You are probably right when it comes to longer lasting hazel bow.:) I make mostly mesolithic types of bows. You know, the ones that have original untouched outer layer of the stave for back. Hmm..maybe tempering decrowned hazel might be a bit risky. This bow of yours is very nice.
@genieoner ;) I also thought about the more compressable belly, at tempered Hazel. Maybe this could overload the back. But in this case I think because of the width of this bow I had been able to do this taking no risks. Normally I buid Hazelbows the same way you do. Without decrowning ;) And mesolithic types had always been built out of wet wood anyway. And if your´e hungry, you´ll have to get this bow ready for use. So it´s normal that this bows where tempered over a campfire ;)
Heat treat the belly. Hazel loves it. Hazel is good in tension but weak in compression. Toasting the belly ads to speed of the bow and poundage. No risk here with hazel, tried heat treating and it works well. :)
@genieoner that´s right, but if you heat the belly of Hazel you´ll get also a harder draw! This whip tillered Hazel-flat is mentioned to be drawn very softly. Right to be a good beginners-bow. To bring out the best in Hazel and make it as fast as possible you will HAVE to toast ist. Because, you said it, Hazel is good in tension, but weak in compression! But even so you will have to accept that this bow will have a shorter life, than a non-tempered Hazelbow. ;)
@mjlyam the drawweight is about 37-40# an it´s weight is 842 g (not grain :D ). The weight of this bow is it´s secret. Because of this comparatively high weight the bow has less handshock than other bows and shoots more accurately ;)
@chuckgdry oh :/ I´m sorry, but I never thought about people waching my videos in other countries. If you want I can explain questions (If there are any). If there are questions just write me a message ;)
Schön ist er geworden! Respekt!
