  • man this was one of my favorite movies when i was little, i have to go dig it out osometime and watch it again

  • I like the mouse from Russia :3

  • The faining old mouse is the best!

  • I hate to break it to ya, but... There are cats in Amarica.

  • Wow this song is the most mood swinging song i've ever heard. Still awesome though XD

  • How come they are not worried about dogs?My dogs always kill rats when they see some and I have read that dogs also pose a threat to rats and mice.

  • I used to see that part when I was little. First, Papa Mousekewitz sings about how he lost his family to a cat as an orphan. Then an Italiano mouse sings about his mother (Catholic because of her rosary) asking the don to take her life in place of the mouse's brother Tony. But the saddest part has to be the Irish mouse who lost his childhood sweetheart to a Calico (like English Protestants killing Irish Catholics in persecution). I could feel his pain. :'( The chorus is uplifting, though.

  • The harsh truth: there are millions of cats in America, and the streets are paved with asphalt

  • Haven't watched this song in about 8 years yet I still remember nearly all the words, amazing movie!

  • The times were hard in Sicily, we had no provolone (a mellow light-colored, Italian cheese, usually smoked after drying.) The Don he was a tabby with a taste for my brother Tony. When Mama went to plead for him the Don said he would see her. We found her rosary (a string of beads used for counting prayers during their recitation) on the ground, poor Mama Mia!

  • Unfortunatly.... they are very wrong,

  • Calico's aren't male.

  • @JackandSally4ever They can be sometimes. Although, the genetic defects that make them male are extremely rare.

  • @smilefumble I think it's about 1 in every 5000 cats is a male. I'm not certain, it could be a much smaller number (I've also heard 1000 and 500). But it is a rarity.

  • For those who don't get it: it's symbolism, the cats stand for oppression.

  • Does the gravestone when the irish mouse sings say nan?

  • HAHAHAHA WAIT TILL YOU GET THERE XD no cats han??? LOL

  • we watched this is history class the other day! I was weeeeak!

  • What is the name of tune from 1:02-1:20 ??????

  • The world needs more sad, Irish mice.

  • No cats in America? Even mice conspire immigration scheme so they can hire them with little pay

  • Look peeps I hate to tell everyone this but....there ARE cats in America =/

    TONS of em!!! o.0

    (i know. i've been there.)

  • I just watched this in school today :D

  • I remember seeing this at age 6 and turning to my mum and asking "Is that true?"

(She laughed and said 'no', by the way.)

  • @fro7k Yea no. You see over here in America ever SINGLE neighborhood has whats called a "Crazy cat lady." She's usually a single woman between the ages of 40-70 who makes little to no contact with the ouside world and has a billion cats all over the place. So yes there are cats in america. LOTS of cats.

  • @arandomperson3 Unless you live on my street. Things got mixed up here. We have a crazy Cat Man. >.<

  • hehe yeah no cats but anyhow i love this movie

  • i love it when the irish mouse sings!!

his lyrics remind me of a story my grandpa used tell about his love

who died before coming to America :(

    Rip Grandpa! love ya

  • are there any cats in America?

  • @danmanlott

    of course-i have 1

  • do u know where I can watch the full movie without downloading it for free online???

  • AMAZING :D

  • Hey guys, someone I cared for was brutally murdered, lets go to America! :D

  • I'm highly allergic to cats but I love cheese I left my home for America found out these fucking mice lied if I ever see them again I'm going to step on them.

  • #t=2m - MARX GETS OWNED BY THE IRISH

  • Aristocrats

    - FULL OF SHIT

But they know where it's at 0_0

  • the irish mouse is my favorite

  • We saw this in my Pre AP English class and It's been in my head all day

  • if there were no cats in america i would be VERY happy. I HATE cats

  • @GreekMythFan7

It would be even nicer if there were no mice either

  • as I got it,

The Mice are Jews or other minorities and the Cats are Racists

so when they sing "there are no cats in America" its a Metaphore

    for "No Racism in America"

But later they discover that its a lie and there is Racism and injustice in America

  • @jaguar4u2 you got all that from this movie lol

  • @jaguar4u2

Not exactly. It is showing that all the immigrants had a reason for coming to America (to escape the oppression of their county i.e. "cats") only to find that yes, America has cats too. In otherwords, the "American dream" isn't exactly true. It is not a perfect country, there is still tragedy and oppression. Clearly, they aren't all jews, merely immigrants. So to narrow the focal point down to just "racism" sort of takes away from the big picture. Just my observation.

  • @Stellana

yeah, well actually when you mentioned that

I gues some are Irish or Spanish Christians

and the Mousecowitzs are Russian jews

  • @jaguar4u2

    Yeah :)

  • but there are an infinite amount of cats on the internet they'll shat their pants when they find out

  • This, I'm afraid is not true. There are many cats in America. If you don't believe, there is a neighborhood cat that comes to my house because me and my sister, Cupcakeparty1, feed it while our neighbors are in Belgium. The cat's name is Idifix

  • We got to watch this in my US history class :D

  • This movie reminds me of "The Jungle".

  • just like these mice, i dislike cats as well...

and there are too many cats in america

and i fuckin love these movies

  • the streets are pathed with cheese

  • hmm no cats eh *looks at my cat sleepin* um insnt my lexus a cat?

  • Comment removed

  • Then) Surely no cats in America For all the mice in America Now) Lots of fanged beasts in America Just for the rats in America Life was tough as a russiaan -So what changed by crossing the ocean ? We had to hide and live underground -While here we've been chased on the grouund Back in our home we were poor -While here there's a worst downpoor
  • This is something we should have watched in US History Class when we reached the immigration sections of the course (the late-19th Century stuff). If they had some question based on immigration on the AP Exam, I would have definitely quoted from this movie (no matter how silly it seems, hey people quoted from the Scarlet Letter in last year's essay section).

  • <3 <3 don bluth's films.

  • No cats in america

-stares at her cat in her room in america-

    Um....

  • actually, there were no rats in america, untill they arrived.

  • whats the name of the singing voice of the irish mouse with his true love fair turaloura?

  • 0:45 - "there are no cats in america, the streets are paved with cheese"

Yeah, if by cheese you mean semen.

  • No cats in America? Not sure where they got that bit of misinformation from. XD

  • 1:55 LoL

  • Hey Wait, Didnt in the Godfather the mother begged the boss for her sons life?

  • Yes there are, ya big fart.

  • I haven't seen this movie in about 15 years but this song instantly came back to me while watching this. I gotta watch the whole movie again.

  • my first full sentence was "Daddy, there are no cats in America!" My dad is in the military and we were in the Philippines at the time and I really thought America didn't have cats hahaha I'm 23 and my dad still reminds me of this well known fact :)

  • Sure that's sad, but sadder still.

When I was but a lad, I lost my true love fair. A calico, he caught us by surprise! In a flash of teeth and fur, her tail was all he left of herrrrr. 'Neath the heather is where my Tura Luara lieeeeeess.....

  • I like the italian one, "A cat killed my mother, but its ok cos italys better then russia"

  • 1:43 to 2:19 when the irish mouse was singing, what style of singing is that? what style of music is that? it seems enchanting and poetic, i dunno, like a church?

  • @KnifeSoldier This sounds like a really simplistic answer, but I'm pretty sure the style is "Irish Folk".

  • This is the most cheerfully depressing song I've ever heard. I loved this movie when I was little (still do), but back then I just liked the colors and music. Now that I actually get it...yikes. Still, I'm glad I grew up when I did. This movie is much better than most animated movies nowadays. They'd never put a song like this in a movie anymore.

  • I love this movie!

  • it stereotypical to say call mice like cheese

  • I know of one person who missed the like button... Oops

  • I own 2 cats, and I live in PA.

  • @QWERTYCommander maaaaaaannnn... way to ruin the song for me.

"now there are twoooo cats in america"

  • Mmmm...cheeeeeese...

  • UGHHHHHH THIS SONG IS STUCK IN MY HEAD >.<

  • Man this was the best thing to watch after Hebrew School.

  • @mone1189 in this movie the Jews r represented as mice and the Cossacks (elite Russian soldiers) r represented as cats

  • @TheCarterKane I thought that fact was fairly obvious?

  • @TheCarterKane mm plus the snow and ice represents cold.

  • @mone1189 This was my favorite thing to watch after public school.

  • lol wow... I had totally forgotten about this movie xD I wanna watch it again now! I used to love it when I was like 3

  • @LilMissFudgie Now I do too! And the Western one...hehe

  • I love the metaphors in this movie :)

  • Cats suck! Cheese rocks! America is the best!

That sums it all up right there

  • the irish mouse has a great voice :O

  • That would be interesting to see more of the Irish mouse's story... like the two lovers in the glenn and then these redcoated British yeoman soldier cats attack them.

  • I just love how the movie represents how the governments sucks in other countries and how one can get a job as easily as they portray. I mean really, when I watched this at 5 it was all about cats and cheese, now its like, "ahhh the naive and hopeful....."

  • Yeah they wish We DO have Cats in America I have 4 Cat buddies Rag, Cleo, Winky or Winx 4 short and Mister Mr. and the 3 cats Live outside Mr. Mister stays inside with us and My cat buddies stay outside and catch whatever they want

  • there are no cats in america.. and the streets are paved with cheese.. yes lets teach our kids the facts of life :')

  • They're in for a dissapointment when they get to America.

  • To everyone out there, think of this from their stand point. They come from shitholes and this was during a period where to immigrate to America they thought was where they could better their lives.

  • Man I liked this movie as a kid.

  • I like the Italian mouse, singing about his mamamia.

  • hehehe, "minsk"

  • For the longest time I thought they said "There are no cats in America, except for Siamese."

I asked my wife if Siamese are bad mousers or something and she laughed at me, :(

  • @joeyheartbear *Pats head symathetically* It's ok, I heard it i watched it

  • omg the Irish immigrant is so scary

  • UGHHHH THIS MOVIE IS CREEPY

  • looks like its time to oil up...but!

  • And the streets are paved with Cheese haha! That would suck!

  • What absolutely kills me, every single time I see this song, is how it represents that classic American Dream that immigrants fought so hard for, only to have the brutal reality hit them hard when they stepped off the boat.

  • @Kross2099 But also remember the other message, that even though america isn't perfect, it is the place to find hope! Just as Fival was able too in the end, being inspired by The statue of liberty to NEVER SAY NEVER :)

  • @Kross2099 you know that slap of reality hasn't gone away. Sure you can become anything you want in america but its not as easy as they make it seem in other parts of the world.

  • @Kross2099 Americans will be the new boat people in this new century.

  • @Kross2099

Why don't you step off, nigga?

    - excuse my husband for his rudeness...

  • Yes, i'm sure whichever marxist cess-pool they came from was much more the paradise.

  • Don Bluth is weird and F'ed up,but I love his movies!

  • If they are poor mice then why are they fat? l

  • In all seriousness, would everyone stop calling this a Disney movie, it isn't, it was made by Universal.

  • Funny how the cats represent stereotypes and discrimination and oppression.

  • Ok so the in Russia the cats are Cossacks.

In Italy the cats are the mafia.

So in Ireland are the cats the English?

  • @TheSouthernGentleman Protestants vs Catholics

  • @TheSouthernGentleman

    Pretty much.

And in America, the cats were the Xenophobic Asses.

  • @historybuff5341 Are you implying something sir? :P

  • @TheSouthernGentleman Nailed it.

  • @TheSouthernGentleman yeah, probably the Black and Tans.

  • it's nothing against the creators of this movie, but seriously, this film could also have been titled "American Portrayals of Every Foreign Stereotype Imaginable" =/

times were hard in italy...we had no...provolone? =/ funny at 30, but maybe not such a great message for little kids...

  • @alexp9999, the Italian part was a parody of the part in The Godfather II where Vito Corleone's mother is killed.

  • there are cats in america anf the (american fuckers are assholes too) jajajaj the north american people is very stupid......... make me laugh..jajajajajaj stupid people..

  • @yairz "american people IS stupid" hahahahahaha "make me laugh" hahahaha wow, you don't sound like a retard at all.

  • I think Fievel's old man is supposed to be a reference to Tevye in "Fiddler".

  • There Are No Cats In America? There Are 6 At My House!!!

  • I like the fact that at least one of the cats in the movie was a good guy. Unlike that Cats & Dogs crap.

  • those mice are stupid!

  • @skatapoopy Not really, to be honest, it's a lot like all immagrint's thougts of where there going. A perfect Shang-Gri-La were everythings going to end up all right. It's what they clung to. They werent stupid, just not as worldly as others

  • @Furubatsu I was being facetious fartknocker!

  • Somehow, even the mice have hairy chests in Italy...

But how great is the Irish mouse? I love the subtlety in his movements.

  • Don Tabiloni. LOL

  • Why did the main characters in the this have to Jewish? I'm not anti antisemitic or anything or like that, I just don't see why they couldn't be Russian Orthodox.

  • @TheSouthernGentleman why can't they be jewish? what are you trying to say? are there too many movies with jewish mice moving to america?

  • @TheSouthernGentleman probably to stop the rumours of disney being run by nazis

  • @mahatmashandi Heh, never heard that one before.

  • @mahatmashandi This is not a Disney movie.

  • @TheSouthernGentleman cuz it was produced by Steven Spielburg and he's Jewish

  • @TheSouthernGentleman besides, most of the Russian immigrants who came to America in those days were Jews

  • @skatapoopy Alright, alright, understood.

  • @TheSouthernGentleman There were alot of Russian Jews moving to America in 1880s. The Cossacks paid by the Czar chased them out in droves.

  • this reminds me of fiddler on the roof for some reason

  • @rockoshmucko Papa Mouskewitz's behavior is obviously modeled off Tevye.

  • God I love the irish mouse! Accurate stereotype.

  • @alchemist4evr What because all Irish people dress like leprechauns!

  • the cats followed them, end of

  • story?

  • When I was 7 we watched this in class because our teacher was too tired in June to bother teaching us anything new. Now I'm 17, and we watched this is class to compare it to how immigrants of the same time thought america was going to be like compared to their war-torn, ravaged countries. It is historically correct (agreeing with P4per126), although there were cats in america by that time and there we no streets paved with cheese.

  • Does anybody know what the Italian mouse is saying at 0:57?

  • @dmc97ingc

But the terrible thing exists in my homeland.

  • @dmc97ingc it says if anybody knows what happened in it's country...at the end it say ''My poor mother''

  • I watched this like every day when I was a kid. I think someday it's gonna make me immigrate to the USA - legally ;-)

  • i mostly see stray dogs in russia.

  • Gotta love those harcore stereotypes.

  • I love how everyone is like, "My family died...but at least WE'RE okay! Let's Sing!"

  • @Hethrin

touche. it is funny, but the reason their singing isn't JUST because they're okay.

  • lol and i just realized that the voice acting in this movie and from most movies back then were really outstanding =D

  • wow i remeber watching this when i was little. for awhile i couldnt remeber the name of this movie either! it brings back so many memories and i wish they'd play the movie on cartoon network again. that way the younger generations can see real good quality movies and not this junk they have on TV now.

  • Don't I wish this song was the truth...every time the neighbor's cat shits in my garden...

  • if only i wouldnt love cats, this song would be much better :P

  • i don't know if anyone wants to know this about me but my mom's side of family is irish-german immigrants (reference to the irish mouse)

  • 1.25 keep playing that fainitng mouse funny

  • 1:26 fainting mouse always gets me haha

  • I loved this movie so much when I was little.

  • the only cat i ever knew who didnt attack mice was my cat oliver who looks alot like tiger in this movie (i think thats what his name was but i may be wrong)

  • wtf happened to disney movies actually having a deeper inner meaning to it? Wall-e was the most recent of that kind of thing going on. where did my quality go?

  • @CFFDan

Well, Don Bluth made this, not Disney. His things have always been better since he left them <3

  • @InfernapesFlame That's very debatable. About the time Bluth released Secret of NIMH, Disney was in a rough spot--but once All Dogs Go to Heaven come out, there was a noticeable drop in Bluth's work. Thumbelina? Rock-a-Doodle? Troll in Central Park? Pebble and the Penguin? Pretty bland stuff.

  • I think the "no cats in America" isn't supposed to be taken literally. It stands for the exotic thoughts people had when immigrants were coming here, thinking that the "streets would be paved with gold" and overall, just thinking their lives will be better in America. It's a bit more obvious with the phrase "no cats in America" not only because there are obviously "cats" in America, meaning that there are still people who will prey on the immigrants when they come here.
