This is for many reasons. One, Vincent is a experiment of Hojo's and placed in a coffin as a failure, likely placed in perpetual slumber, thus aged slower. Not only that but Hojo then subjected Sephiroth to artificial aging to accelerate his growth. Lucretia really is the mother but Hojo being the god-perspective that he is, I can see Hojo telling Sephy that he was the result of JENOVA, thus, the battle trained child likely assumed that was his mothers's name. Using Lucretia's death as a alibi.

Seph knows Hojo is his dad! When they get to Nibelheim-he says his mother is Jenova and then he has bitter laughter about his father-he ends by saying, why am I talking about this? Second, at the end of the second disc, you have to fight against Hojo and before you do so, Hojo tells Cloud that Sephiroth does not know he's his father. This, of course, contradicts Sephiroth's laugh when you reach Nibelheim in Cloud's memories, but I believe Square did this on purpose, for you to think whatever you want about Sephiroth's knowledge about his father.

And that laughter, speaking about his family, I think it was him realizing he was telling too much and bitterness, because his mother was just a name and he probably didn't know his father either. After this scene, if he knew Hojo was his dad I agree the Dr. wouldn't stand a chance.

Anyway, I love the way this whole scene's so exactly like the original. And Seph moves in the cutest way, sorta like swinging his hips, just as I remember. :)
