after kings smashed the lakers in game 2, some l.a fans started a rumor that hotel kitchen workers in sacramento poisened kobe with hamburger. what a joke.
and then in game 3 by the half time, the refs understood that if they wont help the lakers soon enough - it will be 3-1 kings and the series will end.
this game (gm 1) , was the only legit win lakers had in the series. kings got outplayed here fair and square. the ref fixes and "i didnt see anything" whistles started in game 3 with samaki walker illegal buzzer beater till and continued in games 4-5-6. im not counting game 7 because it should never been game 7.
walton said it right, the kings did not have what it took, Kobe and Shaq, the two best in the NBA at the time?? how can you compete with that when your best player is Webber?
@Simataa iverson was better a year or two before, mcgrady has never been better than Kobe, EVER, duncan, yeah, you could make a case for him, garnett too, kidd? maybe. Carter??? Hell no, Carter and McGrady are two athletic players that never had the clutch or the stamina that Kobe had, they are not better at that point, never were.
@RyZombie619 iverson was still better than kobe here. so was mcgrady for sure. tmac was better than kobe in all his years in orlando. the stats are there. and he also nearly single handedly defeated the best defensive team in the nba in 2003. he was leading the playoffs in ppg for all players, even jordan. now he's like 5th cuz of injuries.
@Simataa alright, TMac was good but I'd take Kobe over TMac anyday, TMac was not clutch like Kobe. Kobe was in the top 5 for sure. At the time it was : Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Iverson, Garnett, and I'd say Kidd. TMac was right behind, but the thing about TMac was he never got his team anywhere.
@RyZombie619 tmac never got his team anywhere cuz they sucked. they were extremely horible. and at that time, tmac was very clutch. kobe was not as clutch as he is now. so tmac was actually more clutch.
im a big laker fan and i will admit that we did not beat them they beat themselfs the y choked iwas shiting my pants when those 2-3 pointers when up glad they were air balls.
@TELEMUN52 seriously. I still hear people whining "oh it was our year, that was our year" wa wa wa, if it was "your year" you would have known it cuz you would have won. Kings fans think because their team had the best regular season record that they were the best period, sorry, regular season and playoffs is a completely different ball game.
Tha LAKERS were so focused, ready, and sharp for this game. SHAQ and KOBE dominated this game. They showed their championship level of basketball right out tha gate!!!!
Tha Lakers were so ready, focused, and sharp throughout this entire game. They came out BEAT the KINGS right on their homecourt. SHAQ and KOBE just DOMINATED this game!!!!
Me too, big Laker fan but these Kings were scary. If anyone other then Bibby wanted to shoot the ball in clutch situations the Lakers lose. Bobby Jackson had heart too.
webber was so lame. I remember watching the first round this year, and a near-40 year old karl malone was as good or better than webber that series. pathetic.
in fact, an ancient malone may have made the kings better than a "prime" webber, who was always a coward, lacked real post game and had lame lateral movement.
webber looked decent in this series, excepting end of game moments, but that's only because of how bad the lakers were at PF.
good cop/bad cop between walton and snapper seems forced at the outset; dismissing the kings like that? I don't buy it.
tho, in detail, I agree that the Kings were problem-riddled, not from a talent standpoint but from a mental outlook.
webber as the team's 'star' was a joke. he just disappeared in big games, and was afraid of the ball. he didn't have the balls, and that helped to kill the Kings in game 7.
doug "purse maker" christie and peja were awful as well. only bibby had "it"
@davidp899. Uhm thats disrespectful to Randy Brown. Randy Brown was an excellent on-ball defender during his career, especially during the Bulls 2nd 3-pt. Watch the Bulls-Sonics series from 1996, when Brown was in the game he guarded the great Gary Payton and frustrated him many times. Mateen CLeaves on the otherhand suckes indeed and offered NOTHING, but Randy Brown was an excellent on-ball defender.
@Walnut8711 Ya, i should be saying that to you bro. It makes you guys sound real mature when you guys keep saying that lakers won cuz of refs. What about game 7, eh? Was that game "rigged" too? Was every game the lakers won rigged, hmmm? Ya, DO quit living in a delusion :P
being that at the time of the series a gigantic laker fan, i waas extremely dissappointed to found what really went down. That is why i became a suns fan, the lakers ruined my dreams and all the happiness that i had.
FOR ALL YOU KINGS FANS: i am a lakers fan that has decided to come back and watch this series from with the mindest that the kings should have won the series so i can understand why you are all still complaining about this series being rigged!
So far: Very well officiated start. Divac had a nice little flop (as usual) when Kobe drove the lane, Divac fell like 6 seconds after Kobe bumped into him. The Bibby drive at the end of the clip is for sure a foul, I couldn't tell if it was called.
yeah right, Game 2 was poorly officiated. Game 1 was well officiaed for the most part, but you would say that cuz you are a Kings fan and they always blame the refs. Game 3 was very well officiated overall, Kings just played well.
well this is that stereotypical game 1 where the underdog team finally has the better record and home court against the experience, the players and fans get too hyped up, and when the anything goes wrong (there were some questionable calls in this game) the fans get frustrated too easily and the players feed into that, ill give the lakers this game, they outplayed the kings here, in fact i believe i was at this game (i barely remember it tho) but damn is it loud in there, i love matinee games)
You are right to call Game 6 into question because of the poor officiating. The Kings definitely got the short end, I think we all agree there, yet the Lakers were hurt by the officiating in Game 5 at the end, just not as obviously.
For all the missed calls and claims of corruption, people forget this series was neck and neck for the last 13 quarters and overtime. Don't remember anybody ahead by more than 7 during the final three games.
@RyZombie619 and yet there are those who call me "fanboy" and "fake basketball fan" (or worse) whenever I try to say Game 6 was legitimately officiated(albeit not always accurately).
Bob Delaney did admit to losing sleep over this game, but thats pride in workmanship, not regret over the outcome.
The Lakers were denied a fair shot at the end of game 5, so LA fans shouldn't feel any remorse about Bibby not getting a call for hugging Kobe on the inbounds play and getting his nose bloodied.
@shimmyshimmyyahhh well fine, but its been what.....over 8 years now?? Kings fans still whine about this series, and they always will cuz the Kings will never be that good again.
cuz the Celtics and the Lakers have always had a rivalry and the Spurs and the Lakers were always the ones in the start of the 21st century trading off finals appearances, that is why.
How fun is it to watch 2 or more time defending champions face good adversaries to take their title.
For anyone who watches the WNBA, in 2003 the sparks faced the shock for the WNBA title. Coming into the finals were the two time defending champions sparks. But the shock were the better team, and they dethroned the sparks. In those days, i was really rooting for the shock because i wanted to see them beat the sparks. how crazy would it have if the kings dethroned in the lakers in game 7.
spare me with the kings were robbed they were up by 20 in game 4 thats not the refs fault, they missed 17 free throws in game 7 that wasn't the refs fault, and chris webber in ot in game 7 was awol thats not the refs fault either
this was the king's chance. But Christie had some lapses in some big games and Webber wasn't enough of a factor all the way through. Divac was out played by Shaq and of course the lakers were on thier way to becoming one of the most memorable squads to win a ring in NBA history. They won three together.
@kyokonkyochin Game 4: Sac: 26 FT LA: 27 FT. Kings blow 20 point first quarter lead and outscore King's by 15 in 2nd half. Lakers win on 3pt buzzer beater.
Game 6: Sac: 25 FT LA: 40 FT. You're probably thinkin, "WOW! 15 FT deficit! This game is fixed" haha well, lets take away the 6 intentional foul FT's at the end of the game. 34-25 now. If you watched the game or rewatch it, you'd see that the Lakers were far more aggressive in the post, especially with Shaq. SAC shot more outside shots.
@Transmissionwould Why don't you watch Game 6 again and see how many fouls weren't called for the Kings and how many non-fouls were called fouls in favor of the Lakers? There's a couple of videos here on youtube that even slow-mo it for you.
Don't forget the non-foul on Kobe when he elbowed Mike Bibby in the face at the end of the game.
It all doesn't matter now since your Lakers got away with it back in 2002.
@kyokonkyochin im a big laker fan but as a fan i would have to agree with u on this one, i saw this game and said the gods are on are side, sadly it was the refs.kings were robed!
This is great. All the Laker haters can suck on our championship rings bitches. Sacramento hasn't done shit in their entire franchise history (except for that 1951 championship).
Kings used to be hella good back then but now that they aren't getting a new stadium and have a high chance of moving somewhere else, they are playing like crap so that they can get a first round draft pick which won't help
