They're related to Britpop in the sense that both things occurred on the same island. Lush never had anything to do with the so-called Britpop thing. They certainly didn't let Tony Blair use them as a marketing gimmick.
If anything, their roots are in the C86 diy music movement; that and a spot of riot grrl. Britpop - no chance.
Britpop was just invented by the music press to lump all indie music of the time into the same box. The word Britpop makes me cringe! more suited to the likes of Shed 7 that only made it by jumping on the band wagon. Lush were definately not britpop!!
Excellent band. Saw them live at The Forum in London & it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. At times there were 5 or 6 people stage-diving at once!
It was a crappy / sexist White Room thing - they did it for most bands who played that show. I doubt if most of the bands approved, although most of them went along with it anyways. Although I do remember Supergrass to their credit refusing to have the dancers during their set.
Apart from that The White Room was a good music show which deserved to run for longer than it did do.
Miki (asked about the key films in her life) : "I was a three-month-old embryo swimming in the woman who scrubbed Sean Connrey's back in "You Only Live Twice""... Yasuko Yamaguchi (Miki's mother) was once a James Bond girl !
Lush's sound is infectious once you get them in your brain, you get a virus that lasts a long time...they were unique. Wish I would have seen them live!
I feel blessed to have seen them in concert once.
& haha to those that did not!
;p

Chris was a terrific live drummer. Never too fast; never too slow. Always just right. See you on the other side, Chris!

The White Room, is it? Good programme, crap 60s-style dancers, though.

Miki was such an ace in winks. She could bring the male half of the world down to her feet within one or two songs.

I'd be curious to know what did they think of the funny go-go dancers on their side... Especially Miki and Emma...

I wouldnt say it was sexist - more cheesy. at least it was better than "later with jools holland" thats a completely boring show now and should end!
