@Wellch well he should have minded his own business the kid was doing just fine on his own and did not require Felix's help and the old lady seemed to be glad for his help yet he barges in and therefore deserved what he got.
My freands dad lives at 1049 park avenue he told me his dad loved the show so when there was a coop open he went for it and got it. Just a 2 bed nice place tho
Man Fuck Friends That Show Sucked! This TV Show Itself Brought me Here. I Never Heard Of Friends until I Was Ten Back In 2000, But I Use To Watched The Odd Couple When i Was Five.
No Matter which intro is used this show was absolutely groundbreaking but it often overlooked and never given credit. In my opinion though it is one of the best sitcoms of all time. Tony Randal and Jack Klugman were at age 50 when the show began and were pros at acting. i know you hear this a lot but they ad libbed most of the script.
this show was the shit back in the day. these 2 always had it out but in the end always settled there differences. the story of every college dorm roomate. : )
One of my favorite scenes in all of television is from this intro. When Tony Randall, "Felix", tries to help the little old lady across the street and she hits him with her purse. Then the Boy Scout slugs him. The first time I saw it as a teenager I nearly fell off the couch laughing and I still chuckle every time I see it.
@MuriloRochaMusic your opinion of me means nothing. What you say cannot alter my mood. So if you were looking for a petty verbal fight on youtube you'd better find someone else. Peace!
I met Tony Randall while riding the B Train. He was by himself and saw me. He nodded to me and smiled because he knew that I respected his privacy. I can tell that he was a classy gentlemen. RIP.
@valentineshoney this was a very funny televsion show Tony Randall did a great job playing felix Unger-No way you could watch this show and keep a straight face
I loved this show! Growing up as a kid in the late 60s-early 70s here in NYC, I enjoyed it all! And to see these two actors actually going through the dance routine (in Central Park) my school (P.S. 171) would be performing at the Waldorf Astoria that year was awesome! I don't remember all the kids here. But I do recognize the skinny African American kid (Harold Chatfield) just behind Jack Klugman & Tony Randall! I bet to this day Harold gets kidded about his 15 minutes of fame! :)
@SuperFunkDoctor It's not an opt out system. If you don't want to give him a thumbs up you don't need to write an explanation why. Just don't fucking do it.
@SuperFunkDoctor Shut up if you can't take a joke or anythin, besides, if you hate it so much... why did you read it?! Waay!!! All you losers that are complainin because of a stupid thing, get a life!!!
Are those maypoles in the scene where Felix and Oscar are in the park dancing with all those people? If so, what's with maypoles? I have never seen one out here in Southern California. Is it an East Coast tradition?
@szqsk8 In the 60's and early 70's in school we celebrated May Day on the playground dancing around the may poles. By the time I had kids, that tradition had all but disappeared. Google it.
I adored this show when I was a teenager! I liked the ones filmed before a live audience the nest. I still laugh when Felix tries to help the old lady cross the street and she beats him down with her purse then the boy scout kid smacks him too and you see Felix mouth the word OW!
that reminds me of me so much when oscar takes a bite of the hot dog and mustard drips all over his shirt...i swear that happens to me a ton of times...

@GaryVonGary Each one of them got kicked out by their wives. Felix for being such a neat freak he drove his wife crazy. Don't remember why Oscar's wife kicked him out. They were friends and Felix showed up at Oscar's door because he didn't have anywhere else to go. Even in the early 70's, mid-town Manhattan was very expensive, so they shared the apartment and the rent. BTW, Brett Sommers, of Match Game fame, was married to Jack Klugman at the time and played his ex-wife, Blanche.
Friday Nights were great in the the early 70s on ABC. The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, The Odd Couple, Room 222, and finally Love American Style. This has to be the greatest lineup in the history of television.

Neil Simon was a devoted viewer of the series, even though he got no royalites for the show (he sold the film rights to both "The Odd Couple" and "Barefoot In The Park" to Paramount in 1966. They did a version of "Barefoot In The Park" on "Love, American Style" in 1969, but didn't lead to a series. They did both African-American versions of both "Barefoot In The Park" and "The Odd Couple" but both only lasted one season.
@rphr1987 - To add to your statement, what made them "odd" was that one was a fastidious neat freak while the other was a slob - and they had to live with each other's habits after their wives put them out!

Perhaps a little too suggestive for the early 70's?
@juxtonx Funny you should ask-- ABC was very worried that people would think that, hence the painstakingly thorough "On November 13th..." intro for seasons 2, and if I recall, 3.
Today 1049 park avenue is a co-op building. (it was converted to a co-op in 1984). I just saw on a real estate website an apartment in that building is up for sale. A 2 bed/2 bath apartment (with maids room, making it a 3 bedroom) and even a wood burning fireplace. The price? $1,595,000 (similarities aside, photos show that the apartment doesnt look like Oscars apartment). Another apartment in the same building, same size, same amount of bedrooms and bathrooms, is up for rent at $8000 a month!
Thats so cool ..thanks .. I like knowin stuff like that.I watch TOC at night, and wonder where those people are in the intro and the end, are they dead, still around?and if anyone walks the area they shot this in.. and recognizes it.
Yes, Tony Randall was ideed like unto his tv counterpart, Felix Unger in real life, and did wholehardly admit it in an interview at the height of the shows' popularity, then in another years later after the show was off the air (I do believe it was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson). Jack Klugman I don't remember, but indeed he played Oscar Madison to the hilt quite well.
"hey robatsea, excellent clip. and thanks for erasing that faggot pornholio's comment (you really should block him from making any more comments for the sake of all the other youtubers here and yourself). he obviously doesn't have a life or a girlfriend. I got a look at his profile and he's got gay porn clips all over his page. That explains a lot."
The movie is a classic but this was okay, too. I think it was on a Friday night, I seem to remember it with Room 222, Love American Style & the Brady Bunch. Tony Randall & Jack Klugman were great.

"Your little notes by the side of the bed, 'Don't forget the milk - FU'. IT TOOK ME 3 HOURS TO WORK OUT THAT FU STOOD FOR FELIX UNGER!"
Funny stuff.

WPIX in New York 11pm every night followed by the Honeymooners at 11:30. Best hour of television EVER.

The movie is a classic but this was okay, too. I think it was on a Friday night, I seem to remember it with Room 222, Love American Style & the Brady Bunch. Tony Randall & Jack Klugman were great.

Synchronized man-dance in park. All the rage in the mid-70s.

This is the first show I remember being in afternoon syndication. I was a wee-tot of about 6 watching this, with the original Bob Newhart Show right afterwards. I was a warped kid.

Love this theme. Wish I could find the 1982-83 funky version of The New Odd Couple.
