I love the part when the drummer on the left slams the beer at the very end of the video. I like to think that after three or four takes he was feeling it. Great song and great band.
stettbach, not sure what you mean.. I really like this song, and they had a lot of hits, but half of every album was worthless crap to make it long enough to sell. If you can listen to their album from beginning to end and not stab someone, you are my fuckin hero.
Without question, Squeeze wrote and performed the smartest, tightest songs.
They were unparalleled all the years they performed in all their incarnations.
Have to say my all-time favorite is "In Quintessence", though I still love the line from "Pulling Mussels from a Shell"..."two fat ladies, window shopping, something for the mantelpiece".
Squeeze did a couple of shows last year, though nothing like a concert tour.
They've been compared to Lennon and McCarthey cause they've written some great stuff together. And Glen is a great guitarist.
Jools Holland was their keyboardist early on. Paul Carrick was the keyboardist on 2 albums and sang their biggest hit "tempted" so its funny many know Squeeze for a song that neither Tilbrook or Difford did lead vocals on.
Are they still together? Are they all alive, I'd like to see them live, I've been listening to their music since they started out, just getting on in age and haven't heard anything lately.
Squeeze went through a lot of lineup changes though always with Glen Tilbrook (guitarist and lead vocal on this) and Chris Difford (lower voice). They co-wrote the songs forget but think Tilbrook did the music and Difford the words.
Glen Tilbrook has been touring a lot on his own solo or with a new band called the Fluffers. He does small venues such as Smith's Olde bar in Atlanta and his shows are always great. Fluffers are great musicians and their record is good.
The joke is that Jooles didn't even play keyboard on this. It was all done by Glen Tilbrooke. Only the last piano cord was played by Jooles which is why they made the video like this - as if Jooles was trying to get into the recording studio. You'd be surprised how much of the keyboards was done by Glen on this album. Jooles was a bit of a slouch. Glen was the master musician.
My Mum used to play The Singles album all the time too - can't believe I still know all the words to this song it really is awesome, classic band. "Squeeze, you are true legends". And in the bar the piano mans found another nail for my heart AMEN.

The near-end of true Pop Craftsmanship. Sorely missed!

Holy compression, Batman! This song is timeless, but the recording is time-stamped 1979. I love it.

Great band, my personal favorite. If you have not listened to EACH of their albums- from beginning to end, then you are missing out in a big way.
For me, their best song: Pulling Mussels or Woman's World... best album: East Side Story.
I've been fortunate to see this band dozens of times, mostly here in Southern California... they are the best.

They were friends w/ Elvis. He did some producing for them and they did guest vocals on each others albums.

They were both part of the new wave music that came out of the UK around 1980. Thats probably why.

I've seen this band live many times, and they have always been really tight - always a great gig.
They are one af the all time british pop bands - kitchen sink lyrics, great tunes and fantastic musicians etc etc.
You've got to love the octave lead singing too (Squeeze trademark) which is largely down to the timbre of Diffords low voice and how it cut's through.
Awesome guitar solo too - for such a light bouncy song, this great solo fits right in without losing the feel of things.

One of the best guitar solos ever on a commercial rock record. Awesome.
