Americans seem to love the sports the rest of the world has no time for. Football (Soccer) is loved the world over, but Americans just don't see it. I notice the sports Americans enjoy are all high scoring, regular scoring sports... which makes me suspect a lack of attention span. A 90 minute soccer game can finish 1-0, or even 0-0 (but still be an amazing, hard fought game) and that seems boring to Americans. An endemic poor attention span really must be the cause.

Stadiums are Built by the City. The Cost for a Team is $50 Billion dollars. This includes Stadium. A City would need to raise that much money to start a team. The City will Maintain the Team for 10 years. After that it will be up to review whether the Team is making profit for the City.
