In seriousness, while you're truly duplicating the sound the record, it doesn't sound bad. I think way too many people get wrapped up in duplicating the exact sound on a famous record...play it the way you like it, if people want to hear it like like the original, tell them to go buy the record.
This is dreadful. Nothing about it sounds right. Wrong notes, wrong timing, hell you've even got the wrong pickup selected. Learn the song before you post it up next time.
Yeah its not the best cover out there, but in all fairness, it was recorded the very same day i learned the solo so a few parts are wrong, and I know I missed some notes/timing in a few places. I've had much more practice with this solo since then, and have taken care of the errors in this video. As far as the pickup selection goes, I simply liked the tone it produced with this solo. Thanks for your opinion though.
P.S. you forgot to mention that I played it with a pick.
It has to be played on position 4 my friend. That whole Knopfler sound is totally based around that position, and the fact that he plays with his fingers. I never mentioned this before as others had already done so, but it's a very important, if not THE most important part of MK's tone so you should really learn it.
In order to play well you have to feel the music regardless of who wrote the piece originally. I'm simply absorbed into what I'm doing. I may not address it with the same emotions as the writer but I can still feel the music I play.
So according to your logic all of the classical pieces of music written by long dead composers do not deserve to be played today because it is impossible to "feel" anything when you play them, seeing as you are not the one who created them?
Very well done. I like your "feel" for the music and tone. You really "get" Mark Knopfler. In fact, you could sit in for his sideman on tour...wonderful job!
Awesome version, I have the same guitar (except rosewood neck instead of mapple) but I can't play like you do with your heart! I don't care what others says about your bends and rythm, as long as you play with your heart and with passion.
Depends on how good you are and how you play it.....i find the faster parts a little tricky, but i play with fingers for ye olde dire straits (cos mark knopfler does)....if you're an intermediate guitarist, you should be able to get it down with a bit of practice. Mind you....that's my opinion...lol.
