  • Neither man nor woman, the singer embodies an idea, a thought, a transitory feeling that flits from things to thing, just as the people it possesses become restless and run from problem to problem.

  • I love this!

  • The 1st time I heard this song I knew right away that he was speaking from a woman's p.o.v. Can't belive that this had to be explained so many times. I did however think the song was made in the 60's. I love that old sound.

  • @imnotsold - why in the hell does it have to be established whether this song is about a man or woman's POV. It's 2011 folks. Who fucking cares?

  • @NotShyMarc It is cause I said it is Biiiiiiitch! And that's my point of view.

  • I recall this song from the movie quite well. But never heard it all until today. I blush in that I heard it on DFW's BIWHM. Awesome.

  • Love and hate are tattooed on his knuckles and my name is on his back. <3

  • it's just such an interesting song

    it tells a story

songs that tell stories are beautiful

  • Any man who is comfortable enough with their sexuality to write about men from a heterosexual woman's perspective should be fucking commended, not shunned.

  • Damn This is just Pure Genius and pretty sexy too :).

  • wow, he sounds like Jeff Buckley here. This is great.

  • I've been obsessed with Jonnie's tone in this song for months...

  • it does my heart good to hear that modern bands can still produce such moving songs like this.

  • i love playing the riff on guitar so amazing :D

  • I really love this song. I love the singers voice and am i the only one that thinks that at the end when he is singing nearly every man he sounds like robert plant. its weird.

  • i think the fact that its a guy singing is actually very erotic. [im a girl]

  • @RedFlowerDarkHair lol, word! :)

  • Cold War Kids bassist Matt Maust told Artist Direct the story of this song: "A lot of times when we are writing songs, (vocalist and lyricist) Nathan (Willett) just kind of spits out gibberish, and we record a lot of these demos and listen to them. Matt Aveiro, the drummer, said, 'Hey, did you just say 'everyman I fall for,'' and Nate's like, 'I don't know, but it's a great idea for a song,' so he wrote a song with the idea. It's from a woman's point of view in a bad relationship."

  • writing from a womens perspective? fuckin genius! not to sound like every douche on a bands song, but CWK are truely underrated. so many people know the songs but give No credit to masterpeices such as this

  • this song is so sick i can't get tire of it ever, you're beautiful lyrics COLD WAR KIDS amaze me every time!!!!!

  • singing it from a womens point of view listen to the song tardoooos

  • aarellanod2d! That's where I heard it, too!

  • hey, in the lyrics I've been looking at, people have: "it's the love/diminish and return" in the chorus, but I always hear: "it's the law of diminishing returns". Am I hearing this wrong?

  • @rocksette i definitely hear an 's' at the end of 'return', so maybe?

  • @extrantice "its the law of diminshing returns"...a stock trader term referring to the lessening of dividends (money) over a period of time. appropriate for this song. i think cwk is referring to feeling less love for someone as the relationship goes on.

  • @rocksette thats what i hear too.

  • Just heard this at the end of a DFWallace adaptation. Striking.

  • People who said this song indicates he is gay either don't listen to enough Cold War Kids or are morons. Pretty much every song they write is from the perspective of another person...haven't you noticed that?

  • @theglovesd yeah i did

  • it's written about a woman's perspective. They arent gay. Even if any of them were, it wouldn't matter, they are still great!

  • I saw them live not long ago. He explained it IS written from a womans perspective.

  • jason13th's comment was right on. :)

  • it is written from a women's perspective. i don't believe anyone in the band has ever publicly stated their sexual preferences although presumably they are heteorsexual. would it matter anyway if anyone in the band was gay?

  • it would matter to some people i think

  • i personally demand to know, it changes everything for me, I might have to switch colleges, maybe even changing my diet.

  • lol

  • @Jason13th well, it could matter for women, who would fall for them...:)

  • @Jason13th probably not. so why are you so determined to declare them all hetero?

  • @Jason13th i think it would matter a lot, artistically speaking. a song about your own romantic history is very different than a song telling a third party's story (from first person perspective). it would totally change the way i perceive the song. not negatively, necessarily, but it would certainly feel different. just sayin'

  • @Jason13th i know a chick who banged johnny russell, if it helps your argument

  • @Jason13th - You all- Grow Up...

  • Most of us say this makes him gay out of hope rather than fact lol. Don't get so cut up over it.

And seriously, no one I know suggested this was written from a woman's perspective. Its not that obvious. When a guy's singing "every man i fall for" the first thing you think is that he's gay.

  • could this song be any better?

  • it is pretty great already

  • yes, yes it is

  • When they performed live he said it was the song for the ladies. :3 He wrote it from a womans perspective.

  • i can't get over tis song.have been in love with this band for years.this is amazing

  • ONE of my favorites!! saw cwk in SD with Death Cab...twas the shit

  • he is singing about men from a woman's point of view

  • Nathan Willett is NOT GAY!!! the accusations are preposterous!

  • It's very rare for lyrics to reflect the singer...it's supposed to reflect a feeling or time...an event. Saying he's gay because of this song is like saying I'm a communist because I shared a piece of pie with a friend. I like pie.

  • THANK YOU!

people are like "dude no, hes so gay..listen to the lyrics."

    bastards.

  • beautiful song, love the lyrics!

  • I literally just saw them in concert a few days ago and the singer outright said it was written from a woman's perspective. They are not gay.

  • they really shouldn't need to say outright that it was written from a woman's perspective...most be to satisfy the morons of the crowd

  • i really like the band but i dont know a thing about them. is the singer gay?

  • You don't know a thing about them, and you're assuming he is gay. Why does it matter if he is? Anyways, I think this song was written from a woman's perspective

  • im not saying it matters im just asking since you know the song is called every man i fall for and he has a really high voice.

  • Gay people are supposed to have high voices.... ?

  • no the singer is not gay-- they did not wright these lyrics these lyrics have been around for ages they said.... grow up people

  • I have to admit, I just like the reference to black coffee in the first line. I agree with those who like the voice and the song's haunting quality.

  • I love the singers voice. He's so vulnerable

  • Seeing these guys in a few hours in Melbourne... Cant wait...

  • It's not about the lead singing about a guy. It's about a girl's view. That's what i think it's about and if I'm wrong, in the end it's still an amazing song. XP

  • I love this song!!!

  • ooooo there music gives me the chills ... the voice ! .. utter brilliance ..

  • i saw them last nite too!!

    they were awesome

  • I went see them in Baton Rouge last night... He said he wrote this about a friend of his.

  • oh really? cuz i dont remember that and i was at that concert i think. the xMas special? with death cab and shit?

  • if u wach the video thing that come with the cd he talks about this song in it but u have to by the cd in a store to git the video im pritty sher

  • it's about domestic violence

  • Apparantly or according to Wonko76 it's through the eyes of a female, and she's telling her story.

  • yeah the name of the song keeps fucking with my mide i cant deaside whats its about haha

  • I enjoy this song.. But I don't understand what it's about..?

  • it's about a woman who always pick the wrong guys....or that what i'm assuming from the lyrics.

  • so no homosexual reference? I am not against it, but I don't know the singers sexual preferernce??? This is just the first impression I would assume most people get from the title.

  • "It's a song written from a womans perspective. About what it was like to be living with my mom as a teenager and watching her be a single woman dating and my fears for her."

    cold war kids --daytrotter session

  • do u know if the daytrotter session is posted on youtube?

  • yes! it is soo beautiful!

  • beautiful song. i've herd it live twice [coachella and street scene]
