the movie tracked well with Speer's account and Hitler's secretary. I didn't see the females role as overly large in the movie. Eva Brown was dim but the other women were quite intelligent even if they were as deluded as the males.
Speer is a known liar exposed in Matthias Schmidt's 1982 book Albert Speer: The End of A Myth. Hitler's secretary was a silly old woman who kept trying to phrase things in ways that would make the media like her. Neither account is entirely truthful.
That's Schmidt's opinion of course. Speer was self serving without a doubt but being a "known liar" is hardly justified.
To dismiss both these witnesses so disengeously is not serving history. These people were flawed and made terrible decisions but that does not dismiss everything they reported in my view.

Yes not historically true, but it lends itself to suspension of disbelief, to those watching. the movie tracked well with Speer's account and Hitler's secretary. I didn't see the females role as overly large in the movie. Eva Brown was dim but the other women were quite intelligent even if they were as deluded as the males.

Speer is a known liar exposed in Matthias Schmidt's 1982 book Albert Speer: The End of A Myth. Hitler's secretary was a silly old woman who kept trying to phrase things in ways that would make the media like her. Neither account is entirely truthful.

That's Schmidt's opinion of course. Speer was self serving without a doubt but being a "known liar" is hardly justified.
To dismiss both these witnesses so disengeously is not serving history. These people were flawed and made terrible decisions but that does not dismiss everything they reported in my view.

Read Heinz Linge's book With Hitler To The End, Linge was Hitler adjutant from 1936-1945 and his account is strong because it lacks the kind of public pandering righteousness of Speer and Junge. Linge doesn't write in terms of whether Hitler was good or bad for humanity or any of the other sweepingly broad emotional nonsense you find in Speer and Junge. To me his account is far more reliable. Hitler's chaffeur Erich Kempka's book is coming out in English in March and is important.

I read Linge's book and I found it appallingly apologetic about the Hitler regime which is to be expected from such a boot licking sycophant and Nazi fellow traveler. Speer despite his revisionist behaviour after the war and his war crimes at least attempted to spare Germany from the worst of Hitler's destructive impulses. I did read some material about some German film actresses who claimed that Hitler wanted them to defecate on him. They wound up killing themselves.

I read the accounts of Hitler's sexual fetishes in a book called the "Psychopathic God" which was not a book based on propaganda. Given Hitler's alleged fetishes with his niece Gali, it doesn't seem much of a stretch to imagine that his sexual behaviour leaned in this direction. ? yes I know the title..? and stated it correctly. There is no proof that his enemies invented these fetishes. His relationship with his niece who stated that her uncle demanded obscene sexual favors suggests that his sexual behaviour was atypical. I think there is an abundance of anecdotal material that highlights his alternative sexual proclivities. Not all of it was a smear although it's possible that some of it was.

Ms Junge also knew Hitler quite well as did Speer who considered himself a friend of Adolf.The real Hitler was a composite of many things as it is with most people. He was capable of charming considerate and warm with certain people as well as being a mass murderer and psychopath. The sexual behaviour of old Adolph will never be proven or disproved one way or the other but given his other behaviors ,especially the incestuous one with Gali I think one can make a reasonable hypothesis that his sexual manifestations were bound to be odd. Actually Churchill considered declaring war on trhe Soviets after their invasion of Poland but was dissuaded by his cabinet colleagues not because of Jewish interests but because of more practical concerns.
