  • is this for real, jeebus

  • What a way to fuck up. a song..

  • lo mejor es su actitud y autenticidad en el escenario y sobre todo las letras de sus canciones

  • Oh come on. How can someone not like this? Fucking Philistines.

  • @getkristan are you familiar with Nick Cave's body of work? Saying that he has no talent is ludicrous. Are you familiar with the original performance of this song by Screaming' Jay Hawkins? If not, check it out. Nick is not overdoing it at all. What I like in this performance is the tempo, the rhythm, the guitar. Adds up to a creepy macabre that I enjoy. There is even better but similar piece "Six bells chime" by crime and city solution, a classic.

  • I know people will hate me for this.. but I don't put this so much above Justin Bieber. ..all "style" and no talent. Consider this: If this was a fat old bald guy in polyester doing this you would be laughing at him. But Nick was "cool" with the right look and attitude. His freakout screaming at the end is just as textbook as Bieber going into a little Michael Jackson dance.. it's just a different textbook is all. At least I would call Bieber a musician. Nick Cave, to me, is a character.

  • @getkristan I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this is fucking terrible.

  • I love this guy.

    Fookin fabulous.

  • Watch this version: /watch?v=ZK-oKU4nF4s

  • @neevaroboto heroin is a death sentence.

  • @animegalc4 Nick's still alive :)

  • @4besideyouintime big shits

  • his voice reminds me of a more aggressive dr. frank n. furter

  • the 80s was an awful decade i dont like this version but saying that nick cave is talentless is too much. He has composed a fucking lot of very good songs. He can be anything but talentless

  • i believe this is actually the cavemen

  • @Cabal468 'I mean, anyone could have been NIck Cave, agreed' - You really should acquaint yourself with more of his work before you come out with that. The bloke is incomparable.

  • You better quit it!

  • You better quit it!

  • The worst song ever!!! It is absolutely dreadful lol!

  • i think everyone should suck a testi

  • This is such an ugly song... I love it.

  • @shocktk x2 :D

  • @iwasbornin87 - so, dear iwasbornin87, what should Nick do instead? Producing such fucking bore like mainstreamers as ...(put in who ever yo want)? - Being talented, does not mean to fullfill any consumers habbit, if you like so go to the opera and sleep well!

  • @SteKoWho i was just replying to some geezer who moaned about this video claiming nick was talentless. to me there's only nick cave and tom waits. all else is merely a filler. (that only applies to musicians idolised in this time period)

  • Probablement la meilleure version faite de cette chanson

  • Best punk song ever

  • Nick Cave is a diverse boy.

  • This is one of the greatest covers of all time .

  • like this cover nick cave stile!

  • You wanna' see talentless? Look up the band Ricin Curb. This is golden. C'mon!

  • This is really bad.

  • Nazis? Hate Nick? Cut your face off? Man you are angry! Less time on youtube for the both of you. Liking a band is objective. If you don't like it,find something else that you do like. Maybe you should both have a cowboy type dual and shoot each other? Over a band? Mental!!

  • lol whats this shit

  • nick cave - it just doesn't matter what anybody thinks - I'd fuck you ANYTIME, ANYWHERE

  • this band fucking sucks.

it is a band that people listen to to make themselves seem super cult

    fuck annoying scenesters

the bass player is cool tho

    faggot cowboy

  • @unholystrahd - The sound kind of sucks on this recording but I've been listening to them since the 80's because I like the music and not because I'm a scenester, the fact that Rowland S. Howard was a genius guitarist doesn't hurt either.

  • @Cabal468 i mean, anyone could have been nick cave, agreed??

  • @unholystrahd - I disagree with that too...there are very few musical artists that could write something as darkly comical as 'Hamlet Pow, Pow, Pow'...except maybe Tom Waits! :-) He is a very literate song writer...very talented.

  • @unholystrahd

You sir, must have a bitter history with Nick Cave. I know almost no one personally who is aware of him, and the only guy I know who does is very cool and relaxed. Not a scenester at all.

Plus, you're wrong, to say the Bad Seeds or Birthday Party suck is to commit a crime so unspeakably, morally abject it could be an affront to the heavens. Don't judge them by this performance, he's obviously fucked up.

  • @mrfudgeyhead surprisingly noone is shit talking me for that comment, i guess i just had a bad experience with one of their fans, he was a total scenester who thought he was gonna be the rebirth of rock n roll with his band and worshipped the birthday party and shit like johnny thunders, i also just never really dug their music, too heshed and sleazy for me i guess, screamin jay hawkins, what a weirdo haha

  • @unholystrahd billy godwin is a fake fucking nazi poser! he was crying when i blocked him from facebook, messenger and myspace so he made countless other pages to be my friend i found out he is a faggot fucking loser!! fuck you and strahd billy and even ratjuice thinks you're a pussy and william gillen is a fucking wetback!!!!!!!!

  • @johnm8h when did i say i was a nazi, you are the one who is posing gettin your tats removed. william is not a wetback, are you retarded

and you sir are a crybaby wuss and you will always live with your cunt of a mother

who i hope gets raped and murdered

better not come to va or i will shave your face off

  • @johnm8h everyone keeps telling me you are afraid of me

  • No!!!! I just finished listening to CCR's version, and then this??? Now I have to go take a bath!!!

  • No!!!!

  • I thought it was smack rather than crack ?

  • @The0Unknown0Soldier

yes, i think it was smack too.

  • Your Kidding Right.??!!!!!!!!!!!

  • grotesque ....

  • Why? 'Cause you're mine.

  • Looks like the "Cure" (band) hair style. I dunno who copied who. His singing kinda reminds me of the singers style from the New York Dolls.:)

  • @TopJimmyWinn David Johanssen.

  • @TopJimmyWinn you're talking about Buster Poindexter, and nick cave didn't copy robert smith or vice versa. the birthday party was about as old as the cure.

  • @rawknob Is this the Birthday Party or Bad Seeds?

  • Not by nick cave. Just a cover

Original artist - Screamin' Jay Hawkins

  • woah, this is an amazing moment

  • jajajajajajajaja

  • jajajajajjaajjaa

  • Oh this is great! Thanks so much for posting it. Nick on harmonica... I don't remember seeing that before. Does he play it on any other songs that people can think of?

  • this is just awful...self absorbed drug addicts ruining some good soul

  • Which is what I like about it.

  • God Nick Cave seriously sucked. He's like a train wreck to watch. But I gotta say Shivers is one of the coolest songs ever written, even though it's sappy as hell. Haha.

  • Any dissenters to this brilliance need to fuck off and die. I will eat your children. This is god.

  • @clumpft this is fucking awful. you are high

  • @vibe333 Na, any music that destyroys any sense of banal and tired old cliche'd rock structures is good. Thank god for the no-wave and post-punk music, that happened in NYC and Australia, because it was an antidote to all the boring punk bands that clung to their 3-chord, formulaic song structures. Oh, and I will eat your children.

  • @clumpft Let's not forget about some of the most influential post-punk bands that came out of Britain.

  • @cannabisabuser Sure.

  • @clumpft

Anyone wanna give PIL the credit it deserves... 5 years before the wonderful Cave...just thought id bring the the whole NYC and Aussie thing into context...lol

  • @evvia Sure, credit well deserved. Pill were infinately more interesting than the Sex Pistols.

  • @clumpft I'm no expert, but isn't Britain known for starting post-punk thus reviving music once more? Perhaps in addition to NYC and Australia, Britain had a thing for post-punk, too.

  • absolute shit ure an asshole mate

  • This is exaclty what makes Mr Cave so freaking awesone, the smack (not crack) induced awesomeness hes not perfoming to an audience hes just letting out what he has to offer and nothing more, bleak savage ,true, nothing nice about it just passion and feeling......nothing tops this guy 30+ years of perfects tunes to show for it,

  • Booourns to all the negative comments! You just obviously don't get post-punk/goth music.

  • @mismalice ok i like iggy pop the fall and atdi n more but i just cant get into this what about me

  • That was angry. But I'm surprised anyone applauded. Great performance though.

  • Wow, ain't this avant garde or what? Listen to the awful gutars...Even in my Porsche it's hard to keep track....so avant garde...LOL..

  • I would have been that harmonica

  • I want his shirt, hahahaha.

  • Best Spell On You ever. The beast within will be silenced no longer.

  • back through this era, there were a ridiculous amount of Aussie, very much in Melbourne muso's etc on the H... LOTS..

Being someone that has been going to the Espy and Prince since i was 8, yeah it was rife in the melb music scene...

    Father was a muso

  • Caralho!!! QUE MERDAAAAAA!!!!!

  • So is this actually birthday party playing it? It's crazy!!

  • Ah Nick, I want some of whatever it is you're ripped on.

    You are beautiful and frightening

  • This is obviously "The Birthday Party," not the Bad Seeds.

  • Obviously The Birthday Party? No, very early Bad Seeds.

  • Nobody even knew what crack was back then. More likely blow or the big H.

  • @chrisb4nu well cave was a heroin addict for 20 years and it probably started around the birthday party so definitely the big H

  • I don't know how i can be so attracted to a song so difficult to listen to...

  • Gotta say, if ever you were sleeping with a vampire count/mad scientist, and you started seeing someone behind his back. This truly captures the horror of that incredibly jump through hoops hypothetical scenario.

CCR and Hawkins may have the edge in terms of breaking it off with a valiant pride and dignity.

But Nick Cave is fucking ghoulish on this, you sort of expect him, not to leave her or chastise her, but literally turn her into a frog or magically sew shut her dick cavern. Awesome!

  • @mrfudgeyhead what did you just say

  • so funny.

  • The beauty of this song makes me weep and convulse.

  • personally I don't like it either. what, is he freebasing to think that sounds good? i'm scared more than anything. or is that the desired effect?

  • yeah, funny how such a talentless man would go on to become one of the most influential musicians of his time, inspiring countless bands, writing two great novels and composing scores for a plethora of fantastic movies...

    what have you done sir?

  • @iwasbornin87 - exactly...might as well go back to listening to Britney Spears and Kesha if you can't handle this goodness

  • @iwasbornin87 THIS still sucks. lol.

  • @iwasbornin87 - now THAT is how you reply on the internet. I'm doffing my hat to you as I type, sir!

  • @iwasbornin87 probably stopped doing the heroin lol

  • Comment removed

  • @iwasbornin87 Nick Cave is one of the Great Ones.

  • @iwasbornin87

You must realize how talented of a song writer Nick Cave is before you say that he's talentless.

not to mention his instrumental talents even in early-mid bad seeds.

& his voice, is fucking haunting & sexy.. It's a talent to have it.

  • @iwasbornin87 Music is much more about wanting to do rather than knowing to do!

  • @ManFromMelbourne Sounds like you're uneducated sir. Nick has more talent in just one of his fingertips than you ever will.

  • I like how the video isn't titled "I Put A Spell On You-Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds" No inclination as to what version it is, even though the photograph is obviously not Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

it's funny to see dolts put "WTF?!!"

    hahaha

  • Nick Cave shreds?

  • @bongopatrol Yeah. Check out the grinderman album where he plays lead. Fuckin' great.

  • @HateDisease then why are you watchin it man?

  • @cinephilefromhell Because I was watching at Screamin Jay doing this song and this one was on the right side over that & I like some of Nick Caves stuff and was curious about this cover. Thats why.

  • tracey phue on bass

  • Is that Barry Adamson on bass? Crazy cover. Best band from Australia ever

  • Tall dark and gruesome! He gets me everytime! He's ripped to the tits on something but who the hell cares!

  • Pesados ritmos intrascendentes, estúpidamente contagioso.

    Very great.

  • I like Nick Cave but this is awful.

  • Nick Cave is one of the scariest, darkest, most evil looking and sounding artists I know!! in a good way of course...

  • someone is under a spell here

  • this is what happenes when you try to do a set on acid...

  • Acid improves a lot of things.

  • i dont think that it's lsd .. ; )

  • @ejeeviKa: almost as easy to criticize it 26 years later

  • @johnozed HA! i'm so old i get it!

  • to spoil a song is much easier than to write a new one...

  • To spoil grammar is much easier that gaining respect.

  • I love the eventual "breakdown" to harmonica.

Cave's like, "Fuck me. No human sound could come close to what I feel like singing right now, so take this..."

It kinda brings me to my knees; spell cast.

    And how many years later?

  • This song is brilliant, none of the mind deadening bullshit that is played on the radio. At lease the sounds and tunes actually change consistently and not a repetition of the same boring beat, monotonous pretend singing.

  • bitch and moan all ya'll want but no one cares about your pissing contest on this electric billboard. i am very happy to see this moment in time documented on video ... if for no other reason than that Mick is friggin' playing drums. thanks.

  • @kiely I never realized that was Mick -laughs- thanks for pointing that out :)

  • @nlp3000 Barry Adamson on bass is way cool to see too.

  • gay? - no

    anorexic? - no

    robert smith? - no

    on crack? - yes

nick cave for the muthafuckin win!!!11!1

  • This fucking rocks.

  • cine mai e si asta/

  • saw them do this in '85, Screamin Jay Hawkins was support act! it was a better performance than this though.

Will love them always, Nick's a charismatic original to me!

  • ah i love this song! The best cover of this song yet! originally performed by the one and only Screamin' Jay Hawkins

  • I like Nick Cave for his artistic sentiments (and because we have the same name right ;>) But holy dog shit this is terrible!

  • This is soo funny & retarded at the same time...for instance: listen and watch Blixa Bargeld on guitar...trying to be so 'avant garde'....yawn...avant garde?...my ass...LOL

  • what an unadulterated fucker! ...so dreamy.....

IF I HAVE TO EXPLAIN, THEN YOU JUST WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYWAYS!!!!!!

  • @jotacalvo puede ser acepto que no lo entiendo ya que no es el estilo de musica a la que soy fans bueno como se dice cada loco con su tema saludos

  • How I wish there was still music like this around.

  • there is, just listen to the crappy bands playing garages around your neighborhood.

  • this sounds like those shred-videos.. you know.. the ones who make fun of slash and other guitarists.

  • Did they all forget how to play their instruments??

  • I think this is wonderful. And I don't care what anyone else in the world thinks about it.

  • isn't this birthday party noy bad seeds?

  • Yes, sure, you're right! 4:30 to 4:45 there's Blixa bargeld / guitar and Barry Adamson / bass.

Very good version of a very good song

  • GREAT

  • screamin J was basically a novelty act that only came out on halloween.
