Yeah I get the same things when I jam in clubs sometimes ... nice people who love the trumpet sound giving you genuine heart felt feedback ... but for guys like us who play and LISTEN ... it's got a way to go (but the talent and the ideas are there!) You are like me ... playing everything in the slot (in the key centre) ... but I don't hear any 'jazz' notes (just like the weakness in my own solos! Try to find some substitutions (if the chords are not there ... but maybe they are). Good luck!
