Yesterday I told my friend that it was George Harrison's birthday...His response was: Geroge Harrison?...WHATS WRONG WITH MY GENERATION! I GOT SO PISSED!
We're all such douchebags.. We take a beautiful song like this and somehow still manage to twist it into some despicable argument. May God have mercy on all of us. "I'm an atheist and still love this song! Heharheha!" Go annoy some other world.
i'm so glad my dad was a huge beatles fan and got me into him. One of my favorite bands. I also like to enjoy a smoke and listen to them, puts me in the same mind set my dad was lol.
Even though I'm an Anglican, I still sing along to this- not just because George is AWESOME but because no matter what religion we follow I believe we all have the same God :)
If any of you do any real reading, you will find that George Harrison admitted he wrote this song in this way to fool the Christians at the time into singing along with the song. Then at the end they realize it's not about Jesus Christ at all. It's about Hinduism etc. It's all deception like a lot of other crap out there now.
George Harrison will always be my biggest inspiration on guitar. In fact I wouldn't be playing unless it was for him. He was so inventive with his riffs and had such a good background of theory. I think of him as a phenomenal guitarist who was very underrated.
this has nothing to do with Catholocism or any Western religion - George Harrison became very interested in Indian mysticism later in life.... notice how the lyrics have Hare Krishna and Hare Rama... also, the guitar is reminiscent of Eastern instruments like the sitar.
@supropiochango really im sorry you feel that way they saying hallelujah but in german and other languages and yes it does have to do with god and jesus go look it up. i been a christian since age 6 and i thought you would have known this for sure. god bless you and enjoy this great song
@supropiochango Actually, it's a mixture of both Christianity & Hinduism, which mesh very well. I guess you didn't hear the "Hallelujah" part of the lyrics. The song makes a good companion to "Day By Day" from Godspell.
@ding11bat I couldn't agree more- I don't understand why someone would bother to listen to something they don't like just to let others know they don't like it. This song is absolutely brilliant and beautiful.
I think George saw the true values in religion. The real meaning behind it. In contemporary society, cynical people mock religion because it requires a leap of faith. Maybe they do it because they just can't take that leap. I don't blame them. Its not easy. But if everyone took the easy way out, nothing would have meaning. I think George knew that. I think everyone else should know it too.
I have not enough data to know if there is or there is not a GOD, nor if I even should look for one... but I hear George's cry just the same. That riff took me the first time I heard it, and will never leave me as many of George's works. Yet a rap ear may never connect, nor will many ears of a different era... but then I listen to most music and find that I am already unable to revisit all of it, fault of time... music resonates with the Quantum. dormantideas
@MrJuggernutter Noel mentions in an interview he didn't see the resemblance until someone mentioned to him, claiming that the songs just pops into his head and he writes them.

Hey you guys! If you really want to know the transcendental meaning of "Hare Krishna." DON'T SPECULATE ANYMORE. Call in your local Hare Krishna Temple!!! or go to krishna.com and really find out, what this song really means.
If you actually listen most of the ways through the song it's saying different religious phrases and symbolism. Don't be such a douche by putting a stupid comment under a beautiful sing
you do realize this is a Hindu song. they are singing to Krishna Hare Krishna at 3:32 Krishna Krishna Hare Hare , telling ya, they're singing to a demon,
@matthewwilliams2002 it does not matter what kinda song this is its beautiful. and FYI Krishna means God in Hindu, and no George was not Hindu, He was Buddhist. he meditated daily and while he meditated he chanted "Hare Krishna" by doing that, u speak to god, play with him, you see him. and Krishna is not a demon, neither another god, but the same as our god, Jesus's Father. its just in another language, so they call it Krishna, like we say hello and spanish say hola.
@shelbydee60656 he actually was Hindu. He says Hare Krishna, true, but also Guru Deva, Guru Vishnu (Vishnu - son of Shiva and Parvati; part of the Hindu polytheistic system of gods and demigods). It's nothing to fear, because while the religious structure is different from our monotheistic tradition (which it is), the principal of FAITH are the same, and the strive for spirituality and it's subsequent rewards are the same. It doesn't mean we're not "allowed" to appreciate it on any level.
@matthewwilliams2002 Learn things about Hinduism, or life for that matter, before you make comments like that. It's better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
This song was played on a slideshow of pictures of my uncle at his funeral. It was really amazing and it makes me cry every time I hear it because it was the best song to have on that video. :)
Krishna is another name for Lucifer (the Devil). Please research this shocking fact.
"And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, (the evil beast) whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." ~HOLY BIBLE Revelations 13:7-8~
@TruthTeller878 I think it's hilarious when Christian fundamentalists try to equate other religions with evil. Here's the historical link----Buddha was born into a Hindu caste and thereby influenced by Hinduism. Everything important Jesus ever said had already been said by Buddha 600 years before him. The next time you come across a "shocking" fact, make sure it's actually a fact.
@jkobry. Stop being willfully ignorant about the evil "UFO creatures" and their religions of evil that lead so many astray from truth. I sent a message to your YouTube channel that explains more.
@jkobry Christian Fundamentalists and Mormons "MAKE ME PUKE"!! I hate when those "DORKY MISSIONARIES" and "JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES" come to my door, and tell me that I'm going to "BURN IN HELL" if I don't become a member of their "STUPID CULT"!! George Harrison preached peace and tollerance, even if you didn't agree with his particular beliefs,at least he didn't judge anybody to "BURN IN HELL"!! I sure as hell do NOT want to live in a godammed theocracy, with some "BIGOT",passing judgement on society!!
I just watched a documentary about George and this song was meant to be the closest thing to putting the essence of a mantra to music....it worked. Still loving it as much as the first time I ever heard it! R.I.P.George.Hare Krishna.
@xxxhawksrockxxx I'm sorry I didn't want to be the one that rains on the parade, but I do have a few issues with your statement. First, I'm pretty sure we'll be dead in four hundred years unless we become immortal, so the Beatles will be the next to next to next generation's Beethoven. Second, Beethoven is the Beethoven of the past and our generation, and of the rest to come; the Beatles are The Beatles of past generations, our generation, and will be The Beatles for the generations that follow.
@Tuttuh6 I like the song, too, and I too, am a nonbeliever. I like how the song goes; the tune. Harrison was sued by the Chiffons, for plaigering their song, "He's So Fine." But, I thnk the lawsuit was either dropped or settled out of court. Aside from that, this became a big hit.
Chant and be happy! Vegetarian power. Check out my band: Bluemor Blaze. We love peace and vegetarian food.First of all we love our music,to sing, compose, record, produce etc.
We would LOVE to be a famous band. You can do so many good things when your famous.Money is nice, money itself is nothing, everything depends on what you do with the money. You can do millions of good things with money € We LOVE George Harrison (Son of Hari)
@MrStuporfly The LP Ravi Shankar at Woodstock (WORLD PACIFIC 21467) was re-recorded later in the studio, so its not live at Woodstock. The newer CD collection, Woodstock: 40 Years On: Back to Yasgur's Farm, contains some real audio from his performance. search Youtube for Ravi Shankar at Woodstock and you can see the small bit of video that does exist.
I heard that George was mates with John Bonham from Led Zeppelin. At one of George's birthday partys, George got into a cake throwing match with Bonzo and Bonzo threw him in the swimming pool, all in good fun of course. Wish I could have been there.
@fanfav3838 Hahaha! Now that's funny! Did you hear how he butchered John Lennon's song, "Imagine", on New Year's Eve? Omg!! Why, of all people would they ask him? I think it would've been better, just to play the original song!!
I really didn't listen never another song like My Sweet Lord. I'm a Beatles's fan and this single is the best song after the album Abbey Road but I did read about George like singer and the people talking about another song from the early sixties alike My Sweet Lord and the problems who George had. I appraice to find people interested about the Beatles today. Bye.
I always loved this song. It just digs into your very soul. Those guitar solos are perfect! But the neverending Hare Krishna part just rubs me the wrong way...

Does anyone know if Ravi Shankar played at Woodstock? I'm pretty sure that he played at the Monterrey Pop Festival in '67.
