If H5N1 became the new pandemic virus and retained its Ebola-like mortality (~60% in reported cases), and supposing it infected between one third and one half of the world pop., it would kill between 1.2 - 2.0 billion people worldwide; 55 - 90 million in the US, 90 - 150 million in the EU and 230 - 390 million in China.

Roughly about 20 - 30% of the population. Scary, huh?
