saw Paul Collins couple of months ago at the blue star cafe and met him. They sounded amazing and Paul was such a down to earth guy. It was a tiny gig.
sooooo, confused with that long forgotten actual cassette dub / Breakaways that was briefly sitting on the kitchen table at 12967 Kittridge north hollywood back then. annnd wait. ? who drummed on the MnM's 45? too much info am harde to remember makes barbies brother's head hurt.
yess but who played drums on the Breakaways tracks ha
the guy who played gtr at that session (and i believe he's on the great MnMs 45, definitley) was a housemate at the time, yea whatever, but he brought homke the "breakaways demo" and we were all wot? huh? this is kinda a lot better than the dopey wimpy Nerves that nobody in LA liked to speak of. "uh, look at the player credit u idiot. NO JACK LEE huh!" hmm historical info, extremely sketchy
@hectorsalinasisback + WTF are you talking about? This is a totally nonpolitical POP song. Keep your Ron Paul testimonials to threads that have bearing to your beliefs. Okay? Thanks.
People who dislike Paul Collins Beat are liberal idiots who support Obama and Bush's wars in the middle east where the U.S. spends billions to invade and brutally occupy sovereign nations where we force them to accept democracy as a form of government at the expense of our taxpayers and the cost of countless lives of innocent U.S. soldiers and civilians. Real conservatives know the U.S. should spend that money to create new jobs! PAUL COLLINS BEAT FANS FOR RON PAUL 2012!
I regard these guys as power pop. Thank goodness for the power pop bands of the late 70's and early 80's - there was not much else to listen to at that time unless you liked new wave/punk or techno...........
Paul Collins beat very underrated - many thanks for posting !
@bobo007xx Powerpop is the right term because it expresses energy. New Wave is just a term that the Record industtry moguls came up with just to get the new sounds that were coming out on the radio.
So this is the reason they were called The English Beat in America? Never heard these guys before. Catchy song. And they must have been pretty big if they were on Bandstand.
I know. But the were just called The Beat in England. When they came to the US they had to change their name to The English Beat. And they had to do that because of this band.
@ar4216 Some people in the USA referred to the English Beat as the Beat, but contractually, they were always "th English Beat", and yes, it was because of this group... Going the other way, the group known as the Spinners in North america were called "the Detroit Spinners" in the UK and Ireland.
@theonlytruepunk I thought they were called The New Originals ... LOL Anyway in the late 70's/early 80's, Squeeze were originally UK Squeeze in the U.S. because there was an American band called Tight Squeeze. There was another band called U.K. (a descendant of King Crimson) so there was some confusion between UK and UK Squeeze, although not much because of the difference in styles, over here, and U.K. disappeared pretty quickly.
Not on American TV, BBC union rules would at least require a "live" performance before the actual show. Check out the "Old Grey Whistle Test" if you want a few hundred examples
the beat was awesome.the 1st album was classic but then they had to change the name of the band to the paul collins beat because of the band the english beat but the music was still great,power-pop was the shit!!
These guys have a new live mp3 download CD on their website and a new studio album due out in 2007. Paul Collins' Beat have performed with The Cure, The Jam, The Police, Stray Cats, Huey Lewis, The Specials, Pere Ubu, Eddie Money & many more. Long live The Beat!
I used to listen to this album over and over when it first came out. A highlight for me was going to San Francisco to watch them perform.

You're not thinking of Quiet Riot, are you? "Cum On Feel The Noize"?
Salguine 2 years ago
@Salguine "Cum On Feel The Noize" originally by 70's brit band Slade.
notchic 2 years ago
Yeah, I know, but the Quiet Riot one is generally the one people know. When that song plays anywhere, nobody goes, "Oh, wow, Slade!"
Actually, come to think of it, nobody goes "Oh, wow, Quiet Riot!" either. They usually just start rolling their eyes or laughing.
