  • i had to laugh interviewer asks page if any recent player caught his attention answer no no one like django reindhart and if i was there id have said no one like jimmy page because he is god and so is les paul and page has taste django reindhart was one of the greatest players of all time

  • Two of the greatest human beings that ever lived.

  • @TheErik249 Subscribe to FrontRowMusicNYC. More great videos are coming!

  • great interview and les pauls sense of humour is great i have to talk to my daughter she shouldve nailed that guy fucking hilarious

  • For all the shit that gets said about Page and Zeppelin, Jimmy never seems to have a bad word for anyone. EVH knocked Page's playing and here he is complimenting him. "Listen to this Eddie" for sure.

  • @streetparade Yea ya know I agree Van Halen's music couldn't hold a candle to Zeppelin's, not even close. Zeppelin's in a whole other league then Van Halen. Jimmy didn't just play guitar he also composed, arraigned, played fantastic electric and acoustic and produced their albums so Eddie Van Halen can go shit in his own pants.

  • lolololololololol

jimmy radominess makes me think that that cigarette contains more than nicotin :D

Kiddin of course. Jimmy is da man

  • Jimmy is a guitar god, puts Eddie to shame.

  • personally think Randy Rhoads was better than both of them.

  • @gl797 Personally I feel sorry for you.

  • @THATBATTLEFIELDDUUDE I was just stating my opinion..that's what "personally" means. You had to be a wise ass so I expressed an opinion on your Led Zep video too. Go feel sorry about that. Have a good day :-)

  • @gl797 randy rhoads tone and style bores me to tears . I cant stand his playing

  • @Cincinnatus1869 LOL! stop man..you're killin' me over here ..hahahaha........

  • @gl797 I don't see the humor in it . Tell me , what's funny about that ?

  • I suppose everybody knows this already but Eddie didn't invent tapping. Steve Hackett was tapping in Genesis in '71. In fact, that's where Eddie says he got it from and Steve didn't invent it either.

  • @kyla2112 Tapping was around a long time before that, I heard somewhere that it was used very rarely back in the 50's on the jazz scene, then it must have been picked up and continued through a very thin vein of musicians until it reached Eddie's magical fingers.

  • 87... Slash

  • 1980s - johnny marr was better than all those cock rockers like van halen

  • @GriefTourist

    I agree. Or Andy Summers.

Smiths and the Police were the only decent acts to come out of the 80's as far as I'm concerned.

  • @GriefTourist Cock rocker, yeah right. Eddie was a true genius. Johnny Marr is a twat.

  • Fuck yeah she should of nailed Eddie Van Halen. Just imagine their kid:

    Lester Van halen.

  • THANX FOR THIS.GREAT STORY.

  • @TJmoneymaker13 page is still alive.

  • R.I.P Lester paul

  • Pay attention: The 2 most important people in the history of rock & roll!!

  • What Les didn't mention is that Steve Miller lived next door to him in Texas and Les taught Steve how to play.

  • not like django reinhardt", nails it 100%!!

  • I remeber reading about this show from Guitar Player magazine, wishing I could see it then. THANK YOU for posting it. Really cool!!!!

  • damn jimmy mumbles a lot

  • "I have to talk to my daughter...she should have nailed that guy".

  • TWO TITANS!!!!

  • From the 70's to 80's Jimmy Dearly needed subtitles.

  • Mas de Les Paul...

  • Happy birthday Les Paul

  • happy birthday les paul! we miss you..

  • He could, and will hammer on. it's easier than anything that Van Halen ever did. Van Halen is a joke compared to Page

  • @rhodesab55 some get it and some don't . EVH is a one trick pony compared with Page . Neither have done anything particularly interesting since 1980 , but at least jimmy has an excuse . He has no band .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 how is he a one trick pony? every album he did with roth he did something different. VH1 was the tapping and the divebombing when there was no floyd rose, VH2 you have tap harmonics and the palm muting while sliding up the strings and playing a bunch of notes thing, WACF he plays his keyboard through his marshall and plays slide, Fair Warning he does the mean streets intro. Diver Down had Cathedral and the Little guitars intro, and 1984 he played keyboards.

  • @alpha1shadow All of those techniques tend to produce a very similar sonic palette, using 'tricks' - E Van Halen is great, but to some people think that his playing lacks dynamics and soul. Despite its energy, it becomes monotonous. Some like his stuff and some don't. Some prefer Corvette, some prefer Aston Martin....

  • @Rafterman123 yeah you really can't go wrong with both. either way despite the differences at the end of the day they both played rock n roll.

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Dude The firm rocked hard and so Did Page and Plant so Page made alot of great music since that faithfull day

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Dude The firm rocked hard and so Did Page and Plant so Page made alot of great music since that faithfull day

  • Also, these two clips make more sense the other way around. (i.e. part 2 first)

  • When Jimmy replies "yeah, alright" to Les' question, what was the 2nd bit of the question?

  • I have to talk to my daughter, she should have nailed that guy!

  • Priceless.

  • This is cool its definately later than 85 Pagey been my hero since 15 now Im the same age he is here man time flies when you play ya Les Paul every day. Yes hes had his daily dose, so what he can afford it, Wish he would play Australia like Beck did recently Cheers.

  • I will be greatly indebted to both of these men for the rest of my life. Thank you for inventing the thing i love so dearly Les. Was, is, and will be simply the greatest creation. Jimmy, have you seen my soul, dude? I think i lost it listening to Ten Years Gone one too many times. I just cannot say how much you have meant to my life.

"Changes fill my time, baby, that's alright with me

In the midst I think of you, and how it used to be."

  • If you weren't a great guitarist, having story time with Les would cost you your soul.

  • Jimmy and Les were and are god among men! R.I.P. Les Paul

  • Thank You- Both of you-

  • Jimmy smiles so sweetly. He has such an angel face.

  • guitarists! pls check my video

  • EVH stuck his SXXX up ms pauls arse

  • Les Paul's daughter blew EVH? Priceless.

  • she shoudla nailed that guy ahhahahaha

  • Les Paul is the only person that can make Jimmy Page stop and listen lol

  • The two best Guitarists of the last one hundred years :)

  • i cant understand shit when he speaks, fucking Rock N' Roll....

  • Jimmy says, "Not like Django Reinhardt."

  • @FrontRowMusicNYC Django > all including Hendrix, Eddie > Jimmy Page.

  • @jimmybrown11111 False

  • What is he saying at 0:18??

  • @Stargrove777 he's saying "not like Django Reinhardt , no" - you can google or youtube him

  • haha not like django!!

  • mandare para bianca

  • JP appears very anxious in this interview, give him a guitar and he doesn't need to answer to anyone.

  • les paul was such an incredible man. rest in peace.

  • i have a les paul that i got signed by les paul before he died, and im gonna keep it til i die

  • jimmy page is so modest

  • @guitarshred32--You don't recognize, heroin induced, false modesty when you see it?

  • @tardwhisperer- That was around '86 or so. From the shirt Jimmy's wearing, i believe this was during the filming of the Satisfaction Guaranteed video. Now i wasn't around the man to see first hand, but that was at the end of his .. problems with that. For anyone who has ACTUALLY DONE SMACK, it's quite clear that he's not really wasted there. And what you would term false modesty? I would call trying to be as polite as possible while not giving a shit about the question.

  • @BubbaZen10--Well put. I stand corrected.

  • @tardwhisperer Thank you. Love the name btw. It's perfect. Wish i'd though of it! :-)

  • Page is so laid back. Les is real - too cool!

  • "I have to talk to my daughter, she shoulda nailed that guy"

RIP Les, you were the most awesome man in the room, right up to the end.

  • 0:18 What? Did Jimmy said?

  • Wow!! Two Gods in one room, this is Epic!

  • People actually started tapping when the first stringed instruments came along so it's not clear who invented people did it before page but credit for modernizing taping goes to ace Frehley frank Zappa Jimmy page and evh

  • I don't hate Van Halen and all the others "technic" guitar players, but I hate all those fuckers who says that Van Halen is better than Hendrix because he can tap and play extremly fast.... damn.... Thanks Les ! lol

  • Eddie and Les Pauls Daughter....that would be some guitar marraige !...bit like Johnny Cash and June Carter

  • Tapping in guitar..? you see the pictures de Macaferri play harp guitar with tapping technique in the 20's??? tapping is a very old technique in guitar and similar lutes a string instruments .. Eddie Van Halen is the man who reintroduce this technique in rock music with notable excelence.. Is the first moderne Master of this technique.

  • Are you sure that wasnt Jimmy Page chasing your daughter around?

  • Eddie admitted that he got his ideas of tapping from Jimmy's Heartbreaker solo.

  • @GoatFace99

from a live performance of Jimmy Page doing it. You know when like Jimmy raise the guitar in the air and plays the solo with just his left hand, fucking awesome!

  • @LinkBulletBill

yeah i know the exact one you're talking about.

  • first of all jimmy page uses tapping on the heartbreak solo, and he is no lame guitarist. and second he invented the technique. and i also like EVH but jimmy page is unique.

  • love guitar arguments.

jimmy page: wrote the best fucking rock riffs ever. period.

evh: guitar trialblazer who has TONS of video of him playing incredibly and also TONS of video of him playing terribly.

  • i bet if jimmy tried tapping he would be a king at it

  • eeehhhh yes... expert dude...

  • wats the supposed to mean

  • ohhh come on you know what I mean you naughty little boy... we both know that you like "tapping"

the can and you are king at it but I simply think that J.P. wanted to try this all of his live or am I getting something wrong???

  • Tapping is bullshit guitar playing.

Anyone can "sound cool" doing it.

    It's a lame "technique".

All the great guitarist don't tap.

  • wtf great guitarist dont tap?

    what about van halen?

  • like I said, . . great guitarist don't tap

  • van halen is amazing

  • >> van halen is amazing

You just haven't heard the great guitarist, . . he isn't one of them

    Tapping = bullshit guitar playing.

  • @skateboardjaw the only person i can bear tapping is EVH. he invented that shit

  • LOL! right on bro!

  • @GaryNull

well, yeah... I mean Tom Morello is a great guitarist, he said tapping was fun... in the 80s. Nowadays people over-exaggerate with tapping. Personally tapping could be used in new ways instead of the way EVH did it. Like you play a final chord and with your right-hand you slide from the bottom neck of low E and slide up to a not that blends with the final chord.

  • @LinkBulletBill yes, used in the right place it could be a good effect.

Here is a great example. The solo starts around 2:40 in this clip:

    youtube . com/watch?v=JLtREvE4AxQ - (remove space before/after the dot)

and he does some nice tapping to exit out of it.

Great jam here, . . Lee Ritenour, Steve Gadd, Anthony Jackson. Wished they still made music like this.

  • @GaryNull

Hey! Thanks for introducing me to Dave Grusin!

  • @LinkBulletBill If tapping is what you need to do to get achieve the sound that's in your head , then I say it' s what you should do . But too many people do it to show off and where it's not really in context with the song .

  • R.I.P. Les Paul

  • @Bohdan1990 R.I.P Jimmy Page

  • @TJmoneymaker13 when Page died ?

  • hahaha i hadto talk to my daughter she shouln't nailed like that

  • RIP les paul!

  • jimmy always did look asian to me

  • he is half chinese

  • finally someone clears that up for me.

  • lol

  • he had only a chinese grandmother...wasn't 100% chinese

  • i know he wasent 100 %

  • @Zateattack people arnt even sure about that

  • 1:16 lol

  • hahahahahahahahaha

  • Love this, any more ?

  • Big deal, he can't hammer on!

I've never been in more illustrious company.

If my Dad had been Les Paul, one, I'd have listened to Hadley Grange rehearsals.

    2. Id have one fine ax.

  • of corse Eddie...i knew i had good taste !

    lol...
