they dubbed in some of the sounds. I guess a lot of these films didn't have sound.

I just ordered the DVD to see if I can catch a glimpse of my father. He started racing at National Speedway in 1969.

  • Man that video brings back some real memories,my dad used to take me there in the 60s and early 70s to watch and i raced there late 70s,i was just telling a friend about how they used to race 4 cars at a time as this vieo show....wow thats cool

  • @operatingengineer

Hello I am your witness i also raced at these 4 lanes at first i had a yellow V-W

won my first 25 trophy's with it then there was the cars called Satisfaction 55 chev

and 55 nomad also there was a 68 camaro (scottys) a 55 called pronto

  • HOLY F*CKING SHIT!! That 67 Camaro @ about 5:20 lauched like a bat out of hell! I have NEVER seen anybody dump the clutch like that and not break anything! That thing sounded like it was spinning tire well past the 1/8 mile mark! Unearthly!

  • @punkazzgearhead hello the gold 55 chev at 5:17 sec was mine in those years we already had Oldsmobile rears in these 55'S and camaros and there was Henry's Axels

  • the days when god created badass fifty fives!!!!

  • Those days still live... I run one (a '55 wagon) out of So-Cal!

  • The pioneers of drag racing right there.

    Good Stuff
