I'm not hatin sweetie. I'm just saying if you goin do it, do it right. : ) Btw maybe you should title your video Jamaican "inspired" beef patties that way people who view your video would know not to expect anything authentic. Just a thought. ; )
Sorry but this is not how you make Jamaican beef patties. If you want a REAL Jamaican beef patty recipe check out the video by keithcookstv. Trust me, real Jamaicans know a good patty when we see one. Nice try tho! : )
@crober0405 Hey, thanks for watching. Ya I did see the keith cooks one, he used beef suet, which I didn't have on hand. The suet does make better pastry for sure! But you gotta use what you have right. They still tasted great. Why ya hatin?
It's very similar to Haitian pate. All you do is make a dough and add egg to the mix so that it puffs and instead of using only one layer you layer maybe one or two more dough squares. (it should look like a square or rectangle) its sooo flaky and yummy
some of you are so ignorant it's not even funny. obviously if you could make beef patties you wouldn't be looking at videos on youtube. she did a god job and long as it taste good i don't see the problem. also to add not all Jamaicans are black and I would know I was born there and my whole family is from there.
you did a great job, I haven't cooked those in a long time. you can add turmeric to the dry pastry ingredients to great the yellow color you see in most Jamaican beef patties.
in my opinion i loved it..and as far as it being an empanda or a beef patty i have both jamaican and mexican and dominican friends and alot of the stuff they fix is all the same true an empanada looks like a beef patty but the tastes are different you would have to cook it to know but good job hun i loved the recipe
@ashes100 I think it has a lot to do with the pastry she used. It does not have the yellow color (turmeric) you see in most Jamaican beef patties and they are puffy so i'm wondering what kind of flour did she use, and did she use lard or something else.
I also love how your like "Usually Scotch Bonnets are really great" Haha arent those like one of the hottest peppers in the world?! You can take hot like nothing eh?
Great tips from an awesome woman! Keep up the great work! I know this vid is two years old.. But I love your voice and your a great narrator! So innocent and sweet! =D P.S. Your sure know how to cook!
@ShaneGunn1 Haaaa! Yes please do! Don't know if they'll travel well though... Just bought one today froma great place in Toronto, but I was ashamed that they weren't my own. Gotta get baking!
@atownmack Hey thanks for watching. For the pastry like a teaspoon, but for the filling it's all to taste, don't over-salt, there's nothing worse, just add gradually and taste as you go. Same goes for the pepper, I like to add lots, but try to balance it with the hot peppers (if you're using them). It's all to your personal preference, have fun with it, try a new proportion, it will still taste good no matter what you do! Enjoy! :)
@terrorkorp Hey and thanks for watching. Ya you can use hot sauce for sure, it just tastes more authentic when you have the scotch bonnet peppers, but you can't always find them. So any substitute some spice is fine. Sometimes I used dried chillies if I don't have anything else. Go nuts, and make them as spicy as you want, just taste it as your adding so you don't go too far! Let me know how it goes. :)
@tatomuck18 Hey, thanks for the question! When you put them in the oven, I do sometimes flip and sometimes not. It's really a test because all ovens are a little different. I would try to maybe rotate the cookie sheet (or whatever you're baking them on) about halfway through, but it all depends on what you need. Give it a shot, they'll taste good either way! :)
I haven't tried the recipie but it looks good. I'm Jamaican btw. Scotch Bonnett peppers are a must for that authentic taste. But I understand they are hard to find so you have to improvise. You can get scotch bonnet peppers seeds online. Try growing your own. You will be so glad you did once you add them to the meat mixture. ;-)
@Hervinbalfour Oh yes for sure, scotch bonnets are the best. Even though they're so hot, whenever I cut them now my mouth waters! Oh I would love to grow some, that's a great idea! Thanks for watching :)
Hey thanks for watching. Honestly it's all about the breadcrumbs, you just keep adding more and more, with stock (chicken, beef, whatever you have) until you find the right consistency. Keep trying, it will taste good either way! :)
@madpoetree I agree with you, that they do look like empanadas. I think I'll try to make my patties look a little more rectangularish... But the good thing about these is that the size is good for serving at parties and stuff! She did an awesome job!!
reminds me of the beef patties at Bahama Breeze looks good they make a apple mango salsa and seasoned sour creme for dipping sooooo goooood i will try this recipe!
I've only had "jamaican" beef patties in pizza joints in NYC. It's ubiquitous but these look so much better. Definitely making a batch. Thanks for the vid!
