@LadyGlaDosofAperture IT is not co2 inside the bottle it is compressed air, the smoke you maybe mistaking for co2 is water vapour turning into a cloud.

Mix powdered sawdust with the water when you make the ice; just the right amount and it becomes hard but not brittle and WONT MELT, will be perfect for shooting; the marbles will break instead of the ice... I saw it on a "Weird Weapons of War" episode on TV and have been experimenting with small amounts. Its hard to mix, I used a small electric hand-mixer (traditional style "2-box" beater spoons).

Could you use a faster way to open the valve, or a different type? Yours prolongs release time.

might wanna add a tube to the loading mechanism tube for quick reload, then you can literally just push the added tube up ( would normally be twising the tube ) and then push the tube foward ( would normally have to pull it foward ). Then just load up with ammo and pull back and twist right. Like a rifles bolt action mechanism. It would be 3 times as quick probably. Nice though, lot of fun making these.

@FLOOPC it probibly is bot far off, try putting a block of wood infront of the most powerful air rifle and dry firing - nothing will happen, this thing launches them, now imagine that concentrated into a .22 or 177 barrel...........also marbles weigh about 50 times more than a pellet so the velocity increase when using a small piece of lead would be mad!

@Dinocfs The fact that it launches the piece of wood is due to the massiv amount of air comming out of the chamber. The chamber of this gun is overkill in relation to the barrel. The projectile is far away when the gun still dumps air.

Commercial airguns are more efficient and provide more kinetic energy per square inch.

Keep in mind, as bigger the caliber as more energy is transfered into the projectile.

Good effort, Have you tried this at full pressure? How far have you got it to fire? Do you know of any small fire extinguishers with rating over 20/25 bar? cheers

@ramases1 I have fired this particular gun at 17bar, pretty impressive with this large chamber volume at high pressure (good recoil).

There are different kind of fire extinguisher and the ones that hold the most pressure are made for use with CO2 only. But, and that's a big one, FEs are much to expensive and most of them don't hold as much pressure as a steel pipe.

I've used 1" steel pipe up to 40 bar.

@GamingPro101 Have a good look at your FE, the maximum and working pressure are stamped into the metal. Often on the top or the bottom (if it's a refillable FE).

@GamingPro101 I think the green area in the pressure gauge is the safe working bar pressure at room temperature. I know that with CO2 FE's this pressure can change slightly with different temperatures. I've managed to fill my past the green area - an extra 3 or 4 bar but it is probably not a good idea to get near to the max pressure marked on the bottle in case something blows!
