JASON, thanks for all the videos and bunches of tips & info. I have a question about this video though... I was a little shocked after viewing it. Isn't it possible that your larger snake could mistake the baby snake for a meal? They are so cute together but I was just wondering... I have read some shocking stories about this. Thanks Jason -you have a beautiful collection and I can tell you take excellent care of all your snakes.
@5954ldydi Boas do not eat other boas and pythons do not eat other pythons, plus there is absolutely zero chance of that happening when I am standing right there.... give me a little credit.
@cutegayjason I agree Jason. Any reptile in captivity and its enclosure needs to be kept scrupulously clean to remain in good condition. Apparently, Mr. Stink isn't practicing good husbandry....I'm sorry for his animals
How old was Elvira when you got her Jason? i have my name on a breeder's list for a Basin baby born this month. I AM SO EXCITED!!! I I wanted one for years and already have everything ready to go for his/her arrival.
do you think handling them when they are babies like that would help make them more tame? i have a GTP and all the research i've done , i was under the impression that you shouldn't mess with them untill they were at least a year old
gtp babies are MUCH smaller than emerald tree boa babies! How many grams is your gtp? Elvira is almost 50 grams now and a gtp the same age would probably be about 25-30grams so about half the size! Gtps tails break very easily even baby etbs tails can break but I am super careful with her.
thank you! how old is your new baby going to be? Elvira was on fuzzie mice said the guy I got her from but she didnt seem interested in a fuzzie. I read online that baby emeralds are big enough to eat hopper mice approx 5-8 grams so I tried that and she eats them well. She didnt get hungry again for about 25 days so do not panic if this happens to you, as long as the snake is fat and healthy its okay if they go a while without eating after a fairly large meal! Just keep the temps warm 24/7
probably around 4 or 5 months, but very capable of eating fuzzie mice. I'm getting it sometime next week from Tom Crutchfield, he's getting a couple in so im just gonna go over there and choose. I hope to get another one and breed sometime in the near future.
emeralds do not sexually mature for 3 to 4 years for males and 4 to 5 years for females. they have very slow metabolism and grow very slow! Just remember that if you plan on breeding!
just got my basin, have one video up with him called introducing mezmeralda and mercutio, the basin is the 2nd half of the video, its not the best quality but better quality videos coming SOON!
Why are the baby ETB's and GTP's reds and yellows, dont they live in trees..wouldn't that destroy their camouflage?
Do they ever move, or do they really like to just perch and do they mind getting handled or is it annoying for them..
Do ETB and GTP bite much? and if they do i've heard that the bites can be very harmful as their teeth are so long...is that true? Have you ever been bitten? Were stitches required?
The babies are so small at birth, they can hide under a single tree leaf! My 4 month old baby emerald is only 39 grams! that is probably about the weight of two AA batteries! The do almost all their moving at night time! Mine do not mind being handled. Yes some GTPS and ETBS can be very aggressive! The only time I got bit was when giving my male adult some medicine and the tube got caught in his throat, it hurt but no stiches, he was just warning me as I am sure he could do much worse!
Emerald tree boas are almost always born orangey red and change to green within the first year. I know you like green tree pythons too, they are born usually lemon yellow or brick red and change green within the first year to year and half! It will be very exciting to watch her change colors!
Do you deal specifically with arboreal species? I love chondros but I don't think I will ever get an ETB just because of there sensitivity to food and frequent prolapses if not cared for properly. Chondros seem to be more forgiving. Are ETBS or GTPS your favorites? Nice cage!
No I have Rainbow boas, Red tail boas, albino ball pythons, normal ball pythons as well as the emerald tree boas and green tree pythons! I have read about prolapses and saw photos but never had a snake to have one. I always strive to do 100% to take care of my babies! My favorite is probably my emerald tree boas though I love the green tree pythons a lot too! I am breeding my gtps now and the female has ovulated so I am hoping for eggs within a month or so!
Keep us posted on the ovulated chondro! I like emeralds too, but it is likely I will never own one. You properly care for them and feed them on the right schedule, another problem with emeralds I forgot to mention was there regurge problems if you feed them to frequently and if you feed them overly large food items. In my opinion chondros are an ideal snake to keep. Although I don't own any yet =) My time will come soon enough. Thanks Jason!
Emerald tree boas mature slowly at about 4-5 years old for females and 3-4 years old in the males. They grow slower than most snakes and have a very slow metabolism so they only eat about every 12-21 days!
AWSOME! CUTE, amazing! Jason, you rule.
