  • You actually got me motivated with this Martin repaire videos to fix my old Levin acoustic guitar! Dont like the price of the right tools though.. I bet a silver spoon and some sweet rage would work aswell though... and some duct tape.. and a wood recycle box to throw it in when im done!.. Thanks for makin all your videos man! appreciate it!

  • Another priceless piece of acoustic history rescued from oblivion, ready to soldier on, making beautiful inspiring music for another 50 years and more :-)

  • Hey Dave! I've been watching this Martin repair since part one. Apart from to say "awesome job", I want to say thank you as well. It's amazing to see a man working with love, and just for the love of the Music. God bless you, Dave!

    Cheers from Brazil!

    - Fabio.

  • good job shame you dont live in liverpool emgland I could do with some help with mine

  • Was quite a marathon just watching these vids. This would be episode 17. Start calling you Jerry Lewis. I wa wa wa wa wonder.

  • amazing job Dave..Not bad for a cowboy !!! :)

  • Hey dave,

Just Wanted to say that I haven't had that much fun watching videos since those adult site ones!!! It was a great explanation of a restauration. That's gotta ring to it....Keep up the good work!

  • @Toptopshelf01

    hey thanks

  • While following these vids, I was skeptical that it could look decent or play at all. In the end I'm shocked how beautiful it is and sounds.

Top notch job. Had fun watching this.

  • great singing dave did not expect that

    lol

  • When you altered the neck angle did you compensate the fretboard from the 14th on up, or does it have a deflection there? Great video. Thank you. ( I hope the question is reasonable )

  • @leftyjcw

    left as is

  • @davey4557 Thank you for your reply. I have had issues with a customer because he sighted the fingerboard, saw the "kink", and refused to pay. Luthiers are truly an abused group of artists. Pay NEVER matches the efforts of restoration. Just my opinion. Anyway, you are my favorite on the tube.

  • @leftyjcw

    so true :)

    Cheers !!

  • Ohhhhh man that buffer scared the shit outta me!

  • watched em all. great result!

  • why did I feel like dancing whilst watching this vid Davey?

  • how much was the damage repair cost if yah don't mind me asking?

  • dude i enjoy watchin ur vids! keep em going

  • where the fuck are the cracks!? and why is the guitar look better than it really is if you repair it!? you're badass, man!

  • nice singing.......i really mean it

  • After watching it from beginning to end I've already grown attached to the martin haha. Fantastic work.

  • haha i love your responses to some of the comments, always witty

  • You've actually got a pretty decent singing voice Dave...

    :~)

  • hey dave i was thinking about sanding my acoustic guitar to the bare wood because i like a satin/matte feel better than a high gloss. would this ruin my guitar in anyway such as the bindings or what not? or should i use a poly remover chemical. love the videos dave

  • @YourVagIsMine

it will dry out and turn to match stick wood

  • @davey4557 wow , thanks so much for the quick reply. you saved a guitars life! so if this is the case why doesnt this happen to martin and taylor guitars without the high gloss finishes?

  • @YourVagIsMine Maybe because the satin finish guitars are more modern & this guitar is old and neglected. --I don't think this one will ever be reliable in the longer term. It would have been better with a replacement neck, maybe sourced from Martin.

  • Wow that was awesome. I've got a '42 J-45 that needs that kind of love, but Gibson said a couple of grand to restore ? Anyway it looks bad but plays great thanks for the lessons.

  • watched all 11 - brilliant - thestormconsort - england

  • @thestormconsort

    hey thanks !!!

  • What a treat! You finished off with a John Fogerty song... nice video series!

  • your definitely a swearer not a singer..;-)

  • Dude!!! awesome job on a great old guitar...loved every minute. now I'm inspired to actually restore my old Bartell fretless bass.

  • If you'd removed the 14th and 15th frets, cutout a rectangular piece of the fretboard using a stanley knife and sharp chisel, filled it in with a piece of rosewood, leveled it, replaced the frets, you'd then have an invisible repair

  • @dubskinz

    ya

    match the rosewood?

    wtf?

  • That song you sung at the end was brilliant, you have a great voice thanks for this video.

  • i love it..you did it very well.. too lucky guitar.. =)

  • Your ascendancy into Luthier Mastery is COMPLETE! Had me watching from phase 1 with this 'Martin Reincarnation'. Brilliant work Dave

  • @Rohance8

    hey thanks !!!!

  • That's NICE!

  • John Fogerty! Yes!

  • Very nice work you did. The guitar is clear as a bell.

  • YOU

    ARE

    A

    FRIGGIN

    HERO!

Martin should feel so dwarfed by you right now! youa re as awesome as to make it look betetr than stock Martins!

thats teh power of YES WE CAN-ADA!

  • THAT looks beautiful - very similar to my 000-28, yours might be shinier!!!

That would give me a big kick if I had the skill to do that . . . thanks

  • Damn - what a Luthier. Passion and Skill ... plus a kickass sarcastic and hilarious commentary. Pure genius.

  • Sweet I watched it all and enjoyed it all

  • you deserve not one, but two thumbs up!!

  • a joy to watch..hope the guy looks after it ..

  • It's not even in tune, but it's prolly normal for what happend to it. Great work, but this guitar will never be good again.

  • Amazing work. Thanks for sharing.

  • @ager60

    Thanks for the complement !!

    Cheers !!!

  • Oh, my god! Just watched the whole series, you're not a luthier, YOU'RE A SAINT!

  • @kobayashimaruaikiken

    It had calculated risks.

The guy I did it for understood that thankfully

  • Great job with that old dog...looks and sounds great!!!

  • The "glaze" on the back? What happened? Old finish showing through? Strings, Earthwood? Sounds sort of Tinny or Thin compared to an old Martin. But, never can tell listening through a laptop speaker.

THanks for the details and got a few tips thanks

  • tremendous work, i watched the whole series,

    cheers from russia

  • @Vitaminnn07

    Thanks for the comment !!

  • Hi, Great work. Well done. Noticed that it has inlays on 14 and 15th fret? That's weird.

    Thanks for watching

    Cheers !!!

  • This series is a gift. Thanks Dave!

  • the thing looks new!

  • Davey, I really enjoyed your videos. I am just learning guitar repair myself and have an old Harmony Sovereign that looks like it was in a bar fight. The dovetail joint looks very similar to the Martin that you repaired and the body has very similar cracks. Without a truss, I would have loved to know how you set the neck angle seeing you had only one shot at it. Great job ...very impressive.

  • @williamvzajac

A lot of thinking, experience and a good guess as to what to expect. The worst case would have been a lot of extra work on the bridge and saddle.Cheers !!!

    Thanks for watching !!!

  • @williamvzajac Set the neck angle with the idea of a tall bridge saddle with ZERO bridge deflection, When you assemble the guitar, if it bellies a bit you will have plenty of saddle to shave off to get it right. I hope this helps you out

    Cheers !!!

  • Davey,

Great job. Looks and sounds wonderful. I'm still laughing my ass off at the thought of you smashing the guitar in two. What a hoot!

    Jim
