I am a river pilot. I see literally 3-4 different nationalities per day. Bowing is the most unthreatening respectful thing I can do for a person I am showing hospitality to who is from a country where bowing is a way of greeting. It does NOT show weakness. Okay, I agree about the bowing critisism. HOWEVER, observe the handshake. Obama shakes his hand, doesn't let go, pulls Hu in the direction he wants Hu to go, and uses his left hand to guide even further. Looks like total control by our President over Hu after the bow. Would have been stronger without the bow, but the bow made impact of this handshake and control by the President a surprise.

First of all. The President is an equal to all other leaders of the world. They meet each other as equals. Bowing is subservant and translates as weakness in Asian cultures. Shaking hands does not suggest that you are superior,it is an accepted way of greeting one another. Obama is an embarrassment to this country, all the other nations are laughing at him and us.

You're missing the point. The struggles we've endured have been so that we do not have to bow to anyone. Bowing, especially in China, is a sign of submission. Also, notice that Hu Jintao did not bow back? There's no greater sign of "polite" disgust/disrespect than not acknowledging someone's honoring of you. Hu essentially said "Fuck you Obama, fuck you America. You're beneath me."

Democracy, is by truth, the ability to be a free soul. To recognize your own pursuits, to think and speak freely, to communicate and compromise when needed. A normal person, does what's right. If you cannot do what's right, ie murder theft etc., then you forfeit many rights. You then have to compensate or answer for your actions. Otherwise, a person's soul is not to be imprisoned just because they were born. Democracy in a proper sense, is the answer.
