I have Ocean Kayak Prowler 11T Angler Sit-On-Top Kayak With all gear from west to Paddles. Everything was purchased in Basspro shops or Dick's and most expensive gear they head at the time. There is fishfinder and one extra fishing rod holder. I would trade all of it for Canon L series Lense. Let me know what u got. If you think you have one for trade contact me. All my gear including Kayak is like just got out of the store.
I am a wildlife photographer and enthusiastic Ultimate 12 owner. Right after I bought the boat I bought an old Nikon F4 body (old but in excellent condition) and an older AI 300 mm Nikkor lens. Total investment was around $150 for what was state of the art professional equipment in the film days.
I shoot Velvia and have it transferred to a digital file when developed. It works fine and I have zero worries about dunking expensive gear.
The Native Watercraft Ultimate series boats are really stable hybrid kayaks. We have an Ultimate 16 and can attest to the stability.
We're headed to Yellowstone in 3 weeks with ours and will spend several days kayaking Lake Yellowstone collecting data. We'll have an assortment of gear from netbook and GPS to handheld computers, sensors, probes--we feel very confident in the stability it offers and comfortable taking lots of expensive electronics on an extended tour in it.
Hi I enjoyed your video. I live in north Florida and kayak fish frequently. I recently took up wildlife photography. Currently shoot a 7d with a 100-400l. I'm wanting to trade out for 500 f4. I shoot from my yak but only freehanded. Do you anchor or weight your tripod? I have a emotion grandslam and Malibu xfactor. I was thinking about putting an eye hook in deck under tripod to secure with bungee etc. Thoughts?
Its nice to know that not all photographers rely on the most expensive or best cameras in the world(nikon d3x or canon 1ds mIII) in order to get the great shots they need.
What you talkin about 5D or mkII? At first from a distance you could be forgiven for mistaking it for a 5D, x0D series etc.. which is what I thought at first but have a closer look when theres a tighter shot of the body. Thats no 5D or even x0D series. Its a Kiss (Rebel) series! Who would have thunk it!?!
Man he is brave....I have that same lens (canon 600mm) and its a little over $7000...plus the tripod (probably about $1000) and I can't tell what type of camera that its but it's prabably expensive.....Brave Man....
He spent waaaaay more time taking about the lense than the body. I got the feeling that it was the lense that made his shots and less so the body.
John is a big fan of these Ultimate kayaks. I thought then and I still do now that his comfort in one of these Ultimates as a camera platform say alot about these boats.
Bodies are nice, but even the best DSLR can't do anything with crappy glass in front.
It's really a combination of both, but honestly, people are more impress with the lenses.
When ever i have my 200-400mm f4 VR lens out with my D700 attached to it, i have NEVER had anyone come up to me and say 'wow nice dslr', its always about the lens ;)
Lenses are always more important than the body... A good body with a poor lens = crap photos, an inexpensive body with a great lens = great photographs. Of course you're better off having both a good body and a good lens, but I'd take a good lens over a good body any day.
Not what i meant, I was replying to someone who said he doesnt no what he was doing, "He doesnt know what hes doing? lol his lens cost asmuch as LIKE a car" Another words, if he didnt no what he was doing then he wouldnt have that gea.r
I would be afraid of rolling the kayak over so much and ruining the camera, I wouldn't even enjoy taking pictures in it! Great idea for someone who has more nerve than I do though.
That was pretty much my first thought too. We just completed another movie with Native, this time down on the Gulf of Mexico. My camera guy is fascinated with these boats. On the last day he decided to try it. He got in the kayak and I handed him a tricked out HD video camera . He proceeded to pedal around, paddle around, and shoot footage all the while. This in some pretty stiff chop, with a fair amount of salty spray too. Like JVDB says these boats are really solid. Try one you'll like it!
That was my first thought too. But he is comfortable with his setup and has been using it this way for a couple of years now. It's also one of those things where he does wildlife photography not camera protection. If he misses the shot because his camera is all wrapped up, then why is he even out there? But...I still get nervous watching him.
He's giving a seminar on wildlife photography in a few weeks at Canoecopia.

i would consider putting some staberlizers on that boat, sticking out of each side. :)

@tommybritain No need for stabilizers.... Check out reviews of the Native Watercraft Ultimate. Very stable and designed to stand up and fish in.

Surely a Kayak isn't a stable platform? A raft with a wide base must be better...

Also why is all this camo on your lens when your glass will reflect light and your face, shirt, plating on your tripod not camo?
jprodajko1 2 years ago
Well, if you painted your face it'd get on your camera.

Your lens is insured! It mat be a great kayak but your lens IS INSURED!

If I remember correctly it was a Canon body.
