it is amplified..that's a gallien- krueger setup behind him. modern amps can be set to sound very 'acoustic', and of course there are amps made specifically for piezo-type pups. in any case, you bet he sounds awesome! what a talent...
I really think we have here one of the most progressive bassists of our time, both virtuoso on upright and electric, a rare ability. I am a fan, thanks for being such an inspiration Mr. Bromberg!
In a lot of jazz tracks with an upright bass, you can't even hear it unless you turn the volume up a lot. You not only hear him loud and clear, but he has such a unique and recognizable richness to his sound whether he's in the lead or backup. I don't think it sounds like an electric at all--he's just taken existing technology to bring out his own personal voice. By the way, that's totally Rick Braun. He's on the cd so it makes sense
Weckl is a dynamic drummer. He funkin hot. If you dont understand american smooth/contemporary jazz learn it. It would be one of the most expresive forms of music where the artists are free to play not stuck to a standard from of so call right. just funkin show your knowledge and minipulation of the scales thus adding relatives scales and accidentals. Play your azz off!!! but remember the melody....
Rick Braun is not playing the trumpet!! Jeff has always had a funky drummer and bassist presence in his band since the early 70s. Check out Jeff Lorber Fusion with Dennis bradford, Danny willson and Kenny G. The tracks jeff is doing now are hot, but if you want to hear jazz chops syncopated search the jeff lorber fusion
My thoughts on Brian are "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." He's capable of being immensely musical, as in his work with Alan Broadbent, and even then sometimes Broadbent can't restrain him. Also, the thought of such a great instrument.. priceless, being made to sound just like an electric, (really low action, magnetic pick ups.. ) sort of makes me sad. Still to each his own.
Bromberg is a mad man, though the super fast plucking thing gets old. Drummer grooved like a mofo but was too damn loud. Either way, I still enjoyed the hell out of this.
no dude.... hes just a little loud. well maybe i assumed that. chances are at the show, hes at a perfect level anyways. its just really loud in this recording
It is in deed very tight! You got a negative reply from some dick head who doesnt understand English expressions!!! Water tight as a fog's ass simply means they very much together as band!
Tight as a fogs ass....LOL...At least he is getting educated on expressions. I could have used smoking! Any word that expresses that they are well refined.
So were YOU running the camera? Cause if not, MIND YA BUSINESS! If you read the rest of what I wrote you would see that I know it's about the music. He is AMAZING! (which again, I said in my previous comment) If you did happen to be the camera person for this, don't get too offended by my comment. Just listen to who's soloing and actually put the camera on them. Anything else you want me to clear up for you? Again, mind ya business. Notice I wasn't the only one commenting on the bad camera work.
Too much saki for the camera person perhaps? ;) Atomic Brom is RIGHT! :) Hey Brian, I'm guessing you have instructional cd,s? Maybe on both electric and double bass technique that you use? Thanks SO much for sharing what you do with the rest of us. Absolutely AMAZING. :)
Excellent Form of Playing the Double Bass in with Incredible Speed and Soul! Definatley One of the Best I've seen and heard in a long time! Great Bass Playing and a tight brass & Quintette to back him up. Very Good Drummer also. Great Band Altogether!
