I'm agnostic and I just want to say I've been spending my morning researching the history of christian metal and a lot of this stuff is awesome, this song for example pwns hard. I listen to music about satan and I don't worship him either so I don't see why I can't appreciate these guys rocking out about something else I don't necessarily believe in. If the music is good, it's good, and that's awesome. Rock on you crazy metal christians, rock on.

If you can pick up an original copy of 1994's "Rattle Your Cage" or a 2004 re-issue, do it. Excellent songs, and great album all around, with a positive message at no extra charge!

Actually, despite their image, Iron Maiden is one of the most wholesome bands one could listen to. They do not glorify evil whatsoever. Actually, virtually all of the song material is either literary or historical accounts.

There other great Christian metal bands, too, but I am not sure which sound like Barren Cross. This group, Saint, might be similar.

Back in the day I heard a Maiden song or two, I'm sure. But from all I saw, read and heard I knew they were glorifying the devil and evil. And as a believer in Jesus Christ, I am not going to mix that in with what I listen to. I will listen to some non-Christian stuff, but I am not going to listen to songs that make the devil out to be great. You leave yourself open to demonic influence -- NOT good!

As others have said, you've really got Maiden pegged all wrong. Most of their songs talk about history, mythology, or even classic movies! Yes, they have a couple songs here and there that deal with occultic or satanic issues, but that is just one topic among hundreds. FAR from being the message of the band. In this age of digital music you can really pick and choose which songs you are exposed to, there's no reason to throw out the entire body of work of one of the best bands in history.

The "power of the cross", etc. we know it really means the resurrecting power of God via His Spirit. The cross itself was an instrument used to execute criminals .. kind of like the electric chair which we have today. It was not fitting the Jesus was crucified like a criminal. Conversely, he died for the sins of ALL!

God did raise him from the Dead ..

The cross or crufiction was not effective against the Son of God. He is no longer "on the cross" or dead but he lives .. The cross is Barren.

Not at all. I don't see it. The whole Barren Cross or as you state it "Empty Cross" explains it all. It is talking about him being off the cross and raising from the dead. You don't worship or show signs of belief with a cross and Christ on it. He beat it and went on to raise from the dead. It is a sign of his victory over death.
