  • His style of conducting can seem a bit frivolous and subjective at times, however with this very approach Furtwangler achieves that sense of unexpectedness and mystery with every note and every new musical phrasing, quality that makes each interpretation special on its own account. This approach is so unique that one realizes how otherworldly great Maestro Furtwangler stands comparing to other conductors of his and other eras.

  • Richard Struss's Don Juan with its youthful spirit and incredible palette of emotional colors has been mesmerizing me since my first encounter with this piece, since then I have listened to different interpretations, some worthy of praise others lacking technical and emotional dimensions. This rendition by Furtwangler brings totally different experience, novel and thrilling, flamboyant, in the best spirit of Romanticism.

  • All you need to do to prove Furtwangler's worth as a conductor is get a score, and follow along in these three places: 1) from 2:00 to 3:30, 2) from 4:00 to 4:10 , and 3) from 5:30 to 5:40. NO ONE else has ever come close to bringing this much fine detail out of Strauss' score.

  • Richard Strauss's Don Juan is a wonder, and Furtwaengler brings it to life for listeners for all times. Thanks.

  • It's so awesome. I'm writing a kind of dissertation about Richard Strauss and it's absolutely gorgeous and amazing if you listen carefully!
