  • my dad used to reanact the civil war

  • It would have been 100% realistic if not for that damn digital camera the dude is holding!

  • One person missed the reenactment!

  • I was in that column, somewhere.

  • Wow! This is the most amazing recreation of that famous six second film shot by inventor Léon-Alexandre Cànular in 1863.

The soldiers even look the same!

  • DEO VINDICE!!!!!!! THE SOUTH WILL BE INDEPENDENT ONCE AGAIN!!!!

  • rebel army lookin a might bit older and fatter than the ole days :)

  • Many Confederates wore what they could find to wear in the Civil War. With Lee winning battle after battle some of his men were entirely clothed in Union uniforms with flags matching. A.P.Hill's division at Sharpburg certainly carried captured Union flags.

Towards the end of the war, it was very rare that any Confederate troops under Lee had full Confederate uniforms. Belt buckles of "US" were turned upside down.

  • I've done re-enacting for years now, just had too take a few off due to some personal things. I've done Confederate, and have Never been a Yank. it's a great place to meet good ppl and enjoy history from a very interesting point of view. And by the way, the colums looked sharp. everyone was well in step.

  • well said Clevinger67 i totally agree a free and independent south land. keep flying the flag boys deo vindice!!

  • thats a lot of reenactors!!!!!!!!

  • Live to far from the reenactments so I make my own with my Johnny Reb Cannon (remco toy mfg)

Would love to see one of these.

  • God Save the South! I used to be a Confederate reenactor myself. A rather unique one because I'm from Canada. Loved marching with the drums and fifes..forward into battle where you could get killed in the shade of a tree and get out of the searing hot sun for awhile.

  • God SAVE THE UNION!

  • The Yankees were on the march to supress a people who only wanted to be left alone to govern themselves. The Confederates were fighting to defend their homes against a government they believed had become radicalized and was sending soldiers to govern them at gunpoint. I respect both sides in that war; soldiers in both armies fought courageously but the Rebs were the underdogs. The dash and fighting ability of the Confederate soldier is still recognized today. You fought all the way, Johnny Reb.

  • hey nice man im a reenactor from Canada. what unit were you with

  • I was with the 5th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry.

  • wtf are you talking about?

the confederates were out numbered 5 to 1. and the union still had more casualties.

the union lost 360,000 and the confederates lost 260,000. the confederate just didnt have as many soliders because their low population. if you hate the confederates because you think they were fighting over slavery, you need to open a history book. it was over independence and state rights. im a confederate reenactor. 5th virginia company G.

    lean some history, my friend.

  • God save the SOUTH!

    Greetings from Austria!

  • Very nice! Log live the south!

    Greeting from Germany!

  • I have staged reenactments all through the 90s and I must say that the recent films I see says much about the hobby. It is time for at least 2 out of 3 of the folks in this film to hang it up - way too old. You do nothing but present a false picture of the Civil War - too fat and too old. You do no honor to these soldiers memory. Read and study and learn what it really was like .

  • there were people fighting from age 13-70. as long as they could hold a rifle and march, they were just fine. as for the weight, this is america. now adays if you were to take every fat guy out of the hobby the number of reenactors would be cut in half. so in my opinion this is as close as it gets to what it was like. the thing that pisses me off when i fight in events are when people pull out a camera wile their marching. that is a disgrace. they should get sum1 else to film from the side

  • or someone should invent a reenactment kepi or slouch hat camera. Make an impressive fortune.

  • i was part of this march but im in the back some damn were

  • I wouldn't go spreading that around, lol! A lot of us do turn a blind eye, but according to ANV, USV, and Longstreets Corps by-laws and insurance regulations, you do actually have to be 16. I would never recommend that someone under 16 turn up at an event and expect to be let on the field...

  • ya in the groups i have been in its always been 16 to carry a rife.

  • I am actually in a group that lets ages 14-21 fire weapons

  • that is awesome, how old do you have to be to reenact?

  • You can join a unit and attend an event at any age, but you must be at least 16 to take the field, and you must have the written consent of a parent or guardian. I began at ten, and people are always amazed when I say I've been in the hobby for twenty years!

  • depends on what unit you join and if they have insurance, my battalion and company has insurance so its 16

  • I am with the 26th NC field music, I was in this column, I remember playing Garry Owen!!

  • On the first day I was part of the Confederate unit on the Reb far right flank. We over ran the Union battery. I was wounded and captured. When I was back with the wounded Yanks an artillery lieutenant aske me, "how many of there are you? You guys just kept coming and coming". I felt the same way on the second day when we were on the Confecerate far left. Those Union troops just kept coming and coming out the camps.

Very nice and great video. I watch i tover and over.

  • we wher eup frunt 20th sc hora

  • We were the TMVI and I believe we were at the end. On Friday in particular it took the longest time for us to get to the battlefield, and that was with only half the participants. It must have been amazing to watch the whole Confederate army march by. On Friday after I died midway through the battle, I concentrated on listening to the gunfire and cannons. It was incredible how many shots were being fired and how it went on and on. I sure had some "moments."

  • Awesome vid. I was supost to drum with the 7th FLA CO B Straw hats but uh i broke a wrsit!

  • Great video. The troops looked good marching to Garry Owen. Wish I could see more. I was part of Huckabee's MVB camped next to the ANV

  • I posted a longer video of the ANV marching to battle ... jimjamyou2be

  • come joine

  • This was a great video. I was part of the Confedeate column. Marching we could not see how many troops there were. In this video watching the men marching in step to Garry Owen was very nice

  • ...and you missed getting the best fife and drum corps in the hobby, The Carolina Fifes and Drums, in the video. You can hear them playing Garyowen right up to the point that the video stops. You caught the best brass band but they weren't playing at the time. Great experience caught on tape though. I'll remember this forever...Thanks!

  • The music really made the video ... Thanks to the bands for making this a memorable moment - Will the Carolina Fifes and Drum be at Chickamauga or Cedar Creek ??

  • This is one of the coolest things shown on You Tube ever.

  • The line of confederates on the march took over 40 minutes to pass - We were fortunate to be able to see the "pre-battle" formations in the confederate camp ... it really gets the blood stirring !

  • Ahhh!!! Why didn't you film more!! I wanted to see how much more of the line there was. I was part of the 3rd Federal Division at this event, and we fielded over 1,000 rifles alone in my organization and that wasn't the entire division. Sunday's fight, we fielded nearly 5,000 federals on the field. From our vantage point, the confederates were twice our numbers!

  • You guys wouldn't take any hits!

  • I have a few more videos - I'll post them over the next few days - It was VERY impressive to watch - had to keep switching from videos to stills .... I booked a room fro Chickamauga and Cedar Creek already, can't get enough - guess I'll be obtaining a uniform next ...

  • Hey man, what he is showing here is the first part of anv. they were camped up the hill. what you can't see off to the right of this is 3rd reg. pacs and longstreets corps. we all came out behind these guys...'bout where this guy filmed this...we had to wait a good 25min for them to get past and we had just about as long of a line as them.

  • As I was filming I made right turn and there were the Longstreet troops - i have s hort video of that too - I'll post it today - Watching the troops form was incredible, I was fortunate to be where I was - afterwards I heard that the camps were supposed to be closed to spectators, but we were welcomed wherever we went - guess they could see that under my "spectator getup" I'm a living history guy - I'll be in better garb at Cedar Creek.
