Thanks Jeff they were a terrific group of men. All were friends of mine. I am especially close with Joe Messina and speak with him often. I also sell his book Giant Steps from my site, Educational CyberPlayGround which is filled with music exercises that professional musicians want to work with. Joe is a wonderful man.
The Funk Brothers were a group of performers who played together and came together almost like a family. It was easy to see through their performances that they really enjoyed playing and spending time together. They were a great group who influenced music in so many different ways.
This film is very inspirational! The Funk Brothers represent the essence of Jazz. Undoubtedly the greatest influence to modern music. It is time the world finally know who these great men are. As a society, we need to start appreciating true talent and respecting those who perform with spirit.
I love love love the songs, "My Girl", "Do you love me" and "Stop in the name of love". I grew up listening to the Funk Brothers, yet I never knew their name or who they were as individual artists and as a group. This group has really been underrated and probably has not received the proper recognition that they deserve. They played a major role in what music was and what it is today. Joe Hunter said it best when he said that he wondered if anyone would know who they were
I did not know the The Funk Brothers made "My Girl". That song was featured in a korean movie I recently watched named, My Sassy Girl. It just goes to show you that their music has spread throughout the world.
Music back then had more soul and depth to it compared to the music nowadays. There was true emotions and feelings that not many music artists can even attain in their songs. I loved the songs "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Ain't no mountain high enough." I actually grew up on a lot of the songs that they played. Brings back good memories with my family! :-)
I would really like to understand why the Funk Brothers were not more recognized. They sang all of those amazing songs that I'm sure most people have heard of and enjoyed listening to. My favourite song definately has to be 'Aint no mountain high enough' , I remember learning the lyrics to this song a while back and singing at the top of my voice to it.
@Jloweish The FUNK BROTHERS were the studio musicians who PLAYED on the tracks - not the singers who made the songs famous - but without the Funk Brothers, there would be nothing great to sing over!
thanks! Magic is right :-)
