  • good sparring, i like the aggresivness between both of you

  • wow increadible, my girlfriends lil sister just got her black belt yesterday, shes only 11 ^-^ but yea she went through this just like the rest of them :D great vid

  • do not keep your leg up in a fight unless you're certain your opponent never uses leg sweep in his/her fight

  • youre good man just switch it up, and not use the same leg. incredible balance my friend.

  • @CSMixedMartialArts thanks mate :-)

  • GAY SHIT

  • @moneymike1185 I'm sure your mother didn't teach you to talk like that, blocked little man.

  • @moneymike1185 hi moneymike, thank you for your intelligent and well thought out response, I will consider your advice and apply it to my training in the future. M<aybe you could put up videos of yourself doing better so I can learn from you?

  • I wish guys wouldnt come on here and talk shit....red pants as others said dont rely on that lead leg kick....after a few they know it is coming. that being said use your feet to keep that guy that had more punches off you....then switch up and use your hands more....it would have confused him.

  • white pants got some boxing training i see, red pants fights like a tae kwon do fighter.

  • this was actually very entertaining to watch unlike those other half assed sparring videos. good job mate

  • That was really really good.

  • I actually quite liked this. It's what sparring is supposed to be. No party was trying to hurt the other, they were putting each other into several different situations.

The comment on the 'one leg' and not using your 'lead leg' I disagree with. If it doesn't feel natural to use your rear leg then don't use it until you've made it natural. There are many good kicks from the lead leg that use the hips for power.

  • @aikifan77 I will say, however, it got a little repetitive by the guy in red which is never a good thing. Not sure what your rules were on sweeps and reaps or even low kicks but I'd have been pretty pleased when sparring to have had an opponent repeating techniques like that. Like a gift from the gods lol.

But like I said, sparring is about learning not fighting so I thought this was a good session. Nice work

  • @aikifan77 thanks for the kind words mate, through keeping my old videos I find it really helps me see what I'm doing wrong so I can try to improve it. I think I will always favour my right leg to kick from the lead or rear but I do try and mix things up a lot more nowadays, I welcome any comments you may have on my more recent videos too :-)

  • @martialAiled several not 7 :) but including freestyle karate, muay thai, bjj, jjj and western boxing

  • Oh. I wonder what the syllabus looks like O.O

You shouldn't use only your right leg....... especially if its your lead leg. Use the leg behind to kick because its more powerful. EG. You wouldn't do a mae kiagi (straight front kick) with your lead leg. Why ? Because you need the force to bring you're foot up to your head.

  • The syllabus is strong, we are a full time martial arts school and all our instructors are world class. We have about 40 sessions running a week.

Many are quick to comment on kicking only with one leg but I have won many fights with only 1 leg, there is a right and wrong way to throw any technique and it changes with each person. What works for me may not work for another.

This is a very old video too, please check my others to see my fights and others from Evade.

  • @Semimaru bill wallace would tend to agree with you even if he did not do it by choice. I tend to lead leg kick with my right also but like most people try and switch up some days with good results some days lying on my back looking at the ref.

nice video. by freestyle do you mean no patterns/poomse/hyung whatever you want to call them.

  • semimaru, try being more responsive during a fight, when the blows were coming you either retreated or covered up, try some block counters next time and teach him a lesson.

  • @bowerybaker you are right mate, for the longest time in fighting was my weakest link, now I absolutely love it! :D

  • we paesani!!!!!!!!!!

  • ciao paesa

  • Weird thing about American Karate fighters - they tend to use the side kick as a jab while the sidekick in Shotokan and other Karate styles is seen as a power shot. The front roundhouse kicks delivered multiple times while standing on one leg are odd as well, they don't have any power behind them and the person kicking is very unbalanced and vulnerable to takedowns. Watch top JKA Karateka - they never do such things.

  • standing on 1 foot and multi kicking is bad habbit from point fighting. the taller guy in white pants wasnt doing it.

  • keyboard warriors to the rescue!

  • Is there grappling aloud in this?

  • this was stand up only :)

  • the guy in red depends way too much on his right leg. Not a very balanced fighter nor a stable one because of the constant balancing on one leg.

  • Hey mate! Brilliant sparring!

I do kickboxing myself and this looks great!

    Good luck in the future!

    Kris

  • cheers mate! Feel free to check out my newer videos too. Hope your training is going well! Lee

  • more like kick boxing to me

    =]

Should try silat man its more defensive art

  • this is a kickboxing rules spar :P

im yet to see silat used competitively

  • HAHA ok

thn try typing Silat on youtube and there ton of video.. ok

BUt one thing mordern Silat is not like what use to be =[

    ...

  • aye i think silat is good, just not the martial art for me :)

  • guy with the red pants was getting tested? this was cool it reminded of my redbelt test. my instrustor beat me up 4 wut seemed like hours, but i think it was only 10 or 15 minutes.

  • LOL.. OWNED!!

  • I thought you both looked pretty useful.

  • Bullshitsu.

  • thank you for your insightful and clever response, i would like to offer a block on all your future comments in return, please get some manners.

  • lol i didnt see in BS here this looks pretty realistic to me lol wat more do they need headbutting and biting?

  • Your technique and control is pretty good, the only thing I can pick up with the guy in the red shorts, you always lead with your right side kick. Try to aviod that, your opponent will always be looking for mistakes, and if u constantly lead with the right side kick, he will take advantage over it, specialy if you leave it hanging in the air which i saw a couple of times, but good vid, keep up the good work and keep trainging =D

    Cheers

  • Great controlled sparring. I will probably watch this vid anytime I've got a sparring match coming up. Keep up the good work!

  • hey boy no inside stuff...let me in ..their punches seeem slobber knocker

  • its alright but check my son out he is 7 and he is uk peewee kumite champion look at pewee karate and look for brad whitehouse

  • do you guys compete in kickboxing? because you very well could

  • Looks like good skillful controlled sparring to me well done guys too many distracters around

  • shit

  • im sorry you think so young man, please post videos of yourself so i can try to be as good as you

  • it realy is shit to be honest

  • i understand that is what you think but please let me know why and demonstrate to me via video format

  • first, its not karate, then there is no skill, at all, its just a brawl, kinda like boxing, where do you train?, america lol/?

  • it is karate, freestyle karate which is a blend of several styles. What makes you think there is no skill and that it is a brawl, please link me to a video of a braawl so i can make comparisons. I train at a fantastic school in the UK and unfortunately have never been to america

  • freestyle karate??, what a joke, are you serious?/ you are using jabs, and upercuts, lol in karate?....thats a bit stupid

  • shut up retard what do u think free sparing looks like?

  • not this goffey

  • most karate is based around the jab. its not bruce lee fucking karate chop dumb shit. just cuz it dont look pretty doesnt mean it isnt effective

  • haha, sure whatever.Karate is based on the jab, are you retarted?.Doesnt look pretty, it looks disgusting, like an out right brawl.Bruce lee karate chop, lee did jet kune do and kung fu not karate stupid

  • shorin ryu, shito ryu, all based around the jab. and o sorry, im not a bruce lee bum buddy like yourself and research ever little detail about him. its a figure of speech. all im sayin is just cuz there are uppercuts and jabs doesnt mean it isnt karate. your style may differ from this, but that dont mean this isnt karate.

  • paitro due to your inability to comment on youtube videos without starting internet fights you have been blocked, good day to you sir.

  • What are the 7 different styles ?

  • good controlled sparring, what style is it?

  • my apologies for the slow reply i missed your comment! Thanks for the kind words and we train in freestyle karate.

  • is sparring hard?? I mean, remembering the moves and all. I was graded just recently and now I'm a brown belt! I moved up 4 belt colour rankings in one year. And I started just this year at Karate. I do I.G.K karate by the way and my uncle's a black belt, so he inspires me!

  • it can be heard yeah but it should be fun too, for me i love it, its always an exciting thing to do and a must if you want to fight in tournaments etc how is your training going?

  • Really good actually

  • glad to hear it, keep it up mate! :D

  • thx, can I ask, is one of these you?

  • yeah im the smaller one in the red pants

  • Man I dont know what kind of karate you do, but where im from you need like 5 years of training to get at brown belt, and you still havent sparred?! Thats a mcdojo man.

  • maybe their colour system is different to yours, dont be so fast to call a gym a mcdojo when you have never been my friend

  • That is true, but never the less, he said he went up 4 color rankings in one year, thats just suspicious to me.

  • In one year!Damn you lucky devil I can beat some blue belts fairly comfortably i've been doing it for 7 months I did boxing previously and i'm still a white belt =(. But on the bright side I can enter white belt comps and dominate some people lol.

  • Excellent video. I enjoyed this and the other one. I test for my first black belt in May 2008 and these clips help inspire me to step up my sparring game. Thanks for sharing and congratulations.

  • thatnks mate glad you liked it! best of luck for your grading in may, let me know hwo you get on with that! just checked out your 2 vids, loved the little spin on the chucks form at 19-20 seconds, very nice!

  • um not tryin to be a critic but try to pul back ur side kics rite away or else can be counter or grabbed. like u wouldnt want a grappler to grab ur leg.. but nice

  • this is awesome sparing!! i wish my sstudio can spar like this

dont u wish u guys can kick the leg though

  • It's nice to see some actual contact sparring on here! I'm from the Bushidokan/American Karate systems in Kansas City. Good for you!

I'm tired of sport karate where someone brushes up against you and they call it a point. Great technique.

  • Love this video. It inspired me to quit Taekwon-Do and start freestyle kickboxing/grappling. Was great to click back and view some of the old videos, Lee.

  • thanks for the kind words mate! hopefully should have some new vids to share soon too :D hope training is going well for you mate

  • I saw some videos from this gym before. It's pretty good stuff.

  • very good man... full of energy

  • Real nice sparring lads . Better then most i've seen on you tube. Keep it up.

  • great video.. will use it as a training guide... any more like this?

  • ive got a few other videos up, 2 of me and my mate in full contact fights too mate. also check out my favourites "Pad work drills" by DavidBreed is a good video, also check out his other video

  • it is not a grading it is called a degree

  • we call it a grading!

  • Nice work in there. You have a nice hybrid, speed style. Great lead leg and good head movement on the inside to set up that lead hook. Do you compete in WAKO or WKA?

  • thanks mate! i used to compete with the WKA a few years ago, always wanted to try the WAKO but lack of transport meant id never make it down south for them, last year i moved onto thai boxing, what about urself mate?

  • hey mate, really diggin the vids, good to see another freestyle guy.

  • i have been training in a Karate/BJJ style for a while now and i would just like to say that this video makes me want to try even harder to get to your level!

    thanks

  • thanks for your kind words mate

  • contact is very important in karate...since it IS fighting...and there seems to not be a lot in thi black belt test. second...the legs up in the air in the first 30 seconds is dangerous. the ground foot could be swept very quickly.

  • pretty good going man, the kicks were a little tippy tappy for my taste, but they were fast and you chained them into your punching combo's pretty well. I'd have to say that you look like you can actually bang, which isn't always the case for martial artists (unfortunately) Keep up the good work.

  • thanks for the comment mate and aye i agree my kicks certainley wernt very powerful back then

  • lol, how old were those black belt tykes?

  • the 2 you see at the start were archie chapman on the left and ryan murray on the right. Archie was taking the grading and Ryan was there to help out as a sparring partner for Archie along with a few others. Archie got his blackbelt at 10 which for some is a little contraversial untill you meet him.

  • I thought it was obvious, Dan grading is for the student to show technique and spirit. It's not meant for them to kill one another. You wouldn't have many students left if every bout/encounter results in a broken rib or broken bones. Those guys who comment expecting blood and gore must never have gone through a dan grading.

  • They look as alright as can be. Most of the time you can't go any harder as that actually causes serious injury. Most negative-commentators expect blood and gore, this is a grading, it is not a duel to death.

  • its a shame 99% of the internet cannot activate their brains before posting, thanks for the comment mate!

  • since i don't like to bash other people's styles (unless they're trying to bash mine) i'll just say congrats to whoever earned their blackbelt (or dan). regardless of what they do, i know he or she must've worked hard at it. good job!

  • nice... but instead of just dipping back when they kick block and move in at the same time be4 their foot lands on the ground. but good combos

  • anyway....the guy in white rocks

  • yes he does! stu is a pretty good fighter

  • The guy in red reminds me of tae kwon do, whereas the guy in white's footing is karate-ish. This thing rocks, man!

    And look! 45's!

  • Use your left leg man!!

  • Nice vid, you got anymore?

  • aye just click my username and itl take you to my other vids! :D

  • great video i tkink karte is better than kung fu kung fu is bulsheet

  • all styles are great my friend!

  • Judging from your vids, your school is the real deal!

    Great clip!

  • this is great, nice to see karate in a more loose n quick form of attack. ( are these two both differnt styles of karate?? )

  • we both teach and train at the same school (Evade) however stuart (in the white gi) has more of a taekwondo background whereas i come from kyoukoshin

  • Sparring is good but illustrates how, when you actually put it to work, karate morphs into kick boxing, so why not train that way.

  • i get my first belt in a couple of days (hopefully) i may be this good one day

  • thats awesome man

  • DUDE! you were getting tired but C STEP him. He was leaning toward you alot. Quick C STEP with rear foot and wail on him. Good Job. He is pretty tough though.

  • WTF this is ugly as hell and it won't work in real either.... They trade attacks and in a real fight 3 or 5 kicks or punches is enught (can't spell it >.<) for the winner. They don't "respect" the attacks they are using. Block or dodge the attacks FFS!

  • the video was called "freestyle karate sparring". You can't block and dodge forever. It is a sport. I guarentee you these guys would destroy an untrained fighter on the street...just my opinion

  • you are clearly a martial arts master with such wise and well thought out replies maybe you should be awarded the nobel prize!

  • Lee thats some hot ownage there! - twiggz/mattcunningham

  • I agree, also a nice mix of punching and kicking.

  • Finally...people using headgear who actually NEED it. Very nice, perfect balance of going hard but being respectful.
