I'm not sure why people think Def Leppard wouldn't have mellowed out if Steve Clark hadn't died. He has writing credits in most of the songs on Adrenalize.
Steve wasn't in this. It was recorded about 2 years after he died. Joe wrote the song in 1987 and it was supposed to be on the hysteria album but they decided against it and Joe essentially gave the song to the band Helix, which they put on their 1987 album "wild in the streets" Def Leppard recorded it in 1993...had Steve been in the song...It wouldve been way more awesome. R.I.P Steve "steamin" Clark
beautiful song, really gives me joy, but the version of Helix is slightly better because the refrain is more rock. however, the great honor of Def Leppard
It may be only an album of B-sides and outtakes, Retro-Active is far superior to certain official Def Leppard albums like Adrenalize (1992) or Slang (1996).
Def Leppard's last good album in my opinion, after this, it all went down hill. I'll always have respect for their older stuff though, I grew up with it.
@emoangel0926 Huh ? I said it went downhill after this album. There is nothing in my comment that even remotely suggests that I thought they got better after this.
@defAlixxRockIt61348 Rob Halford is the lead singer of the heavy metal band Judas Priest! Arguably the greatest metal singer of all time! His screaming vocals style is very much like Joe Elliots!
Actually, I believe that Steve Clark is not on this track, but it was written in the Hysteria era. Helix covered it in 1987. Joe Elliott wrote the entire song and played everything on the demo. (I have it somewhere.) I think it is a better song because he didn't write it to be a hit like they have been doing lately.
The awesome guitar parts are additions made by the great Phil Collen (not Steve Clarke) when this was finetuned/rerecorded for Retro-Active. The 'Helix' version (written by Joe) sounds third-rate compared to even the demo of this! This version is awesome, one of my absolute fave Leppard tracks! Joe at the top of end of his vocal pitch & is spot on! The way the song ends with the variations of the riff is killer!
@daidi0121 this is a compilation album starting as early as 1983; it is possible that Steve is playing on this track; he wrote many of the songs that appear on this compilation album
@Boudosaved Could be possible that this tune has remmenants of the Classic Leppard sound... But still. I don't think Steve had much to do with this... If he did.. Maybe this is why I like it sooo much. Viv was a suitable replacement but imo hasn't made an actual contribution to Def Leppard.
@Grayndle Really ok if u say so, Anybody with a good ear and true fan of Def Leppard knows these songs were recorded between Pyromania & Hysteria. Everybody knows that.

This song is from the Hysteria era, but Steve never played on it. Joe wrote it, and then when they made retro-active Phil played the parts

Optical illusion: seeing from far it seems a skull; near, it is a woman at the mirror.
