i personally believe that martial arts such as Kung Fu or Karate have paved the way for today's styles of combat. When i was younger I did Kung Fu and today I train MMA (I currently do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Krav Maga). Martial arts will continue to evolve into new forms of combat.

In real combat muay thai people has defeated kung fu fighters in open combat...gracie jujutsu and mixed martial art fighters can probably defeat any fighter who follow a single style of combat. Lot of kung fu is stylized choreography and restricts you in combat--especially what you see in movies.
