That's pretty much the way it went down in the 1986 movie, they killed off characters who's toys were discontinued, to pave the way for Season 3 of the TV Show, which would focus on the new toys. In the case of the live action films, the cast and crew were only signed on for three films Dark of the Moon was the finale of the trilogy, Transformers 4 will no doubt be the begining of a new story arc with a new main villian (Possibly Galvatron, Unicron or the Predicons)

From the early production images of devastator, he looks an aweful lot like a bionicle toy, and I'm not sure why they went with the ketchup-mustard color scheme, but whatever. I'm only a transformers fan for the Decepticons. Its obvious they would win this war, but that kind of ending simply CANT and WONT exist. I live with the fact I'll never see a true Decepticon victory. You need to take what you can get, and not have such a narrow expectation of acceptability. Autobots can't fly ,they could only for the first three episodes,somewhere during those episodes the writers decided to strip them of the ability.

Huffer,Brawn,Wheeljack,Bluestr­eak,Ironhide and Trailbreaker...flew in those episodes ..by the end of the third one they could not when Prime needed Sideswipe's jetpack.

One of the many faults of G1..but even with it's faults & animation errors.When we were young the errors meant nothing to us. Now it's a fun game to find the errors as adults.
