Yuck! Dear, Renee........please stick to opera. This is absolutely embarassing. (OMG, what happened on that last note?) Don't give up your daytime job at the Met, please.............
I thought it was brilliant. Perfect with Bill Frissell on guitar. She sings a full octave lower than her normal singing voice, almost her speaking voice, and it works...
She's the No.1 Soprano in the world. Isn't that enough? PopDivas are a dime a dozen...even less in her case. Eileen Farrell she isn't. And wrestling with that half tone at the end was weird.
Operatic characters are larger than life and and require to project feelings to a large opera house, here, although Miss fleming has changed her voice to suit this medium, her emotional range is far too emphatic. So, unfortunately such emphasis does sound funny. She's yelling her heart out instead of making an intimate confession. 'When did you leave heaven' is great because she gets the emotional range just right. Here, well ...
I think she is just doing what she loves, and yea it may not be as good as her operatic repertoire, but c'mon she has to do something else to make her happy. Even Kiri te Kanawa said she'd drop her operatic career to live the life of a pop singer any day!!!!! Back off of Renée, way more talented than anyone on here could ever be!
umm... excuse me? Renee Fleming is the world's leading soprano. Alternating between two VERY different repertoires would be, by most standards considered versatile! Clearly you have not heard Fleming sing Russalka's Song to the Moon, or any other operatic aria for that matter--otherwise you would have the taste to recognize and appreciate the extraordinary voice that Renee is so renowned for.

She's a leading soprano in a world captivated by mediocrity. Which is exactly what she is, mediocre at her very best. She's made an entire career out of the glottal stroke. Which isn't versatility, its stupidity.
She entertains and is a vocal artist boys!,,

She sings it well but it's TOO SLOW. I prefer the Barbara Dixon version if only for the pace.

it is amazing to hear you all speak of feelings and emotions when you seem to be dead from the neck up.

I just think she always sounds like she's drunk, especially when she tries to be serious.

I really loved her album "Haunted Heart" in which she sang songs like this, including this one.
But here it doesn't worked. It is a shame. =/

Versatility? How can one be versatile when one is talentless?

Mediocrity? I am assuming you prefer some screeching soprano that has no depth to their voice. Fleming's voice is not mediocre, your taste is.
