  • the Force is strong with you...

  • yoda ses i hav taut you well my young aperntis

  • lol a gibson logo on a neck that is CLEARLY a Fender Jaguar/jazzmaster/mustang's xD ur cool dude, ur cool!

  • This guy doesn't know what he's doing. What a joke!

  • why did you put the gibson logo on the head stock evh's was a Kramer

  • Where did you get the Gibson logo?

  • I think he baught the neck from gibson that's why

  • doubt it... they dont generally make those necks..... only on specail request....

  • what about clear coat?

  • would it be ok to do this in the winter in ny or should i wait til spring

  • Make an Aerosmith guitar. :D

  • It looked like it may have been a wormoth body, at the beginning you can see the brand in the neck joint of thier little dude logo. The paint job turned out pretty good man. From the SC custom shop did you get your pikup speced close to what you figure evh would have had on his white guitar? or no. What pickup did you go with, if it sounds good, can you tell me the gauge, and number of turns you had done on it? Cheers, IC.

  • whats the hardest thing about making your own guitar?? someone said to me it can ether go really well or turn out rubbish is this true?

  • good question! truth is this is'nt my own personal idea for a guitar...Eddie VH came up with this design and I only tried to follow in his footsteps as best I could..And after much study and research I was able to come up with a copy of his guitar that blows away anything else any music store!! however I am an owner of 2 EVH Musicmans and 2 Peavy Wolfgangs and those are very awesome guitars they sound and play amazing!

  • Eddie had a fender neck with a "Gibson" sticker...briefly...I have seen pics of it. The wider stripes on the white/black guitar were paint, and the thin ones were pinstriping he later pulled off for the red. BUT..if you want to stick with this white/black...great job painting the little ones on, I would have too. VERY,VERY..good taping, people tend to screw the placement up...

  • love the yoda doll

  • make it say fender

  • A very First Gibson-Strat Hybrid!

  • make it a fender. not a gibson

  • did you use poly or lacquer?

  • eruption. eddie van halen

  • Did you slant the pickup in this guitar or did you buy the picup F-spaced? Is there enough space to slant the pickup for the pickup routing that you have?

  • I wanna know where that thin tape (1/8th, 1/4, etc.) can be bought...........I looked all over for that stuff and can't find it local.

  • THE FORCE......

  • fuck that wood grain EVH that bitch!!!

  • the grain on that wood is perfect!! cant believe you would do that to such a perfect body. :(

  • such beautiful wood. gone. :(

  • wasting such beautiful wood. :(

  • can you tell me what type of wood did you used on the body?

  • Look!!! It's Yoda!!! right in your house!!! I knew he wasn't dead.

    Cool guitar btw.

  • whered you get the body?

  • YODA

  • you lucky basterd

  • he didn't even prime it! WTF?!!! now the paints soaked into the wood!

  • OMG That was such a nice wood grain before you painted over it with black!!

    You bastard.

  • I know I hated to do it it was really nice!! but I needed to make this guitar for my VanHalen tribute band..

  • amazing design on it. never thought of doing it that way

  • can u make this guitar with a strat that has 3 pickups or does it alredy need to just have 1 pickup in it....o n by the way if u can make this guitar wif a guitar that has 3 pickups where can i buy a single pickguard???

  • if going to spend money on a homemade guitar kit dont get a strat

  • STRATS ARE AWESOME!

  • hate to ask but where did you get that single pickupguard?

  • these guitars are so fun to make i have 4 of them... i just get sucky cheap guitars and tear them apart then get new pickups and a EVH paintjob

  • How you been Hakk? Hows the idea to build another one? Mines doing great.. Looking for a EVH custom 78 for Christmas gift to myself. Maybe a new Project soon. See you man!

  • y did u put gibson on it?

  • wannabe EVH

  • just wondering how much is the measurement for the thinner strips of tape when painting

  • where'd you get the gibson sticker

  • Ebay

  • Gibson logo on a Fender 70's head stock?

  • Help you I can yess...Yoda hmgh...you seek Yoda..

  • hahaha its like yoda is your little helper

hey yoda can you hand me that cloth??

    hahaha :)

  • Help you I can yess...Yoda hmgh...you seek Yoda..

  • Is the thick stripes one piece of tape all the way on the guitar? Please answer.

  • dude van halen guitars are so overrated.

  • they are really pretty basic guitars nothing very top secret about them..

  • didnt say top secret. just said over rated.

  • that looks like a guitar hero guitar

  • did u put enamal(idk how to spell it) on this

  • that was cool. nice yoda

  • the body was to nice for this

  • i know it really had an awesome woodgrain. I'm planin on making a natural wood finish looking guitar in the future

  • good idea:)

  • i did this already, but the Tape pulled off a bit of the paint with it off the sides..

    Why is this?

  • probably using to much paint, when it layers on too much it can go with it. Be careful to how you pull the paint off also.

  • why is yoda gaurding your guitar polish

  • Yoda Help you I can Yes..

  • nice. im thinking of assembling my own guitar as well. how many layers/coatings(?) did u spray?

  • did you paint it with spray paint

  • yup

  • Never get paint in the neck pocket.

  • I know big mistake was a pain in the neck to clean out

  • how did you cut it so straight?

  • the body was to nice to make black

  • this probably seems like a stupid question, but with the thin tape did u buy it that thin or did you cut it? because i cant find it anywhere.

  • i cut my own tape with a razor

  • Yoda approves.

  • Ummm....well good for you that you got up and did the refinish....why put on a Gibson sticker though? It's an old Fender style headstock....

I noted you used automotive paints - next time the body leans on something, you'll more than likely end up with imprints in the finish....rattlecans for cars have wayloads of solvent in them and they never seem to fully harden off....it would have been worth taking it to a decent booth and having it sprayed with something more substantial.

  • The reason why i put the gibson logo on is becuz eddie did..but i've been playin this guitar now for allmost a year and everything is hilding up awesome!!

  • Ahh....good answer :-D

How long did it take for the paint to cure?

  • not to long couple weeks i guess..still holding up awesome I', ready to build another one blk and yellow next i think

  • dude where did u get the gibson sticker???

  • yoda tha man!

Great work dude... how many coats did you apply and what did you use as a sealer?

  • how much did the paint altogether cost nz dollars

  • Good job my man, I ve been building these for years.

Where did you get that neck? That type is difficult to find. Warmouth custom?

  • yup warmoth custom

  • Yeah. The black and white guitar that the dude was making was the original Frankenstein guitar before it became red.

  • is that based on the van halen guitar??

  • Yoda is awesome

  • Awesome he is yes!

  • nice cant go wrong with evh,by the way were did u get the body? all ive been able to find is strats routed just for single coils

  • brilliant nice one mate looks fantastic

  • where do you get the design

  • hehe!! Edward VanHalen!! : )

  • hey did you use laquer based paint. and if you did how long did you let it settle? please answer :)

  • i used acrylic enamel

  • bloody hell thats a nice looking body.

    what wood?

  • thank you it's swamp ash

  • he, he, yoda...

  • nice eruption

  • Did you add primar before the color, and sand it before eeryhthing? And whered u get the body from?

  • Sick

  • that yoda rules!

    and the guitar rules too

  • why do ppl spray paint.. pay the money and take it to a painter, let him spray it with the right equipment...

  • hmmmm...blame Eddie VanHalen it was his idea...hehehe..

  • you can actually get some really nice paintjobs with a spray can. painting can get expensive and spray is cheap.

  • Nitro cell from stew mac??

  • very nice, i'm inpresed, but if you did not put that floyed rose in it, it would be a classic eddie van halen frankey

  • did u post this over at EVH(dot)com...i remember seeing that neck, that logo, and that body with the same coloured tape at EVH(dot)com....

  • >_> Fender headstock with a Gibson tag taped onto it. For shame.

  • cool guitar man. like the desighn. is ter a clear coat on it

  • doubt it. looks like he just spray painted then polished it. and it looked like he had plans to put Gibson on the head stock... why? its a [you] guitar not a Gibson.

  • I love how you put on a "Gibson" headstock when its obviously a fender one haha

  • Did you build the guitar or just paint it?

  • did you get a good finish with spraycans? i mean, how long does that finish hold?

    congrats.

  • how long did you wait after clearcoating to reassemble your guitar?

  • probably until it was dry.

  • hey what paint is that.... i really wanna do that to my guitar... well get my dad to do it

  • what song is in 1:22?

  • eruption

  • know your Van Hallen man!

  • hey

    amazing job btw

you kickass at building EVH replicas

maybe you should take that up as a prat time job

    anyway

did u use any pimer before you applied the black paint ???

  • too kind too kind!! thank you!! no primer just a sanding sealer and than i sprayed it black and than white.

  • Hey, got a question for you. I am working on a project and needed some advice. What I am actually doing is handpainting scenery on the guitar body I have and was curious as to exactly what finish needs to go over the top of it as a protective sealant. Just some clear lacquer? Anyway, it looks like you did a pretty good job to me. Hope the whole thing turned out well.

  • oops double post ah well thats one more comment for you =p

  • wow nice paint job ive just started rebuildin my bass and ime sandin it down atm and then am guna use the sorta paint u used, diferent paint job like....

  • Nice job but I do have a couple questions. Not to down your job its not bad.I see you scored a Warmoth body and neck. Why would you go with cheaper paint to do this graphic on parts that cost well over 400.00?Dupli-Color isnt bad as long as you use a 2part urethane clear but the clear they give you really does suck.Nice job though man.I did one not to long ago

  • I'm not a professional painter by any means I'm more of a guitar player actually..yer right about dupli colors clear in the can it sucked i tried it and it shot out a yellowy clear so I ended up not using it in the end..

  • how long did you wait till the paint dried and what type of paint did you use?? just making my own and im up to the spraying part :) ill post a vid and show you it of my guiatar once i finish it lol

  • how di u make the guitar shiny even before u applied the polish?

  • nice dude ime rebuilding my fender bass uve just given me inspararion(sorry for spelling 2 give it a new paintjob,, so i better get sanding

  • Nice! That pickup you got there must be expencive or what?

    Peace

  • yup pick up was custom made and it was spendy check out more videos at my bands website vanhalenarmy dot net

  • What kind of paint did you use?

  • How did you get your paint on so smoothly ? I wanna make a 5150 but unlike my frankenstrat I dont want that worn bumpy discolored look.

  • lots of patients it took me a while to paint this thing go to fast and the paint runs..I read that eddie used acylic lacquer paint..I couldve also, but I went with acylic enamel cuz i heard it.s more durable and holds the color longer..and I really want this guitar to look like the 1st album as long as I can..and than all of your awesome comments I really appreciate it!! thank you again!!

  • dude can you help me how you make a label? like what you did, you put gibson on a fender neck? i want to make my own label on my cheap guitar thanks

  • Acrylic enamel takes much longer to cure than lacquer

  • it sure does it took a long time

  • this guitar is now finished go to vanhalenarmy on google search to find my bands website

to see the guitar finished and used live with my VanHalen tribute band..thank you :)

  • Yoda, keeper of the polish!

  • hey dude I made a frankie replica to I think yours is the shit check mine out and tell me how I did.

  • I was planning on also painting my guitar as soon as I get the parts. What sort of sprays did you use?

  • hey go here!! watch?v=rRMa2Xh1SLs

the guitar is done and here is some live video!!! thank you all for yer very kind words you all ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This rocks

  • thank you the guitar is now finished and I'll have new footage on here soon

  • what kind of paint did u use

  • YEAH:D that's eddwards guitar ( edward van halen for the people ho doesn't know him( lozersxD))

  • Freaking cool.

The use of a Gibson logo puzzles me too, though.

  • eddies original black and white (eventually known as the frankenstrat) used to have a gibson sticker

  • why did you put a Gibson logo on that?

  • The black and white strat had a gibson sticker on the headstock b/c EVH felt his gutiar was a combination of a fender and a gibson

  • i doubt if hes sprayin it with can spray that he carved it lol

  • what kind of paint did u use and did u use a clear finish on top of it

  • thanks yoda!!!

  • wow! did u carve that urn self or did u get it from the factory and paint it yourself?

  • If you look at the body before it's painted there is a Warmoth logo on the neck pocket.
