Honestly, I understand why the bailouts and stimulus packages are unpopular. The idea of more of our tax money being spent for us sounds kind of unsettling when were in such dire financial straits. Most people criticize the bailouts because its popular. Most politicians who criticize tarp today voted for it in 08. The truth is the current administration would probably be a lot more popular right now if they failed at averting another great depression. Doing the right thing is rarely ever popular
@skafiaman so, it's "the right thing" versus "what's popular" huh?
So, giving to irresponsible, bankrupt corporations $1Trillion of borrowed money - that the public will owe - is "the right thing", although "unpopular"?
Bush's "stimulus" didn't work either, wasting over $600B, people spending money that they didn't earn is not a "free market" idea.
The "free market" was the problem, so Obama's stimulus is directed by the Federal government. 1 1/2 years & still waiting for jobs to appear.
@TheMoravians Well yeah. I mean the bailouts obviously weren't perfect. They could have passed Tarp sooner and with a few more strings attached. But sure. The bailout was the right thing to do. The government chose not to intervene in the first great depression. After lending froze up, most banks collapsed. When the banks collapsed millions lost everything. Nobody could get a loan. In less than 4 years, unemployment hit 20%. That's twice the current rate.
@TheMoravians See all they did with the bailout was turn a long drop off a steep cliff, into a short roll down a small hill. Jobs are the last thing anybody expected to recover. Even Liz Warren, the director of tarp, admitted that the employment rate wouldn't recover for at least a few years unless we got lucky. Honestly I'm surprised were doing as well as we are. Sure it sucks, but it could be worse. If there were no bailouts, people would be complaining that the government didn't do enough.
A lot of conservatives argue that it was ww2 and not FDR that got us out of the great depression. This is a perfectly valid argument but lets examine it for a second. It's widely accepted that the vast industrial mobilization that took place during the war revitalized the economy. But who paid for this vast war machine? You know where I'm going with this. If it weren't for the government sinking vast amounts of tax payer money into American industry we may have never recovered. Sound familiar?
There was gas and food rationing throughout WWII. No civilian made vehicles and mass civilian sector shortages. Artificial reductions in unemployment brought about via pure conscription.
Its arguments such as your that predicted the Great Depression of 1946 (in which it was argued that an end to "stimulus" would result in the end of the world). The one that didn't happen.
@TheTrueHolyDarkness I guess I should have been more thorough. The "conscription" of millions of Americans into the military and military industry did little to ease the problem by itself. This influx of money only succeeded because of a prevailing mantra of anti consumerism and the promotion of war bonds. At the end of the war, the American public, with money in their pockets and a revitalized hunger for commercial goods jump started the economy by themselves.
@TheTrueHolyDarkness I think you misunderstand the nature of a good stimulus program. I actually agree with you that its silly to use government stimulus as a crutch to lean on or a bandage to stop the bleeding. If anything a stimulus program works like an adrenaline shot. Its not gonna get the drugs out of your system. But it can get your heart beating again. Roosevelt's early policies failed because they were too little too late. We got out of it largely because of luck.
@skafiaman Keynesian economics. Long discredited among modern economists. Still resorted by noneconomists wishing to justify bigger government.
It didn't work during the Great Depression. It didn't work for Japan. It didn't work for Greece. The fatal conceit is that the state cannot "buy" economic prosperity. It can only redistribute it by which ~57cents of every dollar currently taken is lost through the bureaucratic process for the sake of projects not elected by the market system.
I'm not a conservative, so the game of "a lot of conservatives" say this or that, doesn't work with me.
Maybe the massive destruction of Europe and Japan during the war, which left America as the strongest economy in 1945 had something to do with our recovery, compared with the rest of the industrialized world, not to mention our status as creditor to the world at the time, with gold-backed $.
Now US is the greatest debtor nation, after a massive de-industrialization for 3 decades.
@TheMoravians Conservative, libertarian, whatever you wanna call it. Sure there's a myriad of reasons that we thrived after the war but the recovery began well before Europe was devastated by the war. I agree with you about Americas de-industrialization but I really don't see any reason why long term debt is such an issue when compared to such a potentially devastating crisis. Oh and in 1945, the federal debt as percentage of the gdp was around 120%; Today it is about 90%. Not so bad eh?
@skafiaman The combination of de-industrialization, fiat currency (no gold or silver backing) and long term debt leaves our country with no economic base. Ultimately its no different than a person with no job, no savings and a massive credit card debt; eventually the bank will cut you off, then you'll starve. America's top creditors have industrial jobs, resources & savings - China, Japan & Middle East Oil countries - and don't need the US for anything & can cut us off soon.
The only way this viscous cycle can be broken is if a lot of people start spending their money again. Unfortunately, this never happens when we have a recession of this magnitude. As a result, the government is forced to start spending our money for us. This is what we call a stimulus package. Sure its dirty but it works, and the amount of money the average American will owe in taxes is negligible compared to the amount we would have lost had the government not acted quickly.
Bailouts and stimulus spending are what you might consider necessary evils. When we have major recessions like this, people understandably stop spending and investing their money. They cant be blamed for this because from an individual stand point saving money makes sense in an uncertain financial market. Unfortunately this is the last thing that the economy needs. It becomes a viscous cycle. The bad market slows down investments which creates a worse market which in turn slows down investments.
Companies like AIG and Bank of America were unfortunately allowed to grow to a point where their failure would jeopardize the American economy as a whole. If they collapsed it would have become next to impossible to get a loan in this country. If businesses cant get loans, they cant expand or pay off their debts. This is exactly what happened during the great depression. Hoover assumed that the market would correct itself. Big surprise! It didn't.
This girl has no idea what shes talking about. Our "nest eggs" were fucked long before tarp or any of these bailouts were even on the table. I'm sure we would all agree that if there were any justice in this world, these shady bankers and auto execs would be getting skull fucked by Ron Jeremy right now. Unfortunately, the real world ain't perfect. In the real world, sometimes you have to spare a few ass holes in order to save many innocent people.
You need to get one of those big 32 egg cartons to cover all the money the military wasted on the War on Terror. The war on drugs is another huge wast of our money, and directly violates our liberties. These wars KILL people, as in, no coming back. Socialism, is only a small part of how the US governments is destroying the country.
Yes, the war on drugs wastes billions of dollars each year and should be stopped! And I also agree that we should scale back our presence across the globe. The bottom line is that you can't trust government with total control, it is dangerous.
You say the money "wastED" on the war on terror, as if the war on terror is over now.
The War on Terror continues in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and all the other countries that were targeted before. Just because the President (or Faux News) doesn't call it "the war on terror" anymore doesn't mean it's over. It continues on, more deceptive now because it's under the radar of most Americans.
@TheMoravians I could not agree with you more. It also costs more than money. The US media doesn't talk about the numerous innocents that the US Military kills trying to capture a few thugs.
@waveoflight I should have realized that you knew what was going on.
Easily a million people killed in Iraq alone, even harder to estimate the death toll in Afghanistan/Pakistan, especially the bystanders in the predator drone strikes, which will continue to escalate as Obama has chosen to ramp up that war. Iran now has a UN imposed embargo. Economic sanctions killed 250,000 infants in Iraq, 1990-2003, out of a smaller population than Iran.
@TheMoravians You need to get your facts right. From 2003 -2010 there have been an estimated 107,000 iraqi civilian deaths. Afghanistan civilians, an estimated 34,000. Compared to the American Civil War, an estimated 620,000 deaths in the span of only 4 years. Maybe you forgot about the 3,000 innocent lives on September 11, 2001?? What about them?
What I meant by people borrowing everyday. People's mortage is to high, they try to borrow, credit cards are high people borrow. You get it. Not to mention the Congressional Budget Office also told Barack he would have to borrow over $9.3 trillion dollars to help out for what Bush left. Oh, by the way. Remember that dumb shit Reagan did with the Laffer curve? We are still paying for that also, but no one talks about that. I could go on for days.
People have selective memory, and does not remember Bush left this mess which we will not see the end, per the CBO, until well after 2014. With all this said, and all I hear are the GOP maily complaining. What the hell is there to do, but borrow? If no money was borrowed when Obama got into office, we would be living in a Great Depression. Fuck that. People borrow all the time with no money.
The banks, unfortunately, have grown too powerful since the 1970's and control over 60% of the world. If you don't bail them out what do you think will happen? This to is not rocket science. The Stimulus Package in 2009 was needed per the Congressional Budget Office or unemployment would have been 25%+. I wish Obama would would give that money back so that we can go into a Great Depression. I wonder what people would say then.
You know what cracks me up? Are the dumb ass people I hear complain about bailouts when they don't know what the hell they are talking about. They are just agreeing with other people they listen to WITHOUT SEEING the BIG picture. The 2 most important things we have are Agriculture, and Manufacturing. If you don't bailout the auto industry, what do you think will happen? It's not rocket science.
Barry figured out that the best way to help people in financial trouble is to put them deeper into debt, hence the stimulus package. For this so-called 'help', we get to pay it all back plus interest. But Barry and his friends on Capitol Hill know that we have no choice; and besides, they're doing just fine for themselves on our wallets.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Fair play USA. A stimulus package was indeed neccessary to try and save the economy... It needed to be implemented quickly too, but I just don't think there was due care taken in identifying which areas needed it the most. So much for the free market capitalist system, eh? Why not let some banks go to the wall, the AIG deal is what eventually sent Lehmann Bro's down, and kept Goldman Sachs going. I also think the girl in the video is a bit of a looker, but a dozen eggs to make her point?
I like your attitude, but I dont like to waste food. Those eggs could have fed my boys breakfast all week. lol If more people would get out and vote and write their representatives more often instead of putting their head in the sand.
I agree with Jimmy, she is hot! Now go and clean up that mess!
cosbrowntrent, I sincerely hope that you are being sarcastic. Obama is a spineless, treasonous, lying bitch. At least the lady in the video knows what she is talking about, and she understands that Obamanomics will destroy our nation. It is time that we as Americans put a halt to Obama's lies.
I believe that he is part of the NWO. He's been working for the other side, working more for liberal agendas than for conservative, and during the election he kept shooting himself in the foot every time he got ahead in the polls - he is a total liberal. The NWO wanted Obama to win so they can usher in their socialist agenda.
I'm 14 years old and I'm fucking tired of Obama and his bailouts. I don't know what to do! Everyone is giving me these doomsday speaches about how we're gonna be screwed and I'm just sittin here like "Is there any hope?" Apparently there is. Get rid of Obama. YUP! That should save america and more.
oh and almost forgot if you still believe in obama your fucking stupid the man is doing things to support his voters not do whats best for the country... for example my 401k for retirement.... 80% of that will be gone.. and as she explained in the video. if you have kids there fucked too because you are stupid for supporting our stupid ass president in the first place... and nice video good metaphor
stages of inflammation has already started because people are paying taxes with their stimulus money, so all the stimulus money is just going back to the treasury. what we should do is give tax reductions to big name companies for spending on American products (gas companies is a good example).. such as going green and buying American products to be more energy efficient. let say buying a new coal burner to burn cleaner. that way we are encouraging spending in the right areas.
Today I just found out that I am going to have to pay taxes on the stiumulus that I'm getting in my check each month. Which started in May of 2009. Why am I paying taxes on this money when I thought it was free? The government has lied to me again.
Russia was a democracy after the October revoultion in 1917, and look how long THAT lasted. You're as naive as Bush if you think democracy will take hold in Iraq. Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds HATE one another. All we did was remove Saddam the strongman, who kept the different sects in line. Chaos has been the result since,
ahh, last i saw didnt russians just elect a new president?
are you blind, iraqi women can vote, get educated, go shopping and not have to worry about getting stoned to death. are you some kinda jihadist sympathizer?
Iraqi women could do that BEFORE we invaded. Iraq was one of the most westernized countries in the Middle East. Iraqi women could wear western clothes, go to universites, etc, And Iraqi universities were some of the finest in the Middle East. You're obviously confusing Iraq with IRAN . Unfortunately, Bush's foolish, short-sighted invasion has provided Iran with a chance to turn Iraq - with its Shiite majority - into another Iran, an Islamic theocracy ALSO dominated by Shiites.
All medical and scientific measurements everywhere are done in the metric system. And that is the only place where they should ever be used. They are very useful when doing calculations, very worthless in everyday use.
I use metrics for everyday use. You must be American. Very confusing system you have with teaspoon, ounces, pints, quarts, gallons not to mention inches, feet, yards, miles.
Yes, i am American. I like the system we have a lot, it is very easy to visualize our measurements, as they are all based on practical things. You can measure accurately without tools using your feet and hands, for example. And a gallon of milk, etc etc. It wouldn't take much to go over to metric, but I'd rather stick to what we have. I don't care if it's harder for some calculations. I've never used a gallon of milk in chemistry class, haha.
This video should be shown all over the country!!!! BRAVO! I'm sending it to everyone I know and...vnwarren, you really are a douchebag! Talking about missing the point!
So why all the bailouts? There is a cause-effect relationship for everything and this "infomercial" never addressed that. The companies mentioned never did the right thing, they were in greed mode and it caught up with them. Don't blame Obama, he's only cleaning up this mess the best way he knows how. Look in the mirror and blame yourselves and the entities mentioned in the video, BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS!!!
Its every Americans fault. Because as a whole we all laid back and let the government that we are to control get out of control. Now its time we FIX our mistakes!
FIrst, I've got to say this a great video and I don't mean to minimize the serious nature of your message...but the whole time I was watching it I couldn't stop thinking how much better I'd like it if you would do it again...only naked.
I suggest that you all study world history a little more in-depth, and not the text book version, because 'Winston' (ca1984) has edited our history books. History repeats, friends! Look only as far back as Nazi Germany: Hitler had his own Capitol bldg burned down, blamed terrorists, took away the peoples' rights, took guns away, and the ball started rolling. Sounds like 9/11 to me! The Germans never thought it could happen to them; the Cubans never thought it could hpen to them. Dont be fooled.
I find it funny that the tool Barry used to fool all the young voters and win the election is ultimately going to be the exact same tool which overturns the way American Government does business - gawd, where would we be without Al Gore's most popular invention, the internet??? :)
Obama has not helped my family at all. I work and live pay check to pay check. I do NOT qualify for goverment assistance. It looks like the blue collar worker is SCREWED IN THE ... AGAIN. No check to help with the bills unless you receive welfare ( $100 increase on food stamps) or disability ($250 extra). The middle class blue collar workers and college students can KISS the FUTURE of making more money GOODBYE because the money we make is going to pay the NONEXISTENT STIMULUS MONEY BACK.
You make a good point. Every taxpaying american has a right to be angry. Unfortunately, most will loose their nest egg, their college fund, their retirement and maybe their home before they get angry enough... and of course by then... it will be too late.
No matter the reason or goal, spending this much money is simply criminal on so many levels. Responsibility is given up since the government is acting to bail everyone out. Welcome back Carter, we have a long four years ahead of us.
This is really stupid. Before Bush came in the debt was 5 trillion and holding steady because of Clinton and Gore's policies. Bush pushed the national debt up to 10 trillion. Yes, 10 times the amount she was discussing in this video. At this point to sit around and do nothing risks complete economic collapse, the legacy of Bush. How about proposing something constructive? Bush tax cuts and wars got us here!
More spending does not combat too much spending by Bush. Bush spent too much, now it's time to stop spending our money. Don't you know how to get out of debt? It certainly isn't by spending more.
Ok, so don't spend a trillion to get us out of the 5 trillion deeper hole that Bush created, thereby completely wrecking us? Sounds like a really smart move!
One should avoid debt, I agree - I am debt free, not a penny owed anyone. But I will take on debt again to solve problems. Debt is only bad if you don't have a plan to get out of it - which was what Bush was doing. Obama is ALREADY talking about balancing at least the deficit!
Please this is so false. If I remember, Bush had some help with a Demcratic Congress in spending large sums of money right? Or, are you too partisan to agree? Obama has a plan to pay it back, when did this happen? You mean taxing the "rich" in 2011? Grow up. They all spent too much money, and we will suffer for it.
Scscruzer, Nice response. Keep doing a great job with your vocab, and now know you are part of the problem with your closed and limited mind. Any more outburst, and you will be reported.
i'm sick of people complaining about bush. it's over and done with. isn't obama supposed to be getting the country out of debt instead of doing things like losing investors 3 trillion MORE dollars since election day? he is at the forefront of the biggest loss of money in the shortest span of time in the history of our country. hats off to uneducated masses who voted this babbling idiot into office.
So DO something about it. You know how? Kill these pigs in government. Revolution, see? You're not willing to do that? Yeah, me either. Well, there you go. At least you shitheads can keep posting silly power fantasy videos...whatever gets you through the night. Me? I got a .357 and I'm safe.
That does not make him an enemy to the country. Everytime democrats get in charge the economy goes into a small depression, do some research and you will find my words true, don't just count them false.
you mean if obi-naboby succeeds the economy will collapse. the us already has flooding along its rivers? go figure, maybe its the effects of global idiocy.
ozzieatadd - agreed. This channel, however, is run and attended by people who are greedy, otherwise known as republicans. They want tax breaks for themselves and don't care at all if someone else is starving. Apparently, their mindset comes from most of them being theists, which means that they have deluded views of how the universe works..
My problem with this? Far too subtle. It's difficult to parse the deeply coded meaning of this trenchant commentary. Maybe she could dumb it down for people with single-digit IQs, since this is far too haughty and intellectual.
the jackasses that voted for chimpyMc.hopenchange are still "hopeful" and "willing to give the one a chance". I wonder what it would take for these people to see the truth. I think in the end obama hopes to destroy the USA.
When I see this I start to wonder wether libertarians that wanted Obama have had second thoughts now. Sometimes I hate to be right. I especially hate to be right regarding the current US president. What can happen that will not make him the worst president ever?
I think she is related to Gallagher.

WilliamHCarney 1 year ago
People have selective memory, and does not remember Bush left this mess which we will not see the end, per the CBO, until well after 2014. With all this said, and all I hear are the GOP maily complaining. What the hell is there to do, but borrow? If no money was borrowed when Obama got into office, we would be living in a Great Depression. Fuck that. People borrow all the time with no money.
WilliamHCarney 1 year ago
The banks, unfortunately, have grown too powerful since the 1970's and control over 60% of the world. If you don't bail them out what do you think will happen? This to is not rocket science. The Stimulus Package in 2009 was needed per the Congressional Budget Office or unemployment would have been 25%+. I wish Obama would would give that money back so that we can go into a Great Depression. I wonder what people would say then.
WilliamHCarney 1 year ago
You know what cracks me up? Are the dumb ass people I hear complain about bailouts when they don't know what the hell they are talking about. They are just agreeing with other people they listen to WITHOUT SEEING the BIG picture. The 2 most important things we have are Agriculture, and Manufacturing. If you don't bailout the auto industry, what do you think will happen? It's not rocket science.
WilliamHCarney 1 year ago
Barry figured out that the best way to help people in financial trouble is to put them deeper into debt, hence the stimulus package. For this so-called 'help', we get to pay it all back plus interest. But Barry and his friends on Capitol Hill know that we have no choice; and besides, they're doing just fine for themselves on our wallets.

I also think the girl in the video is a bit of a looker, but a dozen eggs to make her point?

stages of inflammation has already started because people are paying taxes with their stimulus money, so all the stimulus money is just going back to the treasury. what we should do is give tax reductions to big name companies for spending on American products (gas companies is a good example).. such as going green and buying American products to be more energy efficient. let say buying a new coal burner to burn cleaner. that way we are encouraging spending in the right areas.

Greenandscaly 2 years ago
Oh yeah. There was plenty of freedom in Saddam's Iraq. Killing Kurds and torturing innocents for fun was all a part of the party

All medical and scientific measurements everywhere are done in the metric system. And that is the only place where they should ever be used. They are very useful when doing calculations, very worthless in everyday use.
spraynpray 2 years ago
I use metrics for everyday use. You must be American. Very confusing system you have with teaspoon, ounces, pints, quarts, gallons not to mention inches, feet, yards, miles.
unlending 2 years ago
Yes, i am American. I like the system we have a lot, it is very easy to visualize our measurements, as they are all based on practical things. You can measure accurately without tools using your feet and hands, for example. And a gallon of milk, etc etc. It wouldn't take much to go over to metric, but I'd rather stick to what we have. I don't care if it's harder for some calculations. I've never used a gallon of milk in chemistry class, haha.

The middle class blue collar workers and college students can KISS the FUTURE of making more money GOODBYE because the money we make is going to pay the NONEXISTENT STIMULUS MONEY BACK.
bovee29 2 years ago

mossrun 2 years ago 2
No matter the reason or goal, spending this much money is simply criminal on so many levels. Responsibility is given up since the government is acting to bail everyone out. Welcome back Carter, we have a long four years ahead of us.
trzop42 2 years ago
This is really stupid. Before Bush came in the debt was 5 trillion and holding steady because of Clinton and Gore's policies. Bush pushed the national debt up to 10 trillion. Yes, 10 times the amount she was discussing in this video. At this point to sit around and do nothing risks complete economic collapse, the legacy of Bush. How about proposing something constructive? Bush tax cuts and wars got us here!
farvision 2 years ago
More spending does not combat too much spending by Bush. Bush spent too much, now it's time to stop spending our money. Don't you know how to get out of debt? It certainly isn't by spending more.
LibertyOnTheRocks 2 years ago
Ok, so don't spend a trillion to get us out of the 5 trillion deeper hole that Bush created, thereby completely wrecking us? Sounds like a really smart move!
One should avoid debt, I agree - I am debt free, not a penny owed anyone. But I will take on debt again to solve problems. Debt is only bad if you don't have a plan to get out of it - which was what Bush was doing. Obama is ALREADY talking about balancing at least the deficit!
farvision 2 years ago
Please this is so false. If I remember, Bush had some help with a Demcratic Congress in spending large sums of money right? Or, are you too partisan to agree? Obama has a plan to pay it back, when did this happen? You mean taxing the "rich" in 2011? Grow up. They all spent too much money, and we will suffer for it.
