  • Great demo video. When you need Alabaster visit my site. Google search NM Alabaster or NM Stone Supply.

  • Great carvings. I looked at your website too. You do some great work!

  • What's with that strange music?

  • @carnisero43 He he, Sounds like DEVO ;)

  • What's the difference in hardness on this stone versus the hardness of alabaster?

  • @Trimere The chlorite is very similar to alabaster -- just a little bit harder. I am able to use all of my alabaster tools on it with no trouble. It smells a little different and is not water soluble. To me that means I need to be more careful about breathing the dust. I get my stone from neolithicstone

  • @gXxaxx Ahh, thanks for answering. I was thinking about trying alabaster but as of now I've only used soapstone. I just sort of fell in love with it and never moved on.

  • @Trimere Run (don't walk) to get yourself some alabaster. You will love it. The texture is great to work with. It is not as soft as soapstone, but it is still very soft. I recommend a project with form more than fine detail. And remember, when you stand the finished piece use wet-dry sand paper using water. The water keeps the dust down AND it cuts the stone nicely AND it increases the life time of the sand paper a huge amount.

  • @gXxaxx Oh, well with a description like that, I'll have to pick some up to try. At the moment I'm pouring out some plaster blocks for maquettes before I put it stone. Working with some new forms.... but yeah... I'll try it out and thanks for the sanding tip. I do wet sand the soapstone, but it's good to know you can do the same with alabaster. :)

  • Where do you get your stone?

  • @MrShowem2me My favorite source of stone right now is neolithicstone com

Good guy, fellow sculptor. He collects stones from around the world. Picks the premo for himself and sells the rest.

  • Yes! I would love to see more details of the sculpting process.

  • Very interesting information, fantastic work!

  • I can't wait to see how these come out! They are going to be gorgeous.

  • Beautiful work!

  • Yea, no, I mean, great ! It's wonderful to see a video which is the backbone of a tutorial about making a video about a work in progress. It's like, there was an old woman who swallowed a fly, she swallowed a spider to catch the fly, she swallowed a bird to catch the spider, she swallowed ... thanks for he tutorials Claude...looking forward to see th finished piece... wonderful stuff altogether...

  • I'm so busy with making tutorials that one way of sneaking in production of my own stuff is to use them as samples for testing the different sofware and making the tutorials.

Fun to see that someone noticed the strategy. *grin*

  • What types of stone are you working with in this video? I love your work.

  • Normally I carve alabaster.

The stones are black chlorite and deep purple Pyrophyllite.

  • I'd love to see some "Hands-on" of the sculpting process...perhaps a Head-Cam would work! (other than having to hire tiny little elves to keep the lens clean..;)

  • With all the dust flying, I'll probably need something like they use for underwater filming to protect the camera. That dust gets everywhere.

  • Lovely to watch and learn about the process. Thank you for posting it.

  • Thanks for the comment. I'll try to post more detail of the process.

  • rofl, that last bit was very funny. Interesting to see the earlier stages of these stone sculptures. Must be a lot of stone dust coming off during the process.
