  • Pleasantly surprised to see a true marching band nowadays. A military style, 6 to 5. nicely excuted drills.

  • Gotta love invictus...I wonder how many times you hear that march at a marching contest?? O.o

  • I completely remember marching this in 2008. I remember during contest everyone looking at the countdown clock. Mr. Durham would cut it so close every year. It was sooo nerve-racking. All of us majorettes were whispering through our teeth "hurry up! march fasterrrr." I miss band so much.

  • ha invictus!! Hate that damn march

  • lufkin did this drill in 2005

  • Seems like Longview is still the same just different members in the ranks. A few mistakes but we've all done it in our time. Circus Bee is a difficult march in concert band much less trying to march to it. Not the crisp, clean Lobo band of the past but nice job overall. i still remeber at contest sitting and waiting to see what LHS would do for their drill. As a Daingerfiled High grad in '84, we still had respect for the military style and I still do today. Mr. Dean Watson/DHS made sure

  • I'm a proud Hallsville Bobcat band member but, I have always loved the Lobo Band.

  • Hmmmm... Misspelling "Sinfonians" was almost forgivable, but referring to "Invictus" as "that minor key march" absolutely KILLED your credibility as any sort of expert on how and where music should be placed in a drill.

  • Hmmmm...Usually Symphonians is played at the END of the drill...but anyway Kingwood played that same minor key march that same year actually at NAMMB

  • If you watch the whole drill, they play it at the end...

Longview always plays a fanfare to open the show.

  • I's funny to me how almost every band copies something from The Whitehouse Wildcat Band, they did the snake eyes a year before this and about 6 bands did it this year.

  • It's not like the snake eyes are an original idea thought up by Whitehouse. Every band director gets ideas for drills from other bands. Nothing in Military is original anymore, it's only expanded upon and rethought.

  • Of course nothing could compare to what John (Pete) Kunkel did for Longview, and I think the standards have lowered since Kunkel left Longview, but this band is still the best around, and I pray that it will remain the best around

  • I grew up in Texarkana and went to high school at Texas High. This band was our ONLY rival in district....the rest were pretty lame. Mr. Kunkel used to tell our director Mr. Ingram that the THS band was LHS's only rival as well. Always looked perfect. Even intimidating sitting in the stands!

  • Alright, Invictus was exelent, but what woried me was Rolling Tunder. on the the first part of the trio after the inroduction, it needs to feature the woodwind section, not the brass setion.

  • You guys are AWESOME!!! You do our band proud...even those of us from the 70's and 80's with Mr. Kunkel!!! I hope your new director will bring back a section of your drill with Under the Double Eagle and a few pin wheel turns!!!

  • lobo band of the seventies and early 80's were much better....

  • I agree. Not enough PRIDE here, but they did their best, and did a good job too.

  • i would have to disagree with you good sir/ma'am. with all due respect to all of those who came before me, but i believe that we have pride out of the calamaho. i graduated in 2009 and you may have forgot all the sweat that ended up on the field from practices in the evening, but i take it as a big big slap in the face to say that the current day LOBO band is missing pride. Due respect but i am sure Mr. Kunkle wasnt any more strict or less demanding than Harvey Durham or Louis Robinet.go 60yrs

  • and to "jpeanrkode's" comment that was removed. it also WASN'T against the law for Mr Kunkle to take his belt off and give you some welts. trust me Mr. Durham talked a lot about doing it. That's like saying "i bet Mr. Kunkle hasn't ever marched the 1983 Lobo band on Turf." it just cant happen and wont happen. Mr. Kunkle didn't have access to the turf in the day, and Mr. Durham doesn't have access to the leather belt today.

  • @PintechDrummer Im sorry I didn't mean to insult...I apoligize!! I know ya'll have pride and bless ya'll for it!! Too many bands today dont have it and just go through the motions, BUT Kunkel's bands were the best Longview has ever seen (in my opinion...just compare the videos here on youtube), but don't get me wrong, I still think the Big Green Marching Machine is the best around!!! God Bless :)

  • I've always loved how this band sounds. Of course, it's nothing like it was during the Kunkel years, but they're still incredible.

  • whats up with the missed turns?

  • As a former member of this i have to say that it takes some edurance to march with us. We marched in practice like that for fun. Baritones/Euphonium04-07.

  • Mr. Durham is retiring. This drill here will be his last. I'm anxious to see what Mr. Robbinett will bring to the table next year.

  • Oh I remember this:]

We all screamed when we found out that we made all 1's.

    We were soo estatic.

Can't wait to do it again for the 60th consecitive year in '09 [that rhymed]

    190members of pur Goodness.

    Thanks Mr.Durham.:))
