This teacher knows her shit .. I pay for school .. and learn more from these youtube videos then a 6 hour day at my school .. pretty sad.. I wish she was my teacher !!!
@panzercow: You totally misunderstand Professor Diamond's intentions. She wants to lecture with a chalkboard and chalk. She lectures at the same speed that you can write and absorb the material. She doesn't want to use flashy powerpoint presentations that whiz by the student and do not sink in. She doesn't need high tech. She has brains--and personality! She is not only teaching you lymphatics. She is teaching you how to LEARN.
Thank you so much for the lecture Mrs. Diamond. If you are still teaching I hope that the university has provided you with higher tech rather than the old chalk and board. A teacher like yourself deserves better technology to deliver your lectures.
i like the class but a picture is worth 1000 words. usually I have to look up other videos on youtube just to explain what shes writeing about and they do it great in only 3 or 4 minutes
i like the class but a picture is worth 1000 words. usually I have to look up other videos on youtube just to explain what shes writeing about and they do it great in only 3 or 4 minutes
this is what I've been looking for an old style teaching, Thank u so much , I learned a lot than in my class ...You are a Great Teacher , wish im in ur class.
This video was extremely helpful. My college I attend just uses power points, and whizzes through the lecture material, and doesn't explain it that well. Although this is the old style of teaching, it forces you to pay extra attention and listen closer. This was very informative, and if you have the patience to sit through it, she is a very good teacher. Thank you :)
That comment about inhaling two grams of chalk a day was fucking classic and had me in stitches...at least all that chalk dust is giving her lymphatic system a good work out...she's brilliant...
This lady teaches with a passion. She seems to enjoy what she does. She knows the material and she also know how to deliver the matterial...love love love u baby
Very nice presentation. I feel sorry for her in that she is doing it old school. All that chalk and handwriting is really distracting from her talking. It would be so much better with PowerPoint.
@addicted2sports13 yahh sure you are.....the only thing you prob have to know about the lymphatic system is it fights disease... congratulations smart guy!
@guzzbar congrats to this smart guy who's actually a girl! And I am in the 8th grade not some poser, I just put "I am in the 8th grade part" to show that I'm not obtuse aka. a dumbass and we are still learning this at my school and because of this woman's lesson....a thousand times better than my teachers...I'm advanced in my class.
ahaha well honeslty i congradulate you on being keen on learning :) sorry i was being a little obtuse that day ;), i was just jealous honeslty becuz uni is so much work..i kinda miss when i was in grade 8...
but for real..if this stuff interests you learn as much as you can before uni!!! it will only help you :)
if i could repear my elemenetary school summers, i would replace half that video game into reading :p...ow well i was a kid, i didnt no any better!
Dr. Diamond is absolutely incredible. She makes A & P so approachable. Also, the lecture style helps me to retain the material. Thank you UC Berkeley for putting this here.
Umm, can someone explain to me what that structure is sticking out of her aorta diagram in the beginning? It rises up as the ascending, and then branches off to the right to become the aortic arch. But I dont understand what the structure is that goes up to the left. Anyone?
What...how? Theres supposed to be the thee branches generating from the aortic arch. The brachiocephalic being the first one, followed by the left common corotid and the left subclavian as the last branch before the descending.
my bad, i guess it represents the brachiocephalic trunk. what else would it be? it doesn't matter anyway because she's talking about aneurysms not anatomy
Madam, with all respect due, I think it is "Diastolic" pressure and not "distolic" ( 8.30 to 8.46). I don't know whether it is an American variation but what we read n know is 'diastolic'
She is speaking of systole and distole and this is how we learned them in our class as well. You are right in that it seems to be dubbed diastole now, but even my books say distole so she isn't wrong per se. I'm not sure where/when the change took place and why but like I said, it was taught distolic as well...

I agree! Her lectures are in slow motion compared to the lectures at my university - but I love it! Going to lectures at my uni is pretty pointless, I don't learn anything because it's too fast.

I went to her office once to hand in a late assignment. She kept spitting when she talks, her breath was horrible, her office stank like fart & she kept cracking lame jokes.
My gosh! Did she get CWP (Coal Worker's Pneumoconiosis) because of that calcium carbonate dusts? LOL :) Poor Mrs Diamond! Notice her dyspnea. Great teacher indeed! Thanks for this great set of video-lectures.
Omg this lady is amazing wow she explains everything so good i wish my professor was like this she is Super good explaining this topic and makes it actually interesting wow am amazed =)
Hey idiot...a med student would take this course as a pre-med freshman. Make a stupid comment and it will be thrown right back in your stupid face...jackass!
Good lecture, "old school" style, using blackboard rather than Powerpoint, mostly. Prof. Diamond says that lung CA mets get to the brain by the lymphangiitic route. I think that the current opinion is that the route is hematogenous. Another nit: she refers to "distolic" BP. That may be an acceptable variant of "diastolic" BP, but I've never encountered that term before.
Re: "distolic" v. "diastolic." The word comes from Greek, with the "dia" being the adverb "apart" attached to the verb, "stellein," meanining "to expand," thus the relaxation of the ventricular chambers of the heart. "di-"in words of Greek origin usually refers to "two" or "twice," from the Greek word, "duo," which is the cardinal number, "two." Thus, "distolic" would mean "twice expanded," and, as you said, is a meaningless word. In other words, a mistake.
Marian Diamond Rocks. Your are obviously passionate with teaching, and it show. God bless you! Cheers, tp

I have heard it pronounced distolic.
The opposite of systolic.
Distolic is not in the dictionary and I believe it is just pronounced that way instead of diastolic.
I would rather see white boards instead of chalk boards. Easier to see, colors show up better, erases better, etc.
